Maximum Interview with Ion Hazzikostas
Liquid's Maximum is interviewing Ion Hazzikostas about Dragonflight.

  • Season 4 Success
    • The team is super happy with how Season 4 has turned out. There was some kinks to work out, but they have been addressed and they now see this as something that can happen towards the end of every expansion.
    • Having a way to address bad RNG is something the team wants to keep in some way going forward.
    • They are not necessarily keeping the same vendor system that they have used in Season 4 as purchasing a BIS item from a vendor when you haven't killed the boss yet on week 3 would diminish the value.
  • Raiding and Social Updates
    • There is some social value in keeping Mythic lockouts as it encourages people to stick with a team instead of bailing right when something goes wrong.
    • The team wants to make more and more things cross-server. They are moving in the direction of having Mythic raids potentially being cross-realm enabled earlier, but not on day one.
    • Cross-server guilds are potentially on the table.
    • Cross-faction guilds is something the team wants to do before the end of Dragonflight, but there is tricky coding involved that they have to solve.
    • The team is looking to solve faction changes nuking your raid lockout.
  • Class Buffs
    • "Bring the player not the class" was too extreme. The team wants there to be reasons to seek out a class for a raid, but they also don't want their raid buffs to be too powerful that you feel you need them to succeed.
    • Evoker will bring Bloodlust in Dragonflight.
    • The team is looking to give a battle resurrection to another class in Dragonflight.
    • The Team might pull back on some buffs that they have introduced in the Alpha.
    • The team doesn't want to design encounters that absolutely require certain utility (such as Death Grip), but they also want to add more unique utility to classes that might make encounters a little easier.
  • Mythic Plus
    • Season 2 will have the other 4 dungeons and 4 other dungeons from prior expansions.
    • The team would like to cycle through all dungeons over the course of an expansion.
    • One of the problems faced by Heroic and Normal guilds right now is the repeatability of Mythic + loot that in on par with those difficulties.
    • The team wants to make gear between Mythic Plus, Raiding, and PvP more unique from one another.
  • Dragonriding
    • The team wants to preserve the importance of all mounts collected up until Dragonflight.
    • Dragonriding has been well-received and the team wants to look into how to take that forward after the expansion.
  • Talent Trees
    • Druid and priests - they hear you and will have an update on your talent trees soon.
    • The team would like all feedback to be equal, but life happens and there are certain situations that may hold back communication.
    • The team recognizes that at least communicating that they are listening even if they have nothing to update is something that they can do better.
    • Testing the talent trees in raids and content is what is ahead of the team in the Alpha. They will listen, respond, and iterate on the trees based on feedback and testing.
  • Raid Release
    • Ion wants to know how the community feels about releasing all difficulties of raids on the same day instead of having Mythic launch a week later.

Please stop giving Bloodlust out to other classes. DPS shaman already have it bad enough with trying to get slots since Mages and Hunters can soak mechanics with an immunity.

Why not instead, give them a gateway alternative? Call it SLIPSTREAM and tie it into their soar mechanic, that they create a powerful channel of wind that launches allies to a target location.

We don't need another class with bloodlust...

I would farm out more utility as well

Give Brewmasters Chain Hook so they have a grip type ability
Give Paladins Battle Rez, but call it Divine Intervention
Instead of giving Evokers Bloodlust, give them a GATEWAY clone and flavor it as channeling a wind tunnel that launches allies to a target location (they already soar around).

Whats the problem with evokers having hero? In fact, they are arguably the most deserving thematically given their powers of the bronze dragonflight.

But at the end of the day, Lust is the most powerful raid buff in the game. It makes sense it is available to as many classes as possible so it is readily available to more comps.

Just need to get Mystic touch and Chaos Brand on at least 1 more class each now and things will be looking good.

"The team, the team, the team" is so tiring considering we know all the decisions about game direction aren't made by them at all, and they just do what they're told.

Speaking about being dishonest while casually assuming I'm whining.. thats adorable.

What word would you use when a constant stream of feedback is being ignored other than the word ignoring? Do tell.

I've always been a tank all the way up to Legion. Having a predetermined path I have to take and not being to set the pace completely removed the fun in tanking.

You don't even ignore what the word means.

I use the word DISAGREE. They DISAGREE with the feedback. Using the word ignore means they aren't listening to it AT ALL. They absolute are listening to it. They simply DISAGREE with it.

Thanks, I liked the invasions in Legion so this is a nice thing to bring back. I hope they keep adding more stuff to do outside of instanced areas. It's one of the things I miss the most about classic.

Which is the same as ignoring it

Hows that going for them? No need to answer the sub numbers talk for themselves don't they.

Why just paladins? Give it to all classes.

How the fuck is a warrior supposed to res you? Is he gonna punch you to life?

    CPR 50 Rage
    Melee
Punch an Ally back to life can be used in battle

No it is not. They listened to, and read, the feedback. They disagreed with it. Ignoring it means they never listened to it nor did they read it in the first place. Stop misusing the word.

Also, how can the sub numbers talk when nobody but Blizzard knows what they are?

"Cry of the Valarjar: Strengthen the resolve of a nearly defeated ally, bringing them back into the fight"

It's not really difficult to create fluff to do whatever you want lol, like how in other MMOs you don't "die," you are defeated and miraculously saved at the last moment! You literally fire healing bullets in swtor

But the real issue is that BRez and Lust are group resources with specific group mechanics (cooldowns, charges). It feels really bad when you can't spend them in a 5 man. I think they should be a separate form of utility than the normal stuff like dispels or grip or w/e.

I always thought they released it a week later to have real live data for tuning mythic.

In fact, the game would likely be much better if there were a singular vision driving it. At least the design would have a point of view. "The team" makes perfect sense since it's frequently true that classes don't always play with each other well, expansions are rarely more than the sum of their parts, and the entire thing is so risk averse and loaded with compromises that it could only be designed by a committee. The game plays like it was designed by a bunch of engineers and severely lacks any kind of creative vision. That reads like "team" to me.

Out of curiosity, how on earth would Blizzard ever legitimately be able to say whether they hear or acknowledge all of the feedback provided in this game? Would you prefer if every design choice they ever consider were put up for a vote? We got Grimrail fuckin' Depot the last time we did that, I'd rather not.

So, why cross-realm is in "social" section, when it supposed to be in "antisocial"?
