Frost Mage 9.2 Tuning - Icy Propulsion ICD Change Reverted

After further consideration, we will be reverting the Icy Propulsion ICD change, and we will instead further reduce the damage of Frozen Orb and Blizzard.

Our goal with the initial change to the internal cooldown was to help curb some of the power that it has gained over the expansion from other bonuses and changes such as: the uncapping of Frozen Orb, the upcoming tier set bonus, and iLvl increase of the conduit itself. However, we recognize that the Icy Veins uptime it has provided as the expansion progressed is something that Frost Mages have grown accustomed to, and losing that power in Eternity’s End would end up feeling like a regression in both performance and enjoyment of how the spec plays.

These updates will be coming to the PTR shortly and our development notes will be updated to reflect the changes.

One of those situations where the 1% are doing pulls specifically designed for frost mage where they shine, a couple warlocks see this on a stream and cry so blizzard nerfs it despite the other 99% never being in this scenario or coming close to these numbers.

This reversal had nothing to do with the 1%ers. The change to Icy Propulsion would have made Frost feel worse to play at all levels of play, from +2s to +30s; from the LFR to RWF Mythic Jailer progression. The backlash against this change had nothing to do with numbers and everything to do with how it made the spec feel.

First change killed ST damage as well. 2nd nerfs AoE. So a good change.

Trust me fee monthd before they announce the Microsoft merger we stayed weeks not having news
Atleast now every now and then we get some updates although they srill didn't give us what we want in terms of quality of life changes

Nerf had a terrible philosophy behind it that would have killed ST and the spec would be dead. Anyone who argues for this type of approach is delusional. They had to revert it.

Spec is made strong in specific situations through borrowed powers. Instead of addressing borrowed powers they nerf the core spec.

    It's kind of ok.
Frost will still have good AoE - it's just very tank defendant. If your tank decides that he wants to pull shards in HoA with ONE other mob on forty week - well, might as well have invited a single target DPS.

Nerf it to the ground! NERF EVERYTHING! Keep pushing people away from this game. Hopefully microsoft will save this disaster of a company in a couple of years.

I get a feeling we're gonna be super weak compared to other expansions last patch. I want things to go overboard

Exactly. Such a sh...show. And then at the end of SL, the borrowed powers will go away and the spec will be completely destroyed.

Haha my mage friend told me this would happen because "they have to revert it or else mages will be bad" which kinda makes sense but is not how blizzard operates with any other class or spec. They just destroy stuff and move on. The mage community must have the devs wrapped around their fingers.

    Simplistic nerfing =/= balancing

That is the core of the Blizz problem. People get upset because when their favorite spec finally gets a leg up but has an issue, Blizz just rolls it back instead of actually doing something to fix it.

Imagine a doctor puts a bandaid on a wound, the wound doesn't heal, and the doctor tries a salve that causes a different problem. Rather than trying another treatment, the doctor just puts the old bandaid back on the wound and says "Nothing can be done I guess". That is the insanely bad mentality Blizz keeps bringing to this game.

No, in this case simplistic nerfing is the easiest way to achieve overall balancing, except your argument is more about how blizzard handles borrowed powers.

Frost mages scale way too good thanks to stuff like this conduit and the legendary, there was no doubt in my mind they'd have to bring their numbers somehow down every patch so they don't just run away with their scaling, the way they want to do it now is simply preferable because simplistic numbers nerf to frozen orb and blizzard won't affect your gameplay while suddenly not having icy veins at the same mob group and boss timings while the patch prior you did would just feel weird af.

Wait so let me get this straight.
We are getting nerfed instantly with patch release,
because the borrowed systems (2nd legy and 4 piece tierset) are making us 2 strong, which will come like 8 weeks into the patch?
So patch drops and my aoe is doing prob. 10% less dmg because I will get 4piece and 2nd legy some time later - nice blizz...
