Coming Later This Year: Shadowlands Season 4

Now that Season 3 is well underway and players are pursuing all of the seasonal aspects of Mythic+ and competitive PvP, we’d like you to join us in considering what might come afterward. Later this year, after the current season has run for a typical duration, we’re planning to conclude Season 3 and begin Shadowlands Season 4, a fresh take on what a season of WoW might include.

In Shadowlands Season 4, your PvP efforts will reward you with a new higher tier of PvP gear along with other Season rewards, such as mounts and titles. We’re planning for the highest ranking title to be Eternal Gladiator, a fitting capstone for your Shadowlands PvP accomplishments.

We’re excited to announce that we’re going to shake things up in Mythic+ and raiding in Season 4. We’d like to change up the Mythic+ dungeon pool so that it would include 8 dungeons that span the last four expansions of WoW:

  • Tazavesh: Streets of Wonder
  • Tazavesh: So’leah’s Gambit
  • Operation Mechagon: Junkyard
  • Operation Mechagon: Workshop
  • Return to Karazhan: Lower
  • Return to Karazhan: Upper
  • And two dungeons from Warlords of Draenor

To that end, we’ve started a community poll where you’ll help us decide which two Draenor dungeons are included in the Season 4 Mythic+ rotation. You can click here to vote to select two dungeons from among: Auchindoun, Bloodmaul Slag Mines, Everbloom, Grimrail Depot, Shadowmoon Burial Grounds, Skyreach, and Upper Blackrock Spire.

For Season 4 raiding, we’re imagining adding a progenitor-themed affix system to infuse some new mechanical twists into Castle Nathria, Sanctum of Domination, and Sepulcher of the First Ones. Our intention here would be to make all three raids relevant in Season 4, with increased difficulty and more powerful levels of raid loot dropping throughout all of them.

Feel free to reply here and let us know what you think of these experiments, and we’ll have more details on all of this for you soon. Also, please vote for your preferred Warlords of Draenor dungeons.

Thank you!

As an addendum:
There will be no Hall of Fame for Season 4. We’re not looking to position this as a competitive event.

Only person excited by this change is Henry Winkler.

P.S. those sound like the worst mythic + changes ever. And, I don't even raid but that seasonal raiding sounds epically bad as well.

    this seems interesting
...although it also pretty much kills all hope for expansion in 1Q2023

No? This is PVP seasons. We've had them for ages. Since January 2007.

Well I'm a fool huh? Reread next time, me.

Blizzard added that there will be no hall of fame for season 4.
Gets me to wonder if this is just a ”patch to have fun playing until exp comes out” so there is less downtime doing nothing.
Im sure season 4 will be shorter while main even for next chapter is going on

It sounds great. The alternative is being stuck doing nothing/farming SotFO for 6 months while they get the next expansion out.

I feel it’s better than the normal alternative which is farming the same content for 9-12 months at the end of an expansion.

As always? Haven’t they only done something similar with ONY and arguably Naxx in wrath?

so this basically confirms an actual, entire tier was cut.

Indeed. At least they're planning stuff for people to do while waiting, which has been a major issue in many previous expansions. I like the idea too.

What the hell are you talking about? You'll literally be farming the same content.

And this confirms that the next expansion will come around this time next year.

This is an early arrived April 1 joke, right? I hope this is not true.

Yes it's clearly just me, no one else is negative about this.

I actually really like the implications of this. This obviously all but confirms 10.0 will be a long ways off, but even given that, this means they'll potentially make old content actually viable again outside of cosmetics down the road. A rotation of content is definitely baby steps, but baby steps in the right direction, IMO. That said, recycled content shouldn't be accepted as a substitute for new content, but if they can do both at once, the game will be better off for it. I can't imagine re-purposing older stuff to be terribly intensive on development time.
