Dragonflight Zone Preview: The Waking Shores

The dragonflights left their homeland and the Waking Shores remained dormant for ten thousand years. Now, with Azeroth's world-soul revitalized, the awesome primal might of the Shores stirs anew, rousing the dragons' ancient allies and age-old enemies from their long millennia of slumber.

Heroes of the Alliance and Horde are invited by Alexstrasza to aid the red dragonflight in this vibrant and menacing land.

This land is stirring with the reawakening of elemental energies. Long ago, the elements were present in their most primal, unfettered form; however, the resurgence of magic in the Dragon Isles has caused that energy to reawaken.

Geysers and hot springs are commonplace, and powerful streams and rivers carve grottoes into the colorful rocks and sediment. Waterways feed into the land's heart and the Life Pools of the red dragonflight.

While millennia ago this area was populated with dragon architecture like the rest of the Broodlands, most of those structures have long since fallen into decay and become overgrown.

Volcanic areas are alive with molten earth and fire. As the elevation rises, the land becomes harsher. In these imposing mountains, Neltharus, the Obsidian Citadel was built by the black dragonflight so that the Earth-Warder could defend the Broodlands. Abandoned long ago, the imposing fortress has now been claimed by the djaradin.

Inhabitants of the Waking Shores

Elemental magic manifests everywhere, with earth, air, water, and fire taking physical form. New types of elemental beings are rising, as well as animalistic creatures infused with this magic. Here are some that you will happen upon in your travels:

The Waking Shores are just the beginning of your adventures throughout the Dragon Isles. Help your allies push back against enemies, new and old, who are bent on controlling this ancient place of elemental power.

I know that Blizz has introduced a lot of tech (phasing etc) to try and avoid server crashes and lag fests in expansion starting zones (and on high pop servers in general) but another approach they could use, which would also be more engaging, is to have expansion class chain quests become the intro to new expansions spending the population out and enhancing class identity in the process....it would take more work..oh wait...nvm

this is so boring to get all the information about a new xpac months before release

i wish after so many years they would finally stop doing open alphas/betas. There is ZERO excitement when the Game releases and you know exactly whats comig

how did i not came up with this brilliant idea ???

you missed the Point. Other Games manage to release without spoiling everything. There will be People already playing Dragonflight or any other Expansion for 6-12Months before its even out. And why ? because Blizzard is unable to deliver a Product without Fear of Failure so they test the shit out of it

Speak for yourself, I'm still super excited. These sneak peaks just whet my appetite.

That said, I don't play in the Alpha's and only put my toes into the Beta's when I get access so I'm not spoiled on everything before the expansion officially launches.

They all just look generic, I'm hoping for a WoW 2.0 some day.

    That was essentially Cataclysm.

You're not likely to see a WoW 2 ever. Sequels to MMOs were always a risky move, and that was back when the MMO genre was white hot. It is also really difficult to capture lightning in a bottle twice. Look at Everquest. EQ2 released and split things enough that a certain usurper known as World of Warcraft was able to take the throne from the then-king of MMOs.

Also Everquest 1 is still going strong anyway.

This sounds very similar to how class quests for artifact weapons worked in Legion. And because of all that work spent on Legion (a highly rated expansion), something else had to suffer (WoD was cut really short).

Due to the bandwidth it takes to understand complex issues, a lot of people in the gaming community wouldn't understand this, but resources are not infinite. I work for a company larger than Activision Blizzard, and my team is larger than the WoW dev team, but there is still only so much we can take on at any given point. You really can't just throw resources at it.

Looks like Sholazar Basin with dragons tbh. It's nothing new or amazing imo but It's an aesthetic that I like so ultimately I'm personally okay with it.

the rug was pulled out from WoD for a variety of reasons but the example you use actually makes my point - putting a lot of work and resources into an expansion increases the likelihood that it will be positively received.

There is a dedicated "quest" design team at Blizzard...asking them to create the same number of overall quests (or a few extra possibly) and creating a more dynamic, slightly less linear questing experience based on class is not orders of magnitude more difficult, time consuming or a resource hog...its just really requires more thought.

There is literally a thread on these very forums about how Dragonflight is the most boring expansion yet because we haven't been given any information. And now they give us more information, and you're bored about that.

I get so tired of this nonsense.
