Complete monthly activities to earn currency toward decking out your characters in cosmetic transmogs, pets, and mounts— with new items and activities introduced every month. You’ll be able to experience this new feature soon on the PTR.

Shop at the Trader’s Corner

A new set of traders will be moving their wares into the capital cities of Stormwind and Orgrimmar—T&W (Tawny and Wilder) and Zen’shiri Trading Posts. You’ll find T&W just outside of the Mage District in Stormwind and the Zen’shiri Trading Post next to Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar. Our trader friends have pulled out all the stops and have set up their shop so you can view the new items of the month prominently on display right at their shop. They’ll have transmogs on mannequins, pets at their feet, and mounts secured in their stable. Speak to the traders to see this month’s wares.

A Home for Creative Cosmetics

There are a multitude of interesting transmog, pet, and mount possibilities in Azeroth, limited only by imagination. The Trading Post will serve as a home for many more items from across Azeroth— and beyond—and is not limited by the current game content. You can expect to see a variety of fun new items to add to your collection.

Opening the possibilities allows for a wide variety of different goods to be brought to the Trading Post and players can expect the unexpected in each month’s new catalogue!

How It Works

To obtain these unique cosmetic items, you will need to acquire a new account-wide currency called “Trader’s Tender.” This can be earned in two ways:

  • Automatically each month: Just by logging in and heading to the Trading Post, you can collect 500 Trader’s Tender every month from a chest called the Collector’s Cache.
  • By completing monthly activities in the Traveler’s Log: A monthly set of activities provides the opportunity to earn up to 500 additional Trader’s Tender.

We’ll be iterating on this new feature as we test on the PTR. The final Trader’s Tender amounts are subject to change.

Get Tender Every Month

At the first of each month, players with an active account in good standing will receive a set amount of Trader’s Tender automatically. If you don’t have active game time on your account or aren’t a subscriber at the start of a new month, don’t worry. Your Tender will be awarded the first day of the month when you do have game time or an active subscription. This will be the same amount for everyone, regardless of how you pay for your game time.

The Traveler’s Log

The second way to earn Trader’s Tender is to complete monthly activities listed in the new Traveler’s Log. Each month features a rotating, themed set of activities. There’s only a set amount of Tender you can earn each month through completing activities, so you won’t need to complete all the ones in the log each month. You’ll be able to pick and choose from a variety of fun in-game activities to easily earn Tender. Players can choose to earn by continuing to play the game as they already do such as completing quests, competing in battlegrounds, taking part in holiday activities, and even running Mythic+ dungeons. But you can also choose to take part in activities uniquely designed for the month.

You’ll be able to view these activities and your progress in the Adventure Guide (Shift-J) in the new Traveler’s Log. A bar at the top of the User Interface (UI) will show your progress in earning Trader’s Tender each. At certain thresholds, Trader’s Tender will be deposited into your Collector’s Cache for pickup. Additional Trader’s Tender is also obtained by filling the bar, but that’s not all…

Monthly Rotation

On the first of the month, the traders will obtain new items and update the activities in the Traveler’s Log for the new month. Items that are rotated out of their inventory won’t be gone for good though—they’ll rotate back into the inventory in future months—giving players who missed them the first time another opportunity to add them to their collections. The Trading Post will also include cosmetics from promotions that are no longer available as well as items normally available for cash purchase on the in-game store as purchasable items with Trader’s Tender instead. This provides an alternative way for players to obtain these items.

Getting a Glimpse of the Future

This is just the start of what we hope will be a rewarding new system for players to further personalize their character and their experiences within World of Warcraft. We’ll be looking toward additional opportunities to provide the community with even more ways to add to their collections and express themselves everywhere they go in Azeroth.

Keep an eye on the upcoming PTR where you’ll get a chance to try the new feature for yourself. We look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to develop this new feature.

    Honestly that sounds pretty sweet.
Combined with DF's apparant tastiness i am finding it harder to not play than to play for the first time in a long time

I do hope it will feature the spectral tiger mount, not that i'd go for it but i could use some entertainment from the entitled "I overpaid for it so no one should have it!" crowd.

Seems interesting. I'll take more ways to get more cosmetics, I'm for that.

    But -

I can very easily see this going a purchasable currency route. Sure, gold is also a purchasable currency, but this reeks of freemium battlepass material. For a subscription game. FOMO and all.
Ehhh...? I'm cautious after the last few expansions. It doesn't matter how much fun I'm having with DF (which is a LOT, admittedly), because I still don't trust corporate decisions. Regardless, I will enjoy this first implementation of it. I hope it stays exactly like this and doesn't become predatory, even if it adds a bit of FOMO.

Absolutely horrible stuff for subsription based game - it stinks FOMO as hell.
They did mention that it wouldn't be one-off offers though, so no FOMO.
In fact it seems anti-FOMO in providing new chances for removed stuff.

Though of course it could still be added, they were not immune to such temptations in the past.

I'd be the first one to dislike FOMO stuff, but people aren't reading what this actually is.

    Not to mention this:

Items that are rotated out of their inventory won’t be gone for good though—they’ll rotate back into the inventory in future months—giving players who missed them the first time another opportunity to add them to their collections.
They are also giving away shop mounts, something you'd have to pay $25 to actually get. This is good.

Seems cool of an idea as long as they keep IRL Money out of it.

I can understand not being interested in transmog and mounts and stuff so the feature is not for you and not fun, but greedy? Would be very interesting if could expand on that reasoning?
Eh, I think the first guy didn't even read the post and instantly assumed it will be using some premium currency, and other dude immediately decided it WILL have said currency in the future. AKA unhinged peeps, who post before they read/think.

Looks cool but given the track record, I'm already wondering how Blizzard will mess this up.

Am I the only one getting Cosmetic Cash Shop vibes from this?

First of all - if you won't log single day per month you are already behind in currency.

Secondly - pushing anything for unknown future ("they’ll rotate back into the inventory in future months" can mean 2-3 years) is already FOMO.
They did exactly same thing when removed some pets from the store and added '*' with info that they can return.

Yes - this part is really good.

Yeah but the difference is you had to use real money for the shop.
  1. RobertMugabe's Avatar
This is an incredible addition to the game.

Even if this currency might be something you can buy for real money (which is pure speculation by some very pessimistic players), this is still awesome as you can still earn that stuff yourself, unlike with the store where it's money (or huge amounts of gold) only.

I absolutely do not think that this is FOMO. I doubt that the stuff on the rotation will be unique stuff every time, but it will be on a rotation where new and old things get added in, which the article itself even says.

Where does it say, that you have to login every single day?
  1. Xilurm's Avatar
If you log in once a month you get 500 coins. Celestial Steed in that screenshot costs 900. So you have a month to get it.

Yeah, already replied to that this is really good thing and happy to see they made it that way.

Please read again what i typed... you have to log in single day per month... not everyday.

Yes - this part is really good.
There is no "behind" in a set / infinitely repeating supply.
I mean sure you'll have less, but that's a given - no different from having less gold if you farm less gold.
It's just a less bothersome / farmable process.

And yes it can be exploited, anything can, but by adding the notice that it can or will return they are explicitly deflating the FOMO part of it. There is no exploitative reason to do that other than to show "look we get that being "forced" to play at a given time us shitty on our part".

Meaning that if they do openly introduce actual FOMO to this system it will create that much more added backlash, making it that much more unlikely.
(which doesn't mean it couldn't happen, just that there are no signals from them at present that it will, only signals that it won't, for whatever that's worth)

That's what it said. Every month new items each month on a rotation. So if you miss an item you will have to wait X months to see it again. I would rather have them just keep adding new item to the list each month.

this is clearly a MAU generator to keep shareholders happy (and some players)...but when the shareholders still aren't satisfied it will be rolled into the WoW token creating 2 streams of shareholder pleasure (MAU / Monetization) and the justification will be that its ONLY cosmetic.
