The War Within Alpha - Switching Between Skyriding and Steady Flight
In The War Within Alpha, you now have a spell called “Switch Flight Style” that allows you to switch between Skyriding (Dynamic) and Steady (Regular) flight.

  • You must be on the ground to cast this spell.
  • Switch Flight Style has a 5-second cast time.
  • Switch Flight Style dismounts you.

The War Within Alpha - Dornogal Portal
The Dornogal portal can be found in the Stormwind and Orgrimmer Portal Rooms on The War Within Alpha.

  • These portals are not finished.
  • The Alliance version is in the second portal room and occupies the first spot on the right. It is the same room as the Bel’ameth Portal.
  • The Horde version is in the basement portal room to the left of the Shattrath portal.

The War Within Alpha - Warband Character Select Screen
Today we are looking at the new character select screen in The War Within. This campfire scene allows you to select up to four of your favorite characters to be showcased, but all of your characters on your account belong to your Warband. You can see Blizzard's official blog post for Warbands here.

Lots of things are shared across your Warband:

  • The War Within faction reputations
  • Warbound items (until equipped)
  • Unbound items and reagents
  • Transmog appearances
  • Flight paths
  • Some achievements
  • Delve progress
  • Warband Bank - Holds items and gold, costs progressively more gold to unlock:
    • Tab 1 - 1,000 gold
    • Tab 2 - 25,000 gold
    • Tab 3 - 100,000 gold
    • Tab 4 - 500,000 gold
    • Tab 5 - 2,500,000 gold
    • Unlocking all tabs will cost you 3,126,000 gold!
  • Potentially some currencies when it makes sense

"Arachnophobia Mode"? Really? I've got effortphobia, can they swap out quests and combat for free experience at a vendor?

Arachnophobia mode always reminds me of the Skyrim mod that replaces spiders with spiderman.

    Made it even more horrifying

Ah yes, let's pretend arachnophobia isn't the one which usually gets modded support in a game, just so we can REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE at blizzard.

Probably when it becomes one of the most common phobias.

You sound like the kind of a person who complains about the a ramp to a store because it doesn't make someone life with a broken arm easier.

It's not exactly hate, it's something you can't control.
As someone with pet spiders I don't really understand them either, but I understand the condition.

I have a friend who is deathly afraid of spiders and I'm very happy for him! He has in the past not been able to be in certain parts of the game.

Phobia does not equal hate. It equals fear, which is what phobias are.

For example when I see a spider I get overwhelmed with a weird type of panic. I am not disgusted, nor do I hate the spider, but my brain equals spiders with danger. It's not something you can control and people with phobias all react differently. Some can't breathe, some faint, others freeze up, others scream and some run.

I also have a fear of heights and it usually makes me unable to move and my legs turn to jelly and this doesn't stop before I am "safe" from the view that caused me to panic in the first place.

True phobias are illogical but a remnant from when it was the difference between life and death. You could call it a sort of instinct, where your brain reacts before you actually gets time to assess the situation.

I personally don't react to spiders in games, as they don't look realistic enough for me to think they are spiders. I think it's something about how they move that is very rarely captured in games. I also don't mind jumping spiders or tarantulas as much as daddy longlegs type spiders which freaks me out. It's definitely the thin legs that triggers me. It can be so bad that if I only see something that is spider shaped near my face my body panics.

But I know others can't handle spiders in any form and there is a reason why games like Skyrim has mods that turns spiders into bears. I also know of WoW players who couldn't do Naxramas back in the day because of the Arachnid quarter and the spider boss, and the Nerubian dungeons.

So I think an arachnophobia mode is definitely welcome.

Switch flight style sucks for druids. The ability to dismount a dragon when you ran out of vigor in the air and instantly cast flight form and carry on flying is awesome

I have arachnophobia so bad I dislocated my shoulder getting out of a moving car to get away from one.
But ingame they have zero effect on me.
I have a salt-gun literally beside my desk and bed so I can blast the fuck out of any I see, cause fuck that, my whole body tenses up and the rare time they do get away I literally cannot sleep, missed many days of school cause I would see a spider, ask family to come kill it, it would get away, and then I would be sitting on my bed with a flash light unable to sleep all night worried it will crawl all over me in my sleep.

There is a few games though where spiders are too realistic and make it trigger a bit, and god some movies, nope nope nope.

Prob has to do with being attacked by a dock spider as a kid, those things are fucked, they eat fish and birds.

NGL, I find it more weird that people choose to have spiders as pets than people having phobias of them.

I've definitely slept on the couch at least once as a kid when the spider in my room that I begged my dad to kill managed to get away. WoW spiders used to freak me out. Not to the point I couldn't play but they made my skin crawl and would jump if one came up on me from behind unexpectedly. Thankfully I'm immune to them now (WoW spiders, not real ones).
