Reminder: Battle.net Authenticator Migration
Blizzard has sent emails regarding the Battle.net Authenticator Migration, reminding players to download the new Battle.net Mobile App by January 5, 2024 to avoid any issues logging in.

Players that choose not to install the new app will have the authenticator removed from their accounts, and they will no longer be protected or able to approve login requests. The account's password will also be reset, and instructions on how to set up a new password will be sent to the registered email inbox.

Migrating An Authenticator

If you currently have your Battle.net Authenticator in the Battle.net Authenticator App, you should migrate to the new Battle.net Mobile App now! Once you migrate to the new app you should remove the legacy Authenticator app from your device as the codes will no longer be usable. When migration becomes required on January 5, 2024, users who have not yet migrated will have their old Authenticator removed from their account and will receive a password reset to their registered email inbox. Until the Authenticator is active in the Battle.net Mobile App, users will lose access to the perks associated with having an Authenticator on their account such as the Corehound pet, extra bag slots, and access to LFG features.

Managing An Authenticator

If you have never used an Authenticator, or had an old Authenticator, additional details and information on installing and setting up your Authenticator in the Battle.net Mobile App can be found on our support article, Battle.net Authenticator. If you need to remove an old Authenticator from your account, follow the prompts here to remove your Authenticator temporarily.

Can't Access My Account

If you are unable to access your account at all, follow the steps here to recover your account credentials.

If you no longer know the password to your account, it can be reset by following the steps on our support article, Forgot Password.

FAQ

Can I use the same Authenticator Serial Number to secure more than one Battle.net Account?

The Battle.net Authenticator requires a phone number be attached to an account, and a phone number can only be attached to a single Battle.net Account.

Can I set up the same Authenticator Serial Number in more than one smartphone?

Your unique Authenticator is tied to your mobile device and we do not support setting up the same Serial Number on more than one device.

I don't have a mobile phone number

A mobile phone number is required to set up and use the Battle.net Authenticator. If you are unable to access your previous Authenticator contact support.

I'm not receiving the text message during setup

Battle.net Phone Notifications are designed for text-enabled mobile phones. Messaging apps like iMessage (iOS) or WhatsApp (iOS, Android) are not supported. Phone notifications cannot be used with Voice over IP (VoIP), and VoIP numbers that are transferred to a local provider are not eligible for the service.

I have a physical Authenticator. Can I still set up an authenticator in the Battle.net Mobile App?

Before you can attach the mobile Battle.net Authenticator you will need to remove the physical authenticator from your account.

Terrible app. It constantly loses my login and I've never been able to get in the app. But for some weird reason the authenticator does in fact work...

Total BS, but I don't care. I had 4 extra account for multiboxing back in old times. Well, not exactly for multiboxing, but just to create solo-guilds and invite new characters to them. I no longer need these accounts and will have to abandon them completely.

But at the same time I don't understand, why it's done. Isn't two-factor authentication no longer secure enough, so we need "online" authenticator? Sounds like attempt for force mobile app with lots of ads on all customers.

Bootstrap problem - how do you access the authenticator within the battle net app if you need the authenticator to access the app?

If we have the old physical authenticator can I continue using it and get sent sms text codes as usual? Or will blizz force me to install this app or be threatened that they will lock out my account/force a password reset???

I love how they can take something SO F*CKING SIMPLE... and completely f it up...

I download the battle.net blizzard authenticator and it says they are discontinuing it and removing it and to get the battle net mobile app so I go and do that. I go through the process and remove my physical authenticator and then prepare to setup the new one. My battle net mobile app is telling me to DOWNLOAD THE BATTLE.NET MOBILE APP FROM THE GOOGLE STORE... SO I GOT THE LINK ON MY PHONE AND IT SHOWS I HAVE IT. I OPEN IT AGAIN AND IT SAYS TO DOWNLOAD IT FROM THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE...

Way to f*cking go whoever made this ass backward crap... never had a problem with my physical authenticator ever but now I'm stuck thanks to this garbage made by some moron piece of shit app...

From what I've understood, you won't be able to use an old physical authenticator. If you wish to use an authenticator on your account, it has to be the one included in the Battle.net Mobile app.

I could be completely wrong, but this is what I've understood at least. Seems rather shitty to make people forced to use that app.

I have been using the Battle.net Mobile App for a few months already, and I've been getting the emails that tell me I need to migrate to it before the deadline... I haven't had the Authetnicator app on my phone for a while. They definitely goofed up pretty hard it seems.

I finally got it figured out and it is SO ass backwards... like I've been around tech all of my life even though I'm older (ok boomer) but these mobile app's and people that support this crap drive me nuts. Add mobile app authenticator should be as easy as the original physical one but no... so many hoops to jump through, do this, do that... and their instructions from their official website are ridiculous.

It says to open the mobile app and tap "Serial and Restore" so I can get the serial number for my mobile authenticator and there is NOTHING IN THE APP ANYWHERE THAT SHOWS A SERIAL NUMBER. I click something completely random on my phone, I get sent a code and nothing... same problem. I do this on my computer through WoW settings, I get an SMS text... BOOM... everything is fixed now.

SO WHY IS THERE OFFICIAL INFO ABOUT A F*CKING SERIAL NUMBER INPUT FROM A MOBILE APP THAT DOESN'T EVEN F*CKING HAVE ONE...

Technology was meant to be easier moving into the future not harder... and for my last commentary to these shit companies... in big ol capital letters...

IF I WANT MY PASSWORD FOR ANYTHING TO BE 2 OR APPLE OR KISSMYASS... I DO NOT NEED SPECIAL CHARACTERS, SYMBOLS, THE HAIR OF A LLAMA AND A SHADE OF NIGHTSHADE TO COMPLETE MY PASSWORD -- IT'S MY F*CKING PASSWORD.

    REEEE

Ok, I'm done for the day. F*ck your mobile apps... they all blow. :P

from what i understand this only applies to people using the phone app and not the old keyfob.

you can also try asking here to get clarity on it.

I don't think those of us still using the discontinued physical authenticator have to concern ourselves with this, but a blue post for clarity's sake would be nice.

Neat, I got the Cataclysm version but removed it from my account a while ago because the battery was running out. I was kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place for a while because my iPhone was too old for the app, but I think I'll start looking into it now... if only for the extra 4 bag slots.

I downloaded the new app, it send an authentication code to the original authenticator, I switched to the original program, accepted, and now the b.net app works normally.

Did you lose your core hound pet to when you did it? I always wondered if there was a way to get it back.

You don't need to login to the app to use the authenticator. No authenticator (whether it's Google's, or Microsoft's, etc...), should require a login to use.

I'd have to reinstall the game to be sure but probably. I assume it works like the extra bag slots--you lose them once you no longer have an authenticator active on your account, but can regain them anytime by reattaching an authenticator.
