Maximum Interview with Ion Hazzikostas
Liquid's Maximum is interviewing Ion Hazzikostas about Dragonflight.

  • Season 4 Success
    • The team is super happy with how Season 4 has turned out. There was some kinks to work out, but they have been addressed and they now see this as something that can happen towards the end of every expansion.
    • Having a way to address bad RNG is something the team wants to keep in some way going forward.
    • They are not necessarily keeping the same vendor system that they have used in Season 4 as purchasing a BIS item from a vendor when you haven't killed the boss yet on week 3 would diminish the value.
  • Raiding and Social Updates
    • There is some social value in keeping Mythic lockouts as it encourages people to stick with a team instead of bailing right when something goes wrong.
    • The team wants to make more and more things cross-server. They are moving in the direction of having Mythic raids potentially being cross-realm enabled earlier, but not on day one.
    • Cross-server guilds are potentially on the table.
    • Cross-faction guilds is something the team wants to do before the end of Dragonflight, but there is tricky coding involved that they have to solve.
    • The team is looking to solve faction changes nuking your raid lockout.
  • Class Buffs
    • "Bring the player not the class" was too extreme. The team wants there to be reasons to seek out a class for a raid, but they also don't want their raid buffs to be too powerful that you feel you need them to succeed.
    • Evoker will bring Bloodlust in Dragonflight.
    • The team is looking to give a battle resurrection to another class in Dragonflight.
    • The Team might pull back on some buffs that they have introduced in the Alpha.
    • The team doesn't want to design encounters that absolutely require certain utility (such as Death Grip), but they also want to add more unique utility to classes that might make encounters a little easier.
  • Mythic Plus
    • Season 2 will have the other 4 dungeons and 4 other dungeons from prior expansions.
    • The team would like to cycle through all dungeons over the course of an expansion.
    • One of the problems faced by Heroic and Normal guilds right now is the repeatability of Mythic + loot that in on par with those difficulties.
    • The team wants to make gear between Mythic Plus, Raiding, and PvP more unique from one another.
  • Dragonriding
    • The team wants to preserve the importance of all mounts collected up until Dragonflight.
    • Dragonriding has been well-received and the team wants to look into how to take that forward after the expansion.
  • Talent Trees
    • Druid and priests - they hear you and will have an update on your talent trees soon.
    • The team would like all feedback to be equal, but life happens and there are certain situations that may hold back communication.
    • The team recognizes that at least communicating that they are listening even if they have nothing to update is something that they can do better.
    • Testing the talent trees in raids and content is what is ahead of the team in the Alpha. They will listen, respond, and iterate on the trees based on feedback and testing.
  • Raid Release
    • Ion wants to know how the community feels about releasing all difficulties of raids on the same day instead of having Mythic launch a week later.

Why not just stick a rez and lust button on an extra action bar that is on a timer for X amount of time and/or resets on wipes, for raids / dungeons.

PVP can stay the way it currently is.

    Problem solved.

Cus we should preserve ANY God damn wow fantasy in game?

We're already getting tauren rogues... lol...

Because neither Rogues nor (DPS) Warriors have trouble getting spots in groups.

Easy. Fuse the dragonriding framework to every flying-capable mount.

Yes. Make my wolfhawk even more impressive. He is already a fantastic fantasy mount. This would just be the icing on the cake.

Have you seen the lore? You are complaining about the color or your drapes while your house is on fire.

Well recieved by who exactly...? The people who can see it's just a more tedious form of flying or the people who were excited that covenants would bring " meaningful rpg choices" ?

Honestly I think most players just dont care about dragon flying in general while some are interested in mount visual customization .

Still trying to squeeze server transfers out of raiders... just allow mythic corss realm it's better for the game.

Please, pretty please, give me this.

Paladins having combat res makes the most sense out of any classes that don't currently have it.

I think every class should bottomline either bring CR or Lust for party/raid utility. Sure the ones missing them have other strengths but so does every class with either one of these... Best just level the playing field so there's atleast some positive left whenever you find your class eating shit in the meta.

No problem with all raid difficulties opening up on the same day as long as that really means all rather than the usual lengthy and staggered opening of lfr-wings.

Non-healers having a resurrection spell outside of combat should be considered a ribbon ability at best, and not counted against them as "utility". Outside of the rare situations where the healer dies in a M+ trash pack (since every healer can rez, if any other role dies there is no issue), it's only other use is helping the occasional player revive in the overworld without needing to run back to their corpse.

You forgot Warrior and Mage buff.

Max community/viewership is probably the most fitting one to ask this question, I don't think you need the opinion of lfr/family and friends guilds on that.

If I could ask Ion one question, I'd ask why they decided to give Ret Paladin Long Arm of the Law again, just to cocktease us and remove it less than two weeks later.

He talks about removing ordinal flying again. Don't make rushed conclusions. Players WILL want their ordinal flying back. Because it's not about speed or cool stunts. It's about bypassing terrible ground content design and being able to play game normally, instead of suffering from it.

I really don't think another class needs bloodlust. Evoker has way too much utility and power creep.

Not in this interview but in previous ones and there's some stuff happening on alpha. Apart from m+, raid and PVP you have professions and through workorders you can get up to 5 mythic quality items.

Instead of reputation and a vendor, each new faction will have a renown track. You do your world quests and gain rep that gets added to your renown bar and you'll unlock a new renown level with its reward every couple days.

In addition there will be invasions similar to BFA and Legion. You kill mobs in the invasion and get a currency (unlimited grindable), which you can use to buy a set that is on par with LFR/m0 and the zone that gets invaded will have special world quests that reward a different currency (limited to a certain amount per day) with which you can buy a set on par with normal raid gear.

So if you don't want to raid, do pvp or m+ and don't want to farm, level or buy profession gear, you do world quests for renown and do invasions. Grind them the first few days or weeks to get your LFR/m0 set and cap the other currency. With numbers from the alpha it'll take around 8-10 weeks to get the full epic set.

Set HC ilvl on par with 15s (also in weekly cache). Remove normal and hc weekly lockouts. Set Mythic ilvl higher but scales down to m+/hc cap in m+ so people pushing or just doing m+ are not forced into mythic raids.

    Done.

Yeah they never do, hows that going for them? Game is more popular than ever, sub numbers are through the roof right? Oh wait its the opposite because they literally chased most of the subs away by focussing on people like Max and his community.

    Great choice.

Fact he's even talking about cross-faction guilds and things is because they ruined the faction balance with this shit thinking too.

If we are going to go back on bring the player not the class, we should at least go closer to the Wrath philosophy of buffs being shared by multiple specs or classes and not being unique to a single spec.
