Dragonflight Patch 10.1 PTR - Fyrakk Assaults Early Preview
Today we are taking a quick peek at the early iteration of Fyrakk Assaults in the Dragon Isles on the Patch 10.1 Embers of Neltharion PTR. The content is still not fully implemented, so this is just a general idea of what to expect for now.

Fyraak Assault Basics
  • A Fyrakk Assault appears in one of the original Dragon Isles zones once a day and lasts for 24 hours.
  • Assault area turns red and ashy as it is invaded by Djaradin forces, Primalists, and Primal Drakes.
  • There is a tiny hub in the assault area with member's of the zone's faction. 3 quests can be picked up here and completed for rewards and reputation.
  • Killing enemies in the area can drop Ward of Igira.
    • Collecting 5 Ward of Igira lets you interact with Suffusion Crucibles in the area.
    • Suffusion Crucible summons a random set of elites that drop Ward of Fyraak.
  • 5 Ward of Fyraak are needed to interact with a Suffusion Mold.
  • You need 3 Everburning Key to open the Secured Shipment cache in the assault.
  • Killing the named elite is the only requirement to complete the world quest for the assault. Everything else is optional.
  • The world quest rewards reputation with the zone's faction and gear.

Fyraak's Fury
  • Fyraak Assaults also have a Fyrakk's Fury meter. Interfering with his forces in the assault area will slowly fill a bar.
  • When the bar reaches 100%, Fyraak will slowly fly towards the Assault area, burning everything in his path in a similar way to Deathwing from Cataclysm's prepatch. He is marked on the map as he comes.
  • When Fyraak reaches the Assault area, he will bombard the area with shadowflame before leaving.
  • A Disciple of Fyraak raid boss proto drake will spawn and players must work together to kill it.

Yeaaah not exactly a fan of this kind of design. Collect X to get Y, then collect Y to do Z, then collect Z to turn in for A. That's the epitome of boring, generic WoW quest design.

And of course it's a daily thing with cumulative rewards, so people will once again feel FOMO and falling behind if they don't do this EVERY SINGLE DAY. Wasn't that what DF wanted to get AWAY from?

This certainly isn't making me want to go get DF, it only further reinforces my decision not to buy it. This is antiquated, outdated design that should have just died in... a fire.

Go fetch 10 monkey penis's and return them, and then go back out and kill 8 bears for their ball sacks, and return. Rinse and repeat that X 100 times, for a minor i5 Lvl upgrade. You will go from i420 to i425 after wasting hours running this boring AF quests.

I never even run the current Primal Storms crap, so lame, and boring, and never drops upgrades or any gear worth anything. Or whatever the new one is called they added in 10.0.5 in the winter zone.

The great thing about this stuff in Dragonflight is that I can safely ignore all of it. Zereth Mortis had some serious player power hidden behind those boring weeklies (5 weeks for second legendary, revered to craft it max ilvl) which could not be ignored.

There are players for whom primal storms and fyraak assaults are endgame, I hope they enjoy it.

I believe most games boil down to this in the end, point is what you do/experience in-between? feel free to share a better design if you got one. Plenty of other stuff to do in the game anyway, you're free to ignore stuff like this.

Not unless you're being ENTIRELY reductive. I'm talking about the actual event progression, which is literally that. Not about the fact that at the end of the day all RPGs are about "acquire various objects" which is a trivial and useless statement.

It's not my job to come up with better design. It's BLIZZARD'S. We PAY THEM for that.

The notion that you can't criticize anything unless you can personally improve it is inane.

I really don't like the overused concept of gather X to get Y then use Y for Z in this type of daily activity. Not only it is bland but also tedious since we've been doing it countless times in previous expansions. As it's stated, it's an initial iteration of the assaults, let's hope they can improve it before the actual release. Also, can we make primal infusions and the like account wide? Kthnx.

    - edit -

Forgot to add this rant but I'm gonna do it anyway since I brought up the acc-wide thing. Make the teleports from timed 20+ (and the older challenge modes) account wide. There's no reason for them not to be. They're one of the reasons I hesitate trying to main other classes between seasons as I've been collecting this kind of thing since MoP. They are merely a flavorful utility, they grant no player power whatsoever and neither can be abused due to the unecessarily long 8 hour cd. Make the whole account share the cooldowns if you must, but let all characters use the teleports, please.

Doesn't look too different to other things we already have I'm DF. I wish they tried to make different events like it has been with the first ones, like the soup for example. I suppose I will do it a few times and then forget about it.

About the last thing, I also think it should be account wide, but is it that bad for you that you don't want to play alters just because you don't want to move your character? Like literally there are portals to the zones of other expansion dungeons. In fact I don't like that we get portals to the dungeon because it takes away part of the RPG feeling.

You know you can still fly/walk there if you want, right? It's fine if YOU prefer it that way, but it's a bit weird to suggest everyone else should lose their fast-travel option just because you can't stop yourself from using it even though you'd rather be long-traveling.

I absolutely agree that the m+20 teleports have no business NOT being account-wide. As should most of the other alt/catchup stuff.

I mean, but I don't really understand the NEED for it, like it's super fast to go to the dungeon, it just makes the game a lobby for dungeons.

It does seem interesting. However I do not understand all these 20 or so currencies in the game allready.

Why all of a sudden introduce kill this to get currency A, use currency A to summon mob B, kill mob B to get currency C and 10 steps later of this you finally get some reward?

Why not reduce the amount of steps by at least half?

i like the portals, so right now in the game you can do it one of two ways. use the portals you hate or fly to the zone as you prefer. just becasue a portal is there it doenst stop you from flying there.

Sounds like casual world content is not for you? Also not sure why you hope for groundbreaking innovation from a 20 year old game?

Going out on a limb and guessing that while it changes zones every day, it's probably just like every community event in DF and only your first completion in the week awards the epic cache, with subsequent completions dropping to rare and uncommon for the people that want to grind out crests and renown.

Way too many currencies in WoW already, no need to add more and make it so convoluted.
