AUCTION HOUSE UPDATE: REGION-WIDE COMMODITIES

  • Auction Houses across all realms on a given region will now share commodity listings (gems, herbs, flasks, consumables, etc.). Items that aren't commodities–like armor and weapons–will continue to be realm-specific.

THE AUCTION HOUSE JOINS THE WOW COMPANION APP

  • Players can now do the following from the WoW Companion App:
    • Browse and view current auctions
    • Bid and buyout auctions
    • Search for auctions
    • Add and remove items from your Favorites list
    • View and cancel your listed auctions
    • Developers' note: We are very pleased to be able to bring the Auction House back as a part of the WoW Companion App. The new app update provides a way for players to make purchases, view listings, and more. Due to our desire to provide an Auction House experience in a more immediate timeframe we have excluded listing items for sale. While we understand selling items is a much-loved part of the past feature from the previous Remote Auction House, we wanted to provide access to many of the features regularly used by players as quickly as we could with an eye on potential additions to the app in the future. We intend to make improvements as we evaluate player usage, risk, and the developmental load in implementing tech frameworks to support future updates. Learn more about this update on our latest post.

USER INTERFACE AND ACCESSIBILITY

  • A new chat channel for searching or advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities has been added: Trade (Services).
    • Developers' note: The trade channel that’s been in the game for 18 years will continue to exist, but we wanted to add a new channel to direct messages about the request and advertisement of services like raiding, dungeons, or PvP activities. If you’re looking to buy or sell these kind of services, this is the channel for you! If you’re not interested in those, you can leave the channel and avoid the noise, or move it into its own chat tab. We believe that with this new distinction, you’ll be able to keep Trade chat for the traditional buying and selling of items and professions, and not other chatter.

Who wants to bet despite this new chat channel it will rarely be used and people will still use trade chat because they know everyone will see it.

If they do, I do hope that A. Players are report-happy, and B. Blizzard actually enforces the call against advertising in Trade proper.

Either way, this is a step in the right direction, though.

Yes report people using trade to trade services. If that’s the case I should be able to report anyone in trade talking about all the dumb crap they do. Anal jokes should be a one month silence

Yeah, it's definitely a step in the right direction. I just have zero hope it'll work out as intentional. I remember when they added the LFG back and people are still using Trade chat until this day for that stuff.

I remember at one point, and I could be misremembering, that they said selling services in trade chat is actionable by reports. But yeah the anal spam and a few other things could be removed too and I wouldn't be upset. On my dead server you might see someone chat here and there, but on the bigger more popular realms good luck trying to find someone selling something in it and seeing it.

I could. It was impossible to remove boosting just like it was impossible to remove gold selling. But placing a vent and moving people there is another story. Similar how twitch dealt with hot tub streams that plagued "just chatting" category.

Fair enough. Plus, with all the QoL improvements, there isn't a whole lot that trade's usable for at this point in terms of on-topic stuff. The DF crafting overhaul might chew into that even further.

Right Click > Report > Advertising > "Not using the proper channel"

Granted, most people will probably just get a small bonk for it, its still something at least

Nice, so glad you made boosting the only way to make gold now while pretending you don't like it.

Commodities market 1000000000000000000% dead for anyone except bots, sad state of affairs, professions being made completely worthless is pretty sad.

Now people will just spam both channels…

I'm not going to be that doom and gloom about it, but it's definitely going to make direct mat sales under a certain load less desirable. Specific older stuff will be easier to get, but the overall price will rise or drop depending on what your specific server/s are used to seeing. Specific stuff like Blood of the Mountain and Arcane Crystals. Most folks aren't going to be greatly effected by this, farmers aside. I find it a tad annoying mostly cause you'll accumulate a lot of mats passively just playing the game and dumping all that on the auction house every week or two is a quick easy way to make some side gold. That's going to be less worth doing if the price is being dictated by every player in the entire region.

Are those 'market control' streamers still around? Used to see them on youtube, guys who were going through and trying to manipulate all AH prices on each server.

Next please get rid of ads in the dungeon tool itself. Ads get put up wednesday after realm start and stay there for 7 days no matter how often you report them. ONE fucking guy with a ban hammer would be all that's needed to get rid of them but Blizzard doesn't seem to care.

So yea, I take it non-consumables were left out so they could collect the $$ from tokens are they scour the AH on all the realms for the prefect gemmed/procced BoE gear.

Making non-consumables work across all realms would make them way more money actually. It doesn't matter if that BoE you want is on another realm, you can't buy it and mail it to yourself. Unless you are really so fucked in the head that you make a character on that realm, buy a token(s), buy said item, and then pay to transfer the character with that item to your realm. In which case, yeah, you might have some serious fucking issues and thankfully few people are that fucking stupid.

It likely won't have too much of an impact on advertising because accounts getting banned is considered a cost of doing business for most of these boosting services. But it will help you narrow down legitimate realm-centric services, should that be something you're interested in... something which previously would be drowned out by the aforementioned boosting spam. So it's still a net-positive, imo.

This is already against the rules; my guess is that a lot of these are posted with compromised legit accounts which could have some collateral "y u ban me Blizz" type damage should Blizzard swing the banhammer too hard.
