Coming Later This Year: Shadowlands Season 4

Later this year, after the current season has run for a typical duration, we’re planning to conclude Season 3 and begin Shadowlands Season 4, a fresh take on what a season of WoW might include.

In Shadowlands Season 4, your PvP efforts will reward you with a new higher tier of PvP gear along with other Season rewards, such as mounts and titles. We’re planning for the highest ranking title to be Eternal Gladiator, a fitting capstone for your Shadowlands PvP accomplishments.

We’re excited to announce that we’re going to shake things up in Mythic+ and raiding in Season 4. We’d like to change up the Mythic+ dungeon pool so that it would include 8 dungeons that span the last four expansions of WoW:

  • Tazavesh: Streets of Wonder
  • Tazavesh: So’leah’s Gambit
  • Operation Mechagon: Junkyard
  • Operation Mechagon: Workshop
  • Return to Karazhan: Lower
  • Return to Karazhan: Upper
  • And two dungeons from Warlords of Draenor

To that end, we’ve started a community poll where you’ll help us decide which two Draenor dungeons are included in the Season 4 Mythic+ rotation. You can click here to vote to select two dungeons from among: Auchindoun, Bloodmaul Slag Mines, Everbloom, Grimrail Depot, Shadowmoon Burial Grounds, Skyreach, and Upper Blackrock Spire.

For Season 4 raiding, we’re imagining adding a progenitor-themed affix system to infuse some new mechanical twists into Castle Nathria, Sanctum of Domination, and Sepulcher of the First Ones. Our intention here would be to make all three raids relevant in Season 4, with increased difficulty and more powerful levels of raid loot dropping throughout all of them.

Feel free to reply here and let us know what you think of these experiments, and we’ll have more details on all of this for you soon. Also, please vote for your preferred Warlords of Draenor dungeons.

Thank you!

As an addendum:
There will be no Hall of Fame for Season 4. We’re not looking to position this as a competitive event.

    Good design.
Not very clever are you? Why would they exclude players when the entire purpose of this event is to draw players in?

I don't like where this is going. When an xpac ends, I clean up all the weak auras and other garbage I made along the way to help in there in raids and especially dungeons. But more importantly, I delete them from my head, because there's limited space there. I don't want to remember the exquisite details of return to Karazhan for a decade. Hell, I'm lucky timewalking is usually pretty easy, because to be honest, romping through MoP dungeons is an exercise in repressed memories. I got Tazavesh because I accidentally queued for a random heroic instead of TW and for a long time I was like, I really don't remember this place at all, but I guess I'll go with it.

This is fine for a random heroic or TW but for a M+? Forget that. I got enough problems with the existing dungeons, thanks. Start of Xpac is always the most stressful time for me as I have to learn multiple dungeons and a raid and usually new skills or talents or whatever godawful system they added... But it's offset because it's often fun, new stuff and backed by some semblance of a story, or at least the promise of one.

I don't hate recycled content, I used to get a lot of enjoyment out of farming stuff solo and collecting transmogs etc, but if it's also extremely challenging where you need to study it (or worse, "required" content to fill out gear/vault), combined with the often toxic cesspool that M+ pugging can be, no thanks. Maybe I'm just old and forgetful. I can accept that too. But this also sounds like a move towards less content and more recycling and for a subscription-based game there's really no excuse to cheap out like that. Just my .02.

I like this idea. Makes previous content not so obsolete.

I missed out on raiding Nathria, so this is good! I'll get a chance to raid it competitively after all.

lmfao they're literally calling it seasons, dude. They're literally calling things seasons and with how much they've been losing subs, I can absolutely see them introducing paid seasons in a desperate attempt to make money. And if the Microsoft deal goes through after the FTC investigation? It's guaranteed to happen. Just look at what MS did with Halo Infinite.

How much more are you going to double down on showing that you haven't paid attention to WoW in years lol

PvP has always used the terms seasons.

PvE has been using it since the start of BfA.

Like, you're going down the weirdest direction with this, but i mean a lot of complaints do seem to come from players who are so far out of the loop that they don't know what's actually going on.

I just wanted to reply to you that I have this problem too. An example for me was when Legion timewalking came, and in that dungeon where near the end you need to find the demon in disguise (I forget the name, it's 4 am and brain no work). I play a DH and my group were waiting for me to use spectral sight to find the traitor or whatever, and I just stood there like a donkey until someone whispered me asking me to do it. I'd completely forgotten everything about that dungeon, and the thought of having to relearn all that stuff gives me anxiety. That said I can live with getting anxiety from it.

But at the same time, there is so much good content just sitting there not being used, all in all I still think it's good they're going to re-use it.

Maybe both of you should play games less taxing on the mind and more firm in the ruleset. Like Checkers.

How much more are you going to purposely not read what I'm saying? Again, I'm saying that PAID seasons are going to introduced. Read it very fucking slowly this time.

    They're not

You have no reason to say that.
There's absolutely no logic to saying it

It's about as useful as me saying Blizzard is going to convert to being a fast food joint.

THAT is the point. What you're saying has no logic behind it beyond again, adding to the negativity that's already rampant. I'm reading what you're saying, you're missing that I'm saying it's useless to post

I wasn't aware you work for Blizzard and can say with 100% certainty that I'm wrong.

Nice false equivalence with that fast food comment.

ActiBlizz is getting bought up by Microsoft. MS has added paid seasons to A LOT of their games. You're clearly NOT reading what I'm saying or you're just trying to be contrary for the sake of being contrary. And the "rampant negativity" isn't just random hate. It's 100% justified since the last two expansions have been total garbage. I can absolutely see Blizzard trying to invoke FOMO with paid season passes to try and draw people back into the game. Just because you're not willing to say anything negative about Blizzard doesn't mean anyone criticizing Blizzard/WoW is just throwing a random negativity.

I asked you for one piece of evidence to prove your point.

You instead started going at me about how I must not know what season passes are, and berated me. You're in no spot to tell someone else that someone else they can't speak with 100% confidence. And there is no false equivalence, you have absolutely nothing to stand on for what you're claiming. It's just irrational hate. You can spew whatever you'd like to justify it, but it's just rambling at the end of the day that has no reasoning and you keep falling back to personal jabs instead.

WoW has had seasons for a long time now. There's absolutely nothing about this to make one think "oh, season pass!". And the weird idea that Microsoft is going to add a season pass on them is even weirder when almost every game that has one on the Xbox isn't even made by Microsoft themselves, like Halo or Call of Duty Warzone. They're also, off the top of my head, overwhelmingly free to play games.

But there's no point in discussing this when you fail to even understand how it's so weird to try to claim they'll sell season passes and then instead of being able to give something that shows that in game, you keep giving weird insults and nothing to prove your point, so I'm just stopping on that.

Again, just because you are utterly unwilling to say anything negative about WoW doesn't mean what I'm saying is irrational hatred. Halo's publisher is Xbox Game Studios which is part of Microsoft's gaming division.

So maybe you really should stop because it is clear you are not educated on this topic. Made learn what a season pass is in other games and how games under Microsoft got them when they didn't need them.

That would be the case with or without season 4. All these years the last patch before new xpac has been a long wait. Atleast this time something "new" happens that players can do.

Usually it would be doing the same raid/dungeon for 12+ months. Now its that + something more.

    So its an improvement.

The irony, I legit feel bad for you trying to use logic on this clown.

I love how they pulled the classic doomer line. "You don't work for blizzard therefore you don't know".

All while pulling bullshit out of their ass with zero critical thinking and zero logic while working themselves up into some "blizzurd bad" mental clusterfuck. The insecurities are hilarious.

If you are going to use MS as your “evil corp” bs, at least use an example of an MMORPG they ready own. MS owns ESO. ESO doesn’t have “paid seasons”.

I disagree. What I like about raids, compared to keys, is that once the tier is done, the raid is done. I don’t have to go back. I think it’s the wrong direction introducing affixes to raids and if this is the new norm for the next expansion, it might be the reason why I quit.

Yeah, I get that. Its a fair point. I think this might be an effort from Blizzards part to make "old" raids relevant again in a xpac. For years for every patch, the old raid is 100% useless except from meta-achivs. Maybe this is a sign of Blizzard making all raids in a xpac relevant in some way from 10.0? When a new raid is live, the old one stays relevant with affixes or whatever. Now i'll say this - the idea is good, but making everything harder might not be the solution to this.

My major confusion that always comes from situations like this is that usually it falls back to comments like "well you're just a white knight/won't say anything bad about blizzard!!!".

Which is always easily proven false but it's like if you dare to toe against all negativity, suddenly you're worse than satan
