In the Wrath of the Lich King board game, players control one of Azeroth’s heroes and fight their way through the Scourge to reach the throne of fallen Prince Arthas, now feared throughout Azeroth as the terrifying Lich King. Adventure across the frozen continent of Northrend, take on quests, battle monstrous entities, and more to retake Azeroth from the Lich King.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King - A Pandemic System Board Game includes:

  • The Pandemic system with familiar mechanics and gameplay, now tweaked to embrace the World of Warcraft universe.
  • An extra-large game board featuring forts, temples, battlegrounds and iconic locations native to Azeroth.
  • Legendary World of Warcraft characters with detailed and sculpted plastic figures, including Thrall, the Warchief of the Horde; Varian Wrynn, King of Stormwind; and Sylvanas Windrunner, Banshee Queen of the Forsaken.
  • Quests, a brand-new mechanic to Pandemic that sees players adventuring across Northrend to battle monstrous entities, destroy evil relics, and more.
  • Hero Cards that give players an edge against their enemies in the form of equipment for more attack power during combat, special mounts that allow players to move more spaces on their turn, healing potions to restore hit points, and much more.

It is a Wrath of the Lich King themed version of a popular board game. A novel based on the original game is even in the works.

this honestly sounds fun and i'd seriously consider getting it for when my friends have a board game night. but with blizzard dropping the ball on quality, customer service, pr, and basically everything else, i don't think i can justify throwing money at this. i can't trust this will be quality at all. i miss the days when i didn't need to wait for reviews or do research ahead of time to justify a purchase from blizzard...

Does anyone at Blizzard have any concept of marketing? This is just horribly insensitive considering people are still dying by the hundreds from COVID. What in gods name are they thinking?

What? The Pandemic game has been around since 2009. It has a few expansions and spin offs. There is nothing to be offended over unless you are trying to manufacture hate and outrage because of the word Pandemic with no understanding of the context. The Blizzard version is not a game about a pandemic but using the Pandemic board game system of play with WotLK layered over top.

Even gathering to play with others is a non issue. You could still play virtual though it would take a dedicated "Game Master" to move control the stuff for everyone else playing.

i'm all for criticizing blizzard when it's deserved. but this likely isn't. the game itself is called pandemic and has existed for about a decade. in terms of cross brand deals like this, it takes years of talks and work to make it a real thing, let alone legal since it would otherwise infringe on the rights of the respectful owners. it's likely this has been planned since before the pandemic was even a thought in the US.

While I've been saying for several years that I wished they'd make WoW miniatures, this isn't exactly what I had in mind.
