Burning Crusade Classic Character Clone Service is Retiring Soon

The service will be on sale until its retirement, and you'll be able to get a Character Clone for up to 66% off to keep those characters active on both Burning Crusade Classic and WoW Classic Era realms.

For a refresher on how Character Clones work and which characters are eligible to use this service, refer to our Playing Ahead: Making Choices in WoW Classic blog post.

What is the Character Clone Service?

The Character Clone service allows you to activate a copy of one of your WoW Classic characters, restored from a point in time just before the Burning Crusade Classic pre-launch update on May 18, 2021, on either a Burning Crusade Classic realm or a WoW Classic era realm.

To clone your character, simply log in to Burning Crusade Classic or WoW Classic—wherever you would like your cloned character to become available. Any characters that are eligible for the Character Clone service on the character select screen will have an appropriate icon. Some restrictions do apply; you can read about them in our support article.

When is the Service Being Retired?

The Character Clone service will be permanently retired on July 26, 2022. After that date, any locked clones will be removed from their respective realms and will no longer be available.

What Happens if I Don’t Make a Choice?

If you haven’t made a choice for any of your characters since the last time you logged in to either WoW Classic or Burning Crusade Classic, those characters will be moved to Burning Crusade Classic. The Classic Era version of the character will be permanently deleted and unavailable for cloning.

Thank you!

WoW Classic, Burning Crusade Classic, and Wrath of the Lich King Classic wouldn’t exist without your unwavering support. We hope you’ll continue to relive Azeroth as it was and create new memories. Thank you for playing, and we’ll see you In Azeroth.

Completely agree, dumbest move ever by Blizzard to make this a paid feature.

They should have just let everybody fucking clone a character for free and have their character on each iteration of the game unless their plan is to have a consecutive move up to retail eventually.

Seeing as they're forcing all BC servers into WotLK, it's probably why the clone service is being removed.

I would like to update you all on the state of Classic Era.
There are currently two active US Server Clusters. Whitemane for PVP and Mankrik for PVE. Both of which are free server transfer destinations.

Whitemane currently has 5 active 40 man raiding guilds. 2 on Alliance and 3 on Horde
There are several pvp discords. Battle grounds are cross region with AV queues popping on AV weekends.

Pug dungeons can be found at all times and pug raids can be found at peak hours.

GDKPs are rare on alliance, but occur once or twice a month. Horde have weekly GDKPs

    Alliance guilds:
    Phase 7

    Pasta Sauce

    Horde guilds:
    Forever Classic
    Rampage
    Not Prepared

Gold buying and bots are completely non-existent. Account purchases still exist, but have greatly diminished as the market for this service is entirely on TBC and SoM.

As frustrating as the $5 fee is, don’t miss your chance to make your clone. Even if its just for your level 60 trophy case. Classic ERA is alive and growing, and free of the worst qualities of classic. Come be a part.

Unless World of Warcraft comes to gamepass I'm probably not gonna come back to it anyway or if there is a huge reduction in monthly fee. With every major service on the rise people have to make hard choices, luckily with how they have been treating the game and IP they made the deacision for me and many many others. I just hope once under the MS banner they add it to gamepass.

The cost is your prohibiting factor? The game charging no money from the top down would change how you felt?

I always said they should have kept each game completely separate. And I'm more confident that would have been the best thing for Blizz to do. But then of course they couldn't sell character clones, and boosts. And that's all they really care about.

But even with servers progressing, Blizz has to make at least 1 fresh server per expansion. New players don't stand a chance otherwise.

Where does it state we won't have a clone option for BC to Wrath? It's just stating the clone option from Vanilla to BC is going away.

To me this sounds like they're closing down the Vanilla cloning, to make way for BC cloning.

Their greed had no limits. I’m glad they are waking up. It’s not that cost is a factor for me not to play, it’s these kinds of unethical, greedy practices that make me want to never touch blizz games.

They said that in the announcement, that the TBC servers will progress to LK without any server having a TBC copy.
Given that the classic era servers have a whooping population of 50 or less, I can see why they're doing that.

The cloning service discount is just disgusting. At first glance I thought, ah nice I'll clone my t3 char for 5 euros, then thought about it .. why the fuck would I pay any kind of money for something that even if I wanted to use, I'll be pretty much alone lol.

Another example of how this companies greed, kills games.

With GPU prices in the 1000-2000€, with gaming wattage in the 400-600W + monitor(s) and everything else, I am not sure if PC gaming is something you should keep as a hobby if the WOW subscription is a major deciding factor in your gaming budget.

The WoW subscription is not even adjusted for the inflation yet.

It’s not about the 15 dollars being “too much”,
It’s about not wanting to support these cash grabbing greedy practices. Warmane WoTLK is super popular at the moment with endless queues at zero dollars. Even if they shut it down; a thousand warmanes will be launched.

They know classic realms are completely dead yet they want people to pay for discounted clones they will never ever touch anyway because nobody plays on these realms anymore. Everyone is disgusted by blizzard. People are back to pservers.

Not really now that they've coordinated their servers and playtimes, also the mass server merge helped. I mean people think in order to be alive it needs to have millions of players which is just not true. A successful MMO before WoW's time didn't even have a million players. I think EQ hit 500k in it's peak. People act like Classic Era might as well be dead and I couldn't disagree more. We always knew it was going to be a niche community left over. The whole point was to undo the mistake of not just having a Legacy character option to begin with in 2007 and ever expansion thereafter. Kind of odd that you could make a pre-expansion character in Diablo 2 in 2001 but not with WoW in 2007.

Now the boneheads at Blizzard are making the same mistake again with BC. Granted SoM does kind of split the community further, but if they did SoM correctly (no transfers from Phase 6 servers to screw it up and way more than 40% experience which they did increase to 100%) then it would have been fine. But again, we always knew these would be smaller niche communities, the people who missed out, or got sick or didn't have time for Classic in 2019/2020 and really wanted to play, the speed running community which is actually larger than most speed running communities. 5-10k is fine for a niche community. And Blizzard should be smart enough to leave every version of Classic up, eventually they'd be farming about a million players, assuming the Classic experiment went all through the expansions. The entire thing should have been built into Retail anyways, just go through a time portal and boom you're in Classic mode with all gold/inventory separate, all completion data and stats/skills/talents the way they were then.
