Blizzard has provided a breakdown of the Idol of Y'Shaarj spell, a new Shadow Priest talent coming in Dragonflight.

Idol of Y’Shaarj will receive a new tooltip as we get closer to Dragonflight. In the meantime though, here’s a breakdown of what it currently does:

If your target is…

Above 80% health? → Pride
  • You and your Shadowfiend deal increased damage while Shadowfiend is active.

Enraged? → Anger
  • Purges the enraged effect and increases your Haste while Shadowfiend is active.

Stunned? → Despair
  • You generate Insanity while Shadowfiend is active.

Feared? → Fear
  • You and your Shadowfiend deal increased damage and do not break fear effects while Shadowfiend is active.

No conditions met? → Violence
  • Duration of Shadowfiend is increased.

The priority order is:
Anger/Despair/Fear → Pride → Violence

As with everything in the talent tree, these effects are subject to change. I hope this clears up some confusion. We’ll continue monitoring the community’s feedback and we look forward to sharing more Dragonflight details in the future!

While this talent will certainly produce a lot of headaches, there's one singular talent in the tree that makes 0 sense:

Surrender to madness is still there! How come they dont understand that it's the single most unplayed/unwanted shadow talent since it's inception in legion (with the exception of EN because it was just way too strong back then)? Noone picks it now, why would anybody pick it in DF?

    Overcilomplicated how?
99% raid encounters - Pride and Violence
    M+ raging - Enraged utility
M+ trash - Despair if dps gain
    PvP - Fear

Play Arms. More fun, no Enrage needed.

I stand corrected. "Right before" Shadowlands launched.

Blizzard adds a talent that will help Spriest with some utility (something they were lacking when needing to bring in outside of bursting) and people are bashing on them!

If this is the type of talents that we can expect from bliz where they will add utility for less dps it will see some classes possibly be able to help if your guilds team comp needs a dis-enrager etc (Probably wont solve meta comps as unfortuantly people will still watch MDI etc and go off guides)

But i think this is extremely positive for the player who has a group of friends they play with and not being forced into dps or tanks etc that they may not enjoy if there is this level of flexibility in the tree's I only see positive outcomes!

Why would someone who enjoys min maxing , complain about a talent being complicated? Or is it someone who wants to min max but not play ? because that person would also not have any demerit from the talent

The complaints about the left side of the talent tree aren't being too complicated. They're about Sanguine teachings being one of the worst talents showcased so far and then being required in order to get to a really good capstone talent choice.

Idol of N'zoth and Idol of Y'shaarj are really cool and potentially really good. The problem is Sanguine teachings, which is simply awful there isn't anything complicated about it.

Just look at the changelog and how often it was modified and tuned. And in the end it still was barely used overall.
The problem with fae guardian wasn't that it was overloaded, it was the application of the buffs and the fact they generally did fuck all. The application process of this idol is way easier to manage and the buffs they apply are way better.

This talent is more comparable to IQD over fae guardian with both its application and buffs.

How do you know it is a bad idea? After all, you ahve not used it yet. Also, you not liking something does not make it a bad idea.

who cares about min maxing . lets see if shadow priests will be as unplayable as it is in SL. it can have the most interesting talents in world but if it will do such bad dmg like it is doing atm forcing peopel to play holy if they want to play at all what does it matter what talents it will have

Enough people care about min maxing to where people feel the need to constantly complain other people min maxing.
