Greg Street Steps Down From Executive Producer Role On Riot Game's Upcoming MMORPG

Dragonflight PTR changes name over to 10.1 from 10.0.5
The Dragonflight PTR has recently changed names on the Battle.net client, turning from 10.0.5 to 10.1. There has been no change to the actual content on the server, however, meaning that those looking for information on 10.1 will likely have to wait a bit longer.

Sad to see Ghostcrawler leave the Riot MMO.

I really hope the team has some people that can talk about their thought processes and reasoning for desisions they make almost as well as he could. His biggest strength to me.

Some things I remember from him:

    * Nerf paladins TO THE GROUND meme made a lot of paladins mad but it was funny
    * He said he did NOT encurage people to boycot WoW by unsubscribing to send a message, it is not worth the loss of fun, and it does not have much of an impact
    * He said his biggest regret at the WoW team was the introduction of LFR. I am paraphrasing but it was because it ruined what made raiding a social thing.
    * How often he talked to the community and informed us about the future plans

Also Riot keeps using the words "very very early stage" on the MMORPG so my take is it won't be out until at least 2027.

So it seems Ghostcrawler is leaving Riot now? At least that's what the article seems to suggest is happening with the mention of 'other opportunities' in addition to the stepping down and no other mention of work elsewhere in Riot. Considering the time they've investing in working on their currently phantom MMO as well as the new loss of the main driver for it you would think that they'd just scrap the project at this point and instead refocus entirely on their mini-LoL projects line instead which is at least making money for them or even a new IP after Valorant's stumbling.

He is leaving RIOT due to personal lossess (read like a parent dieing) and now values being closer to family so he is probably moving to his home town, and therefore quitting.

I can appreciate a man who cares for his family more then his job. Sometimes one must do what he has to do when it comes to real life.

Let's get 10.0.7 out before we start talking about 10.1, k?

Yeah I’ve been there, that’s very understandable

We’re going to see both in the next two and a bit months; 10.0.7 in late March and 10.1 in May

Imagine if GC went back to Blizzard, you'd need two seat belts to strap in for the drama.

Well, Paladins deserved it, because they had 3 lives for a long time back in WotLK vs my only 1. It wasn't "To the ground". It was balancing. At least we haven't heard "No brain Palas" memes since then.

    But Ghostcrawler made many mistakes:
    1) He thought hardcore game would return Classic/TBC glory
    2) He thought underwater location would be interesting
    3) He thought, that LFR was mistake, while it stabilized sub number after losing 2.5M subs
    4) He thought, that implementing flying was big mistake
    5) Etc.

Typical hardcore MMO player with his prejudiced vision.

Weird take for someone who does literally nothing but whine about his prejudiced vision not being met to the last detail.

He left for personal reasons due to family, not for other "opportunities"

However, Ibarra is a useless tard and WoW is a sinking ship. It'd be great if they used this time when GC is ready to jump back into work if they offered him the role of President or Game Director. It's what Blizzard needs right now

Game developer can't be prejudiced. He should understand his players. If he makes game personally for himself - then he is doomed to fail, because only he will play such game at the end.

For example I'm anti-sportman. I don't understand people, who torture themselves to achieve ephemeral goals. Prove to others, that they're the best? This is stone age motivation. So what? How can I make game for hardcore players, if I just don't understand them? I wouldn't. Opposite is also true. If you don't understand 90% of your playerbase - you shouldn't be lead game designer of such game.

You do realize that's exactly what vanilla WoW was right?
They even said in some behind the scenes that they have tried to make a diffent game and it didn't work out, so they went on to make a game that they wanted to play, so they made WoW.
Now I'm not saying that making a hardcore game and alienting 90%+ if the playerbase is a good thing of course.

That is the definition of being a sell-out. The ONLY reason people don't do the game they want, and ignore their true vision is for monetary results and in the end they can still fail.

Minecraft is the result of doing what you want. Bloodborne is the result of doing what you want. Fez? Bastion? The Witness? Limbo? Warcraft? Diablo? Everybody's gone to the rapture! I know this is the wrong crowd for some of these games but innovation comes from doing what you want and not what the public wants.

When you cater to the public you end up with whatever Hollywood is right now. Maybe a super hero movie making machine.
Catering to the public is why the AAA industry is in the shitter.

Looks like they want release patch every 2 months (and 10.1 can't really be delayed cause Diablo 4), which is enough for reveal and full PTR cycle of small patch, but sligthly too short for big patches.

Weird to say that someone's opinion is prejudiced but then you just gave yours.....LoL. You remind me of that typical and arrogant player who thinks no one else should have a opinion, but that yours is the only one that matters. People like you are the one's that I respond to once then try and forget about.

And to what players he should listen to? because in a room with 10 players there will be probably 10 different opinions how the game should look like.

When Chris Wilson started working on PoE he had a vision and made the game exactly how he and his team wanted it to be and look how big the game is now.
Did you ever saw on this forum some "dev player" ideas? They were so horrible that I would stop playing the moment something like this would make it to live release.
So no, theres alot of cases when listening to players is not that good for the game at all.
