Patch 9.2 Eternity's End PTR - Cypher Progression System Preview
Today we are having an early look at the Cypher of the First Ones Progression System from Patch 9.2 Eternity's End PTR.

The currency used to unlock perks is Cyphers of the First Ones: Echoes of the power used to forge reality itself.



Metrial Understanding

Being able to fully read a Lore Concordance will grant a bonus to all players that are near it.

EchialPocopoc can be asked to seek out and mark Echoed Jiro on your mini-map when one is nearby.

Dealic Understanding will allow Pocopoc to interact with Echoed Jiro, granting you increased movement speed, improved resources when gathering, or reduce enemy detection range.

CachialYou can interact with the Caches of Creation puzzles. Pocopoc can also seek out and mark nearby Caches.

Decrypting Caches of Creation can award you Cyphers of the First Ones.
455 minutes
CorialPocopoc may now to seek out and mark nearby Coreless Automa.

In addition unlocking Dealic Understanding will allow Pocopoc to temporarily take control of wildlife to assist you in combat.

VisialAllows visual customization of Pocopoc at the Core Configuration Console in Exile's Hollow.1308 hours

    This system looks more like something they should have kept for a brand new expansion. It both feel interesting and new, and super disconnected from the rest of what we did in Shadowlands so far. The whole patch looks like the setting of a new expansion to be honest...

    Wasn't that the opposite of the feedback they received? Do not put player power behind convoluted and time gated systems? Or associate new features with player power? - see Torghast

    It’s all about exclusivity. Alternative methods to get player power are more than welcomed, if you are not FORCED to do them because of specific powers tied with those systems only.

    It’s not players fault if this game is ALL about player power and nothing else.

    Oh it has nothing to do with fun, all WoW design first and foremost is "How many days can this last?" (In this case, 63) long before "Will players find this fun?". That's the key distinction in modern WoW. They used to work out how to make something fun enough to bring people back for 40 days, now they work out how to make a checkbox system last 40 days then think of some mechanics to tie to it after the fact. They probably knew this system would last 63 days before they even knew what it was called or what exactly it would do.

    Blizzard has a learning disability of epic proportions. When you distill and poll the complaints and concerns of WOW players, it comes down to two specific things: parasitic systems and gated content. And, the two aforementioned concerns fall under the umbrella of a time synch business model. Blizzard is unquestionably designing WOW based on a time synch business model and not based on what is fun and they do so under the guise of progression. This is nothing new. Blizzard has been doing this since WOD when they introduced mission tables at launch then doubled down in 6.2 with mission tables on the sea. They talk about how all of these interconnected systems (covenants, soul binds, conduits, legos, set bonuses) leverage dmg into the stratosphere and then decide it's a GREAT idea to introduce a new one in the next patch. A logical person with a brain can only possibly conclude one of two things here. 1) the Blizzard Devs are completely incompetent and off the rails with regard to the core of WOW. 2) the Blizzard Devs are hampered by Activision or maybe the brass at Blizzard or perhaps even both to commit game design to parasitic systems. Doesn't matter what the answer is - they both suck for the player base and the longevity of the game.

    If you don't believe me or disagree - simply look at the sub #'s as well as the general consensus of the sentiment of WOW's game design and overall direction. My argument and on-going concern does not float if either of the aforementioned beam in a positive light.

    show me where flying is unlocked in this list of things. please. i would love to see the flying in this list of unlocks.
    cause if you actually did your research yo uwould know they never said flying/legendary would be locked behind the cipher, just that you would unlock them, and we now know they very likely come from completing the story campaign NOT the cipher.
