Gearing in Patch 9.2 Eternity's End

Class armor sets are making their return in Eternity’s End, and this time, you’ll obtain them from three sources: bosses in the new Sepulcher of the First Ones raid, the Great Vault (via all activities – raiding, Mythic+, and PvP), and from the forthcoming Creation Catalyst. In Eternity’s End, you’ll also discover a new Runecarving power that lets you harness the effects of your covenant Runecarving power in conjunction with an existing Shadowlands legendary to slay your foes or heal your allies.

Progenitor Armor Set

The Progenitor armor set will grant your character new abilities based on your specialization, and includes a helm, shoulders, chest, gauntlets, and leggings with 2 set bonuses. The first set bonus is unlocked when two set pieces are equipped, and the second bonus is unlocked when four set pieces are equipped. Here are some examples:

  • Hunter (Beast Mastery)
    • 2-piece – Your Kill Command critical strike chance is increased for each stack of Frenzy your pet has.
    • 4-piece – Kill Command critical hits increase the damage and cooldown reduction of your next Cobra Shot.
  • Paladin (Protection)
    • 2-piece – Casting Shield of the Righteous grants you a stacking increase to your Block chance.
    • 4-piece – Blocking an attack has a chance to cast Judgment at your attacker.
  • Druid (Restoration)
    • 2-piece – Swiftmend heals an additional amount for each periodic healing effect on the target.
    • 4-piece – Swiftmend heals nearby allies for a percentage of its healing done.

Legendaries

You’ll meet the Enlightened Brokers in Zereth Mortis and become allies with them to be able to obtain a new Legendary belt empowered with your covenant’s Runecarving Effect. The unique characteristic of this new Legendary belt is that your Runecarving Effect will switch freely alongside your character whenever swapping covenants. There’s no need to craft a new Legendary Belt for each covenant. The Legendary belt will match the look of your class’s Progenitor armor set and can be equipped alongside another Shadowlands Legendary in a different armor slot, giving you two powerful legendary effects to boost your power. If you’d like to craft the new covenant-swapping Runecarving Effect on a different armor slot, a new Runecarving Memory will let you do so.

  • Note: In order to equip two legendary items, one must be either the Legendary belt or another armor slot imbued with the new Runecarving Memory.

All legendaries can now be upgraded with Cosmic Flux, a new currency inspired by lessons learned from Echoes of Ny’alotha in Battle for Azeroth. Cosmic Flux will be rewarded from a variety of activities in Shadowlands Season 3, such as defeating raid bosses, PvP, Mythic+, Torghast, Tower of the Damned, and World Quests.

Creation Catalyst

Once players fully uncover the secrets of the First Ones, the Creation Catalyst will become available. This will serve to help anyone who’s having bad luck on a particular armor slot, or to help alts quickly catch up later in the patch. The Creation Catalyst will use Cosmic Flux in combination with an appropriate non-set armor piece to create a Progenitor armor piece in that armor slot of the same item level. The armor you transform can be obtained from PvP, Mythic+, or other new Eternity’s End content.

For example: The Great Vault rewards an ilvl 265 non-set chest piece. Once the Creation Catalyst is unlocked and enough Cosmic Flux has been collected, this can be used to make an ilvl 265 Progenitor armor piece that activates the set bonus.

  • Note: If you earn a non-set armor piece before the Creation Catalyst is unlocked, we recommend hanging on to it in case you want to convert it later.

We’ll see you in Zereth Mortis!

I kind of wish they just went with valor but I guess if we needed a grind system echoes of ny'alotha isn't the worst.

Well at least you don't need to craft a second legendary. They dodged that bullet.

Honestly the design doesn’t sound as horrible as many previous systems, the catalyst acting as bad luck protection does fix an issue.

The problem is fairly basic, they now can’t deliver a new gearing system without a 500 word explanation because they make everything so complicated.

well then. Very disappointed. Tier sets were the only thing that piqued my interest. And flat damage % is uninspired after going years without tier sets.

they are pretty half and half,cd reduction to cobra shot isnt just a simple flat damage increase btw

but seriously, its kinda reasonable to have atleast some simple stuff considering this expansion had a bunch of legenderies and covenant abilities

in the past when tier sets were the only ''system'' it was easier to justify having them do crazy stuff, but it wasnt always the case, many tiers in the past had only % increases

Because just making it a simple raid tier set like how it was forever now enrages the playerbase how it isn’t fair that their WQ/mythic+/PvP gear/pet battle gear is inferior and now they are forced to raid mythic and buy CE to have a chance at gearing to farm old Cata raids for mounts.

Well, that belt idea isn't bad at all. Wonder what the other slots will be.

These tier sets remind me of the uldir non-sets when they first took tier away, super generic and boring to look at.

It's a shame they have to make 4 recolors of every set so they can't even have more than one primary and one secondary color.

    Super bland, super disappointing

    Actiblizz does it again!

Sorry to break the negativity here but I think the sets look amazing (finally some non-ornamented non-embroidery flat metal looking pieces). I also think the tier set acquiring system is great, you can get it from all activities. The set bonuses are right on point, simpler flat stuff for 2 set, minor playstyle changing stuff for 4 set. The lego belt changing with covenant is brilliant, you can even craft that in another spot so if you are lucky with a big belt drop you aren't screwed.

This patch looks excellent so far.

Are they seriously gonna call this tier sets? What a fucking JOKE.

Those are, at best, those basic PvP crafting sets you can get at the start of a xpac. They ALL look the same. BC Classic is live, they can literally walk around shattrath right now and see what tier sets are all about.

They're supposed to be cool, different. I'll never be able to tell the difference between a mage and a warlock wearing these things. I guarantee you that everyone will just tmog their sets.

Biggest news is, that you are not forced to raid to get Tier-Sets, that's a relief for all M+ and PvP players.

Disagree hard with you! This changes everything when you combine it with the different ledgendaries and conduits/coventant abilities. But the increased crit chance maybe its better to aim for effectiv Aspect of the wild CD = 1 min, so that it lines up with with Kyrian abilitie. Maybe Flamewakers build works better with the increased cobra sting. So many things to try and test, which might change the playstyle given the different scenarios.

So...are they going down the angle that Azeroth is now a first one and not a Titan? What else can the planet become? Next expansion Azeroth will also be a progenitor of the Void Lords and an Applebee's in one.

Tier Sets look so very generic. More like a dungeon/catch up gear set, not a "last tier of an expension" set.
