You’ll be able to experience this new feature soon on the PTR.

Shop at the Trader’s Corner

A new set of traders will be moving their wares into the capital cities of Stormwind and Orgrimmar—T&W (Tawny and Wilder) and Zen’shiri Trading Posts. You’ll find T&W just outside of the Mage District in Stormwind and the Zen’shiri Trading Post next to Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar. Our trader friends have pulled out all the stops and have set up their shop so you can view the new items of the month prominently on display right at their shop. They’ll have transmogs on mannequins, pets at their feet, and mounts secured in their stable. Speak to the traders to see this month’s wares.

A Home for Creative Cosmetics

There are a multitude of interesting transmog, pet, and mount possibilities in Azeroth, limited only by imagination. The Trading Post will serve as a home for many more items from across Azeroth— and beyond—and is not limited by the current game content. You can expect to see a variety of fun new items to add to your collection.

Opening the possibilities allows for a wide variety of different goods to be brought to the Trading Post and players can expect the unexpected in each month’s new catalogue!

How It Works

To obtain these unique cosmetic items, you will need to acquire a new account-wide currency called “Trader’s Tender.” This can be earned in two ways:

  • Automatically each month: Just by logging in and heading to the Trading Post, you can collect 500 Trader’s Tender every month from a chest called the Collector’s Cache.
  • By completing monthly activities in the Traveler’s Log: A monthly set of activities provides the opportunity to earn up to 500 additional Trader’s Tender.

We’ll be iterating on this new feature as we test on the PTR. The final Trader’s Tender amounts are subject to change.

Get Tender Every Month

At the first of each month, players with an active account in good standing will receive a set amount of Trader’s Tender automatically. If you don’t have active game time on your account or aren’t a subscriber at the start of a new month, don’t worry. Your Tender will be awarded the first day of the month when you do have game time or an active subscription. This will be the same amount for everyone, regardless of how you pay for your game time.

The Traveler’s Log

The second way to earn Trader’s Tender is to complete monthly activities listed in the new Traveler’s Log. Each month features a rotating, themed set of activities. There’s only a set amount of Tender you can earn each month through completing activities, so you won’t need to complete all the ones in the log each month. You’ll be able to pick and choose from a variety of fun in-game activities to easily earn Tender. Players can choose to earn by continuing to play the game as they already do such as completing quests, competing in battlegrounds, taking part in holiday activities, and even running Mythic+ dungeons. But you can also choose to take part in activities uniquely designed for the month.

You’ll be able to view these activities and your progress in the Adventure Guide (Shift-J) in the new Traveler’s Log. A bar at the top of the User Interface (UI) will show your progress in earning Trader’s Tender each. At certain thresholds, Trader’s Tender will be deposited into your Collector’s Cache for pickup. Additional Trader’s Tender is also obtained by filling the bar, but that’s not all…

Monthly Rotation

On the first of the month, the traders will obtain new items and update the activities in the Traveler’s Log for the new month. Items that are rotated out of their inventory won’t be gone for good though—they’ll rotate back into the inventory in future months—giving players who missed them the first time another opportunity to add them to their collections. The Trading Post will also include cosmetics from promotions that are no longer available as well as items normally available for cash purchase on the in-game store as purchasable items with Trader’s Tender instead. This provides an alternative way for players to obtain these items.

Getting a Glimpse of the Future

This is just the start of what we hope will be a rewarding new system for players to further personalize their character and their experiences within World of Warcraft. We’ll be looking toward additional opportunities to provide the community with even more ways to add to their collections and express themselves everywhere they go in Azeroth.

Keep an eye on the upcoming PTR where you’ll get a chance to try the new feature for yourself. We look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to develop this new feature.

This is like the moogle event from FF14 and is a neat idea.

I think you can sum up most initial thoughts on this as " looks good but trust issues from a decade of cash grabs"

As someone watching from the sidelines, I just hope it brings back shit like the Spectral Tiger, Black Qiraji War Tank, Plagued/Black Proto Drake, Pandaren Phoenixes, etc.

The absolute meltdown would be amazing.

This reminds me a lot of FFXI's login points where you can use them to buy mounts and trusts and even HNM pop items. I approve.

Looks like Fortnite Store more closely than anything else, with rotations every month.

I wasn't having a great day, so I came here to laugh at all the hating idiots complaining about Blizzard introducing a feature to give people cosmetic rewards for having fun in the way they choose to play. Thank you for being so sad and miserable, it does make the rest of us feel better.

Seems like a really good implementation of a battle pass style system; no extra cost, tasks are basically achievements, only light FOMO as rewards will cycle back into the rotation. And it's a way for players to earn shop items without having to buy tokens or spend cash.

Sort of cross between a battle pass, veterans rewards, and FFXIV's Moogle Treasure Trove events, which are used to encourage players to keep playing in content lulls as a way to get guaranteed rare mounts and time-limited cosmetics. Though those are only awarded by running old dungeons ad nauseum.

Obviously it's there to drive player engagement and encourage subscriptions, as well as to lightly guide player behavior, but it's not really any different from any of the other earnable rewards or seasonal content that you need to grind, so it... well, fits into the existing gameplay model just fine.

I think so long as they don't add extra monetization to it, and make sure that there are enough tasks that you can pick and choose what you want to do and still have plenty of time to finish the rewards track, it'll be just fine.

I have the Spectral Tiger mount. I won it for free. Didn't cost me a cent. I still hope it never shows up in this system so that it maintains its rarity. Not everything should be obtainable by everyone. Not quite the post you were looking for, but hope it's close enough.

Oh, would you look at that. Training wheels for a WoW battle pass system. This makes me feel even better about not buying DF. I knew they would start doing something like this and called it in my feedback for ending my subscription.

Just give it some time. They will do exactly what they did in hearthstone and start charging money for the currency to use in the trading post.

I am so disappointed in what activision has been turning blizzard into. All these awesome games turned into a glorified mobile game played on a pc so they can drain your pockets with mediocre rewards in a battlepass.

Battle tank is forever safe as long as Ion is at the upper levels of Blizzard, Scarab Lords even got a second one a few years ago.

Fine, the entitled "I overpaid for it or got lucky so no one should have it!" crowd.
Honestly i could expand that list quite a bit, the idea of infinitely replicable stuff like digital goods having finite supply by no influence of reality is just disgusting misbehaviour in my eyes.

It's certainly close enough, frankly the past posts i've seen on this particular subject combined with this announcement were already enough.
Any actual verbalised responses are just cherries on top by now.

I hope there will be an option to buy these tokens for real money. xD

It's perfectly fine to add a new layer of "play the game and get cosmetic stuff" to the game.
It's cosmetic stuff, not player power, not anything that matters in any real measure, just fun things.
And I also hope they add previously removed items back into rotation, though I fear I may run out of popcorn and need to make a run for more...

This is proof, if proof were needed, that you sooks will cry no matter what Blizzard does.

Just fucking quit if you're gonna whinge about anything that happens, the game will be better off without you lot.

eta: Some of you really need to learn what FOMO actually is. This ain't it.
