It is with great joy that I announce Chris Metzen has joined the Warcraft Leadership Team as Creative Advisor. Chris’s focus initially will be on World of Warcraft, then his work will expand to other projects across this growing franchise.
Chris was one of the original team members working on the Warcraft universe back when it began in 1994, and we are so happy to be reuniting him with the world he helped create.
They want him back? Oh my, I wonder what the new garde at blizzard thought about that. I just don't see him being needed tbh, the side stories have somewhat improved recently and the biggest issue, the main villain, wasn't something Metzen did well either with the exception of Arthas, which is more of a lucky accident in retrospect.

That was only ever some creative outlet for nerdy stuff. That became clear when their first project was a dnd sourcebook kickstarter instead of a videogame project.
Just because they brought chris back doesn't mean that it is gonna make wow better. If activision wanted blizzards games to stay good they should have let them continue as an independent company within activision like they said they were gonna do when blizzard was acquired by them.
Now who wants to pay $20 for a epic skin in Overwatch? Wait, i mean a legendary skin...
Yes, I was so disappointed in the previous expansion that I didn't play for a LONG WHILE, but this might actually make me return!!
Long live the Metzen legacy!!
(Even though he's wearing an Alliance shirt here for some reason, I think he's a mostly Horde player! Although I could find very few photos of Metzen wearing Horde T-shirts)
Got to see him at 2018 Blizzcon, and so glad he's back. He was really the heart and soul of wow in it's earlier days and I can't wait to see where things will go now with him rejoining.
I do hope he's prepared though, the negativity in the community is a bit worse than it was in his prior days and it was bad enough then. Like sports teams, there are wow fans that are just here to look for reasons to complain. Flying for just one example, can fly - where's my exploration, no flying - why can't I fly at launch...
God damn, the number of conspiracies per page on this topic is through the fucking roof... even by MMO-C standards. Every time I think I've set the bar too low, this place comes through to show me it can go lower.
I have zero expectations though, as he's just an "advisor".
They'll just roll over anything he has to say.
It's really not too different from what his role was before departing, which was VP for the Story and Franchise Development department. The job was basically supervising the macro level story and managing how all the media, including short stories and cinematics, would tie in together.
I don't think Metzen is the greatest storyteller ever, by any stretch, but he's incredibly passionate and his energy was a major part of what made Warcraft -- and Blizzard -- what it is. To have him back in the fold, even in just an advisory capacity, is great.
you can already see how failure DF is if they had to bribe Metzen to come back to blizz to save warcraft.
its unmitigated disaster - sadly untill Ion is fired nothing will chance even Metzen wont help .
seems like you fall under the category of no matter what they do, you'll be unhappy. i hope you're not subbed, in-game community could do with less of this type of person.

ikr, there is nothing they can do to please that type of person. wish they would just move on to something they'd actually enjoy (if there is such a thing). rather than spending their energy complaining. the things they could get done in their lives. lol
