    Earth? Where do YOU live?
No, she was inspired by mythology and they designed her to look how she did.

Since D2R is based on D2, then she should look the same. Instead, they made her look like she's been injecting test for 20 years.

Since it's not faithful to the source material, it can get fucked

Though that could be my untrained eye, I suppose.

The key here is that there is a clear change, regardless of the reason. You can like or dislike the change, and agree or disagree with the reasons - but I don't think it's hard to understand why some people don't want any change at all given that it's a remaster that's been put forward as faithful to the original.

Edit: Also, a female character being attractive and/or beautiful is not necessarily sexualized. They could have reduced some of her exaggerated features without completely changing how her face looks.
Even Medusa, who was supposed to be ugly as sin according to the mythology, was turned beautiful for engravings and statues. So using that as an example isn't really valid, to be blunt. As I said, in written mythology the only thing said about Amazons regarding physicality is their strong bodies and impressive height.

The old Amazon model looked like a barbie doll. If that was ported over into a remaster, it would look ridiculous.

Look like she's been injecting testosterone for 20 years? Just because she has muscle and looks aged? Lmao wow. Well you better start learning to get over it because the model isn't changing because some dude on mmo-champion wanted to make incredibly sexist remarks.

Glad I'm not the only one and that I'm not just letting nostalgia guide my views. It definitely feels like the vibe is different. I rewatched the original cinematic just for good measure and while its graphics have undeniably aged and it is in some ways stiff, there was just a vibe there that was more.. telling? Intimidating?

It also feels like that smug laughter is less prominent, which is something I absolutely loved. Being able to hear him laugh while the ominous music rises and you watch his hordes invade was something that really stuck with me.

So why should D2R be the one to break not only the previous representation in D2, but also the representation in mythology depictions in general? Why is the written mythology more relevant than the depictions, especially when said depictions don't really contradict what's written?

If the only thing said about Amazons' appearance is that they're strong and tall, then it's not very logical nor relevant to suggest that they are respecting the written mythology when the topic is how her face looks, is it?

Both D2 and D2R could fit the written descriptions, with the difference being that if anything D2 is closer to classical mythological depictions of Amazons in art. And, of course, the fact that the Myhtology is irrelevant to start with because D2R needs to be faithful to D2 and D2 alone.

Why would it look ridiculous? Are you saying feminine women with soft facial features and big boobs can't be strong and tall?

There's a difference between 'looking aged' and making her look extremely masculine.

But, since that's what they've gone with, I'll keep my money and pass

the more i see of d2 the more i'm getting over my desire to buy it, and that desire wasn't that high to begin with.

i don't really get it. people who love the gameplay and still play to this day will buy it no matter what. but the bulk of people who just want a nostalgia trip run into tons of big and small changes that just doesn't help. if you just want to remaster, just remaster. if you want to re-imagine do a proper remake.

"Incredibly sexist" Give me a break. The most sexist thing in this thread you saying the ressurected willem dafoe amazon looks like an average white woman in her 40s

Diablo 2 is a grim dark setting. The men looked grizzled but somehow the women looked untouched by the harsh world?

If that's true then it would already be true when D2 released, it wouldn't suddenly become ridiculous now. Being in a dark setting/world doesn't really affect how masculine or feminine your face looks, either, or how big women's boobs are.

But neither of the original characters appear particularly more visually "touched by the harsh world" than the others to me, other than in a few conceptual art pieces maybe. They all look like capable fighters representing a power fantasy of each of their respective classes. The new amazon doesn't really look more "touched by the harsh world" either, just looks like an entirely different person.

Hard disagree considering that FF-X came out the same year and the cinematics look far better. The LoD cinematic isn't even amazing by the standards of its day.
