Not sure how it works as I've stoped raiding since two months back but when I raided usuing your SF right before the BL pops was the way to go on fights like ultra since it, to, will gain the effect and his more often and therefor give most (I say most, not all) of your mind spikes 3 orbs.
A Bloodlusted shadow fiend with Mind Quickening will get off 12 melee hits if I'm not mistaken (needs testing, long since I did this).
Yep, usual 11 hits and 14 with BL => 9 additional orbs

~25% additional damage in the main burst phase is great by itself.
That burst phase is earlier ready again is a good reason but not the only one.
Would've actually used my SF/AA during BL (w/o SF getting it) on purpose on Ultrax last week, just to show what a dps loss it is, but only 19 people showed up (including 3 getting the boost), so had to go with 2 10M raids. ;D Didn't even record WoL since parses wouldn't be comparable with usual 25M ones, 'cause of the lack of buffs. The raid I was assigned to didn't even have Bloodlust ;D Also, remind me to alt f4 next time someone invites me to a raid that doesn't have a warlock.
Was an enjoyable one tho. 10 internets for Nianif.
Let us have a closer look on the topic:
30.x% Haste and MS/MB cancelaura cast sequence
1.) Without BL - time between SF hits is 1.3 and casttime of Mind Spike is ~1.15:
MB, 6 MS, MB, 3 MS, MF, MB - 1 Mind Spike without orbs
2.) With BL time between SF hits is 1.04 and time between Mind Spike casts is 1.0:
MB, 7 MS, MB, 4 MS, MF, MB - all Mind Spikes with orbs
So we get three additional SF hits and cast 11 Mind Spikes with orbs instead of 8 with orbs and one without.
If SF is not affected by BL we cast 8 Mind spikes with orbs and three without.
The 0.9 MS caste time topic: You lose the same amount of time with each other single target spell (VT, DP, MB..) except MF. Anyway, if you were able to cast MS and MB in 0.9 sec you would be allowed to cast additional 1.4 MS without orbs => ~50 k damage
I did a small calc based on the damage numbers of my last Ultraxion kill (30.x% haste, 20.5 mastery, 30% crit) :
20.5 Mastery => 3 orbs means ~219% damage
Sequence without BL: 1298k damage (16.85 sec => 77k DpS)
Sequence with BL and SF get is affected: 1535k damage (16.5 sec => 93k DpS)
Sequence with BL but SF is not affected: 1370k damage (16.5 sec => 83k DpS)
So I do 20.8% additional damage with BL if SF is affected in case the same proccs are running but at the beginning (main burst phase on ultraxion if you delay BL a few sec) prepot and proccs like Power Torrent and Lightweave Embroidery are active.
The additional 16k DpS in the time of MS/MB burst should be more than BL damage win of the usual prio in this time.
Later this weak I will try to do some simcraft for each case to be on the safe side.
I have to start without DI, 5% spell crit debuff and 8% spell damage this evening :/

might be a silly question - but why cancel aura mind melt?
i just switched from holy MS to shadow MS due to raid roster changes so any help/comments regarding my gear/spec/glyphs would be appreciated
If you cast MB immediately after MS without the cancel aura mind melt => it's instant and has no chance to be affected by orbs.
You have also a high chance to waste orbs by 2 GCD until the next consum.
I prefere 35 mastery and movement speed on my boots.
3202 or 30.x% haste for 2nd extra tick of Vampiric Touch => both ways are ok
With Dark Intent => 2141
Without Dark Intent => 2589
Hit => 17%
Nanoprecise Cape (http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/item/77098) and Int/Mastery gems if you need mastery more than haste

Atm i do
MS, MS, MS, MB, VT, SW:P, DP, MF til MB off CD, MB
then continue MF til MB off CD, MB - whilst refreshing DoTs and using AA

If you stop casting MF and cast MB without cancel aura macro immediately after you get the orbs you don't waste the next orbs because time between SF hits > GCD. This also make sure that the next Mind Spikes are affected by orbs.
Other people prefere a pure MS/MB sequence.
If you post a log (World of Logs) of a fight (dummy or Ultraxion maybe) we could give you better feedback.
Do you use addons and macros which help you multidoting?
I really like the youtube shadow interface guide of touchymcfeel. Maybe it's also interesting for you.

I did setup Touchymcfeel's UI but I found it really difficult to use on the fights I have to heal

Hi guys, so I'm looking for some advice on my shadow performance. I have seen shadow priest on my server with equivalent gear+no staff doing 45k on h.ultra 10...so my performance in comparison feels rather terrible. I think with my gear I can do more than what I'm doing right now...maybe 40k-ish? But that's not the case...I'm stuck at 34k on a good day. So any tip is welcomed. I am the raid leader of my group so I call out ppl's names to take Hour of Twilight etc. But I don't think that's too distracting to the point that hinders my performance. So I think it's related to my dps technique. We pop hero at start and I do my 4pc arch-fiend-spike-blast rotation. I don't use mind spike after that, and at 25% health I wave in double SW: D. I'm also a soaker for HoT, so I disperse twice in the fight.
I get DI for this fight most of times. Although sometimes our lock trolls me and give it to the mage lol.

To your char:
* 2141 Haste with DI (reforge to mastery) or 3202 -> 2141 is better for Ultraxion, 3202 for multidoting fights
* Lavawalker on boots
To the logs:
* use Archangel in a MS or MB macro
* delay Time Warp until your Dark Evangelism stacks are up and SF is active (~4 sec)
* precast Fade & MS
* Shadow Word: Death only four times (~10 possible <25% health) => maybe an addon would help you
* 27 MB (32 possibe)
* use burst sequence - 3 times in 4:10 should be no problem
* use Volcanic Power short time before you start your last burst sequence
* dot Uptime should be better (Shadow Word: Pain 91.4 % but Vampiric Touch only 82.8 %)
.. Refresh Vampiric Touch short time before it ends - you recast a few sec after it ends
* Dark Intent uptime only 81.4%
* delay Insigina proc by reequip before pull (105 sec before to would be good but ~1 min will work too) - Velocity ICD is 120 sec - only 2 procs anyway
* Improved Devouring Plague only 9 times => you don't refresh at the start and before end of a proc => maybe an addon would help you
* Devouring Plague spam (move to get orbs) is also good with Velocity => benefits more than MF
* use a Dispersion cancel aura macro
* you lose also too much time by Heroc Will (4-5 sec)
* Cast an instant like Devouring Plague before you use your Extra Action Button macro in the following GCD
