You’ll be able to experience this new feature soon on the PTR.

Shop at the Trader’s Corner

A new set of traders will be moving their wares into the capital cities of Stormwind and Orgrimmar—T&W (Tawny and Wilder) and Zen’shiri Trading Posts. You’ll find T&W just outside of the Mage District in Stormwind and the Zen’shiri Trading Post next to Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar. Our trader friends have pulled out all the stops and have set up their shop so you can view the new items of the month prominently on display right at their shop. They’ll have transmogs on mannequins, pets at their feet, and mounts secured in their stable. Speak to the traders to see this month’s wares.

A Home for Creative Cosmetics

There are a multitude of interesting transmog, pet, and mount possibilities in Azeroth, limited only by imagination. The Trading Post will serve as a home for many more items from across Azeroth— and beyond—and is not limited by the current game content. You can expect to see a variety of fun new items to add to your collection.

Opening the possibilities allows for a wide variety of different goods to be brought to the Trading Post and players can expect the unexpected in each month’s new catalogue!

How It Works

To obtain these unique cosmetic items, you will need to acquire a new account-wide currency called “Trader’s Tender.” This can be earned in two ways:

  • Automatically each month: Just by logging in and heading to the Trading Post, you can collect 500 Trader’s Tender every month from a chest called the Collector’s Cache.
  • By completing monthly activities in the Traveler’s Log: A monthly set of activities provides the opportunity to earn up to 500 additional Trader’s Tender.

We’ll be iterating on this new feature as we test on the PTR. The final Trader’s Tender amounts are subject to change.

Get Tender Every Month

At the first of each month, players with an active account in good standing will receive a set amount of Trader’s Tender automatically. If you don’t have active game time on your account or aren’t a subscriber at the start of a new month, don’t worry. Your Tender will be awarded the first day of the month when you do have game time or an active subscription. This will be the same amount for everyone, regardless of how you pay for your game time.

The Traveler’s Log

The second way to earn Trader’s Tender is to complete monthly activities listed in the new Traveler’s Log. Each month features a rotating, themed set of activities. There’s only a set amount of Tender you can earn each month through completing activities, so you won’t need to complete all the ones in the log each month. You’ll be able to pick and choose from a variety of fun in-game activities to easily earn Tender. Players can choose to earn by continuing to play the game as they already do such as completing quests, competing in battlegrounds, taking part in holiday activities, and even running Mythic+ dungeons. But you can also choose to take part in activities uniquely designed for the month.

You’ll be able to view these activities and your progress in the Adventure Guide (Shift-J) in the new Traveler’s Log. A bar at the top of the User Interface (UI) will show your progress in earning Trader’s Tender each. At certain thresholds, Trader’s Tender will be deposited into your Collector’s Cache for pickup. Additional Trader’s Tender is also obtained by filling the bar, but that’s not all…

Monthly Rotation

On the first of the month, the traders will obtain new items and update the activities in the Traveler’s Log for the new month. Items that are rotated out of their inventory won’t be gone for good though—they’ll rotate back into the inventory in future months—giving players who missed them the first time another opportunity to add them to their collections. The Trading Post will also include cosmetics from promotions that are no longer available as well as items normally available for cash purchase on the in-game store as purchasable items with Trader’s Tender instead. This provides an alternative way for players to obtain these items.

Getting a Glimpse of the Future

This is just the start of what we hope will be a rewarding new system for players to further personalize their character and their experiences within World of Warcraft. We’ll be looking toward additional opportunities to provide the community with even more ways to add to their collections and express themselves everywhere they go in Azeroth.

Keep an eye on the upcoming PTR where you’ll get a chance to try the new feature for yourself. We look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to develop this new feature.

This is pretty much it, of course though it does have a "battle pass" each month that is used to earn the customer loyalty points, but yes it is a customer loyalty point system.
Diablo IV wont be entirely focused around cosmetics for anyone who doesn’t want to do party content.

This makes it several miles better than WoW from my pov, no matter how many stupid sets and mounts they will add in the shop during the next years.

If Blizzard would have put an ounce of effort they put for cosmetics towards open world solo paths in these last 20 years, it would have been the game of the century.

So you can skip a week, or a month, and not be behind on anything.

There is no bucket list unless you want 100% of everything in the game. In which case you'll be playing anyways and likely earn most of the activities without extra effort.
Crafting is absolutely optional thanks to the new crafting orders system. There is little competition in this system, as there is not that much gold to make outside of the AH. So you can take your time with the renown farm, you're not missing out on anything.

    Edit:

I've just read that you get the currency automatically. I have no problem with this system anymore.

So is the trading post. It is 100% optional. You only make use of the system if you want a reward. The Renown 19, and higher, profession equipment had tips of 5,000 on my server. So its clear people were missing out on those and the longer it takes to get there the less likely hood of tip/sell-price being cheaper. This is just you rationalizing why Renown isn't a big deal because you are not upset about it.

The same principles can be applied to the trading post except you are choosing to complain about it. It isn't "go out of your way each month" because we don't know what each activity entails. No more then gaining renown requires you to go out of your way. Or an achievement to /love all critters or the one to collect statue pieces to get a toy. Of course the monthly log-in isn't playing the game. The rest are. You know the ones you are already belittling. It really comes across that you are whining just to whine as you are saying the activities required are to little or to much. Lol.

If you want to play a game then play a game. You'll get rewards from playing how you want or you won't. Stop focusing on what you won't get from choosing to play the way you want. If you aren't happy with your choice in game play style then change how you play until you are happy.

I’m sorry where does it say it’s an addition premium for this every month. I reread the post it seems to be suggesting that it is part of your sub. And if they add a premium tier, can’t you…. Not buy it… and still get some cosmetic stuff..

I feel like bait and switching people right now with a 20$ a month only paid version would kick their new design philosophy in the balls. I’m pretty sure it suppose to work like POE’s seasonal achievements that earns you enough for some cosmetic stuff each season.

the amount of people who can't read the post.. seriously, if you hate the game that much... i suggest stop playing and go see another website, like one about a game you actually like..

I saw a dev on Twitter say he spent over a year making this and happy to see it revealed finally.

Like how tf do you spend a year making a vendor with stuff already in the game and a few quests? Plus the skeleton of the system is clearly ripped out of Lost Ark.

No wonder nothing ever gets released.

Otherwise, I see it as a plus. Something that rewards people for subscribing, which the game has desperately needed. Forever.

Reward systems are hardly unique to a specific game, and another one having it doesn't mean you can just copy and paste theirs into your game.

Never mind the amount of times a feature like this would probably be placed on the backburner for something else. Over a year doesn't mean consistently every shift is spent on it.

And I highly doubt its so simple when you have to make sure the game isn't breaking from adding it in the first place.

You have fucking hilariously flawed ideas of game development
there is SO many steps to making an entire fucking system like this.
its not just a "making avendor with stuff"
also lol "the skeleton of the system is ripped off lost ark" you really gunna claim blizz stole lost arks code?
Also "a few quests" is bullshit and lastly
"Vendor with stuff already in the game" idk if you know but only ONE of the things in the shown screenshot is already in the game, the rest is all brand new.

I think the hostility to it comes more from blizzards track record then the system itself. This looks like the implementation of the achievement shop they talked about a while ago.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I have a feeling a lot of the unused recolors of tier made over the years will end up in the shop. I'm just curious if it will creep into the BMAH territory or not.

this is an interesting idea, people seem to come out of the honeymoon phase faster with each expansion and since this one is looking like a pre legion style wow expac they will need to implement stuff more often to keep folks paying the sub. time will tell.

The spread showing off what can be earned reminds me of how Dauntless does it. There is a shop area that is nothing but display showing that seasons cosmetic gear to gawk at. An attractive way to show off cosmetics that's also built right into the game world, not just a menu. Do approve.

And more useless crap to collect is always fine in my book.

This is exactly what I expected and believe Timewalking vendors should had been. Actually great, can't wait to see people seethe at me for buying a rooster mount out of this instead of paying gold cap for it

Complete ignorance of game development pipelines, no surprise from an MMOC news post though.

From conception to implementation, everything takes quite a while. The devs are currently starting pre-production on stuff that'll be playable in 2024.

They've already started on 12.0. MMO dev takes just as long as any other game if not more so it's just that patches and expansions are done behind the scenes as opposed to "Hey check out this early release build". People like the person you responded to are just beyond willfully ignorant about it it boggles the mind.

The key difference is, you know roughly when those things are going to be stocked again, since they're seasonal goods. Unless the trading post's wares are on a set monthly rotation (which is unlikely going off of the bluepost), then it's more akin to sales of nonperishable items or even clearance rack items, where you have no idea when they'll go on sale again. But only time will tell. Dev interviews and similar should provide some insight, but it may be a "Wait and see how it plays out on live" situation.

On the one hand it's about time Blizzard finally figured out that battlepasses are the way to go now, even if they did re-jigger it so that it doesn't look like a battlepass. And I love battlepasses so if I were still playing WoW I would be tentatively happy about this.

My quibble is that between OW2 and now WoW, Blizzard has created the stingiest battlepasses in gaming, and I hope that their stinginess doesn't get picked up by all the other games that I enjoy with generous battlepasses. I worry that the Blizzard simps who lap up anything that's offered to them will show the rest of the gaming companies that they can half-ass their battlepasses and the truly addicted will still cough up money for them.

The blue post states new activities and items introduced every month. So that seems like the rotation for most items will be monthly which gives at least 30 days if you are not subscribed but want a specific item. If the currency doesn't reset each month there is no real reason to have a fear of missing anything because you'll have plenty of time to subscribe and buy.
