An Update on This Year’s BlizzCon and Blizzard’s 2024 Live Events

This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years.

Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing more details about our launches coming later this year, including World of Warcraft: The War Within and Diablo IV's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred. To celebrate these upcoming releases and to bring our communities together in new and special ways, we will soon share some exciting plans for other industry trade shows and conventions like Gamescom. We can’t wait to tell you more about those plans soon. We’re also looking forward to the Overwatch Champions Series’ stops at both Dreamhack Dallas and Dreamhack Stockholm. And we’re thrilled to be planning multiple, global, in-person events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Warcraft, which will be held in addition to the in-game celebrations across our Warcraft games throughout 2024. While these events are distinct from BlizzCon, we’re harnessing all of our creativity and imagination to ensure that they carry the same spirit of celebration and togetherness.

Our hope is that these experiences – alongside several live-streamed industry events where we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening in our game universes – will capture the essence of what makes the Blizzard community so special.

No matter how you choose to connect with us at these events this year – whether it be in person or virtually – we can’t wait to see you there!

good thing, last year it was great but the announcement for WoW WS saga played a huge part. But now the WS saga has to play itself.

Except for this one, the last Blizzcon that was a huge show was the one where they release Cho'gall on Heroes of the Storm... it's been a while

It kinda tells that if there's no WoW news there's no Blizzcon lol

This game is carrying their ass so hard, all their other titles are dead beyond salvage.

As expected. I remember the internet talk during last Blizzcon and no one really gave a shit about Overwatch 2 hero or Hearthsone expansion or Rumble. People just wanted the new WoW expansion and Classic+.

World of Warcraft is Blizzard's flagship title and the only one worth talking about.

They will return in 2025 with Midnight.

Okay, 2023 no Starcraft on the key art. This year no blizzcon at all... but next year... next year they announce SC3 for sure!

No, Blizzard other titles could be have much hype aswell, but they dont give a shit about HOTS, Starcraft, Overwatch and Hearthstone, so all these games are retired or get just some cashgrab shit these days.

Its like they are a restaurant that kicks all of its smaller meals & drinks of the menue, cause most people just ordering XY mostly anway. The smaller meals & co are important aswell, to improve the overall experience.

People wanted blizzard to keep failing all their games and here we are 2024 gaming no cool games releasing and nothing on the horizon. That's a big PC gamer win. Blizzard has nothing to offer and we are so happy no games are coming out

    That makes no sense.

If they don't have new WoW content to show there is no need for Blizzcon. It's better this way, we'll get a better event when they have stuff to show for the Midnight expansion. Nobody in the grand scheme of things cares about Overwatch/Heroes/Hearthstone. Diablo can't carry blizzcon by itself, and starcraft is dead for all intent and purposes.

If they held an event with minimal content people like you would be the first to yell out loud "lul that's it?"

unsurprising, wow is their flagship game and there wont be much to show for it this year. TWW would have just launched, maybe even 11.0.5, best they coulda done is preview 11.0. I don't think there's enough interested in hearthstone, rumble, D4, or OW2 to structure an entire blizzcon around. WoW is clearly the star of the show

more like the state of other blizzard games. no wow = no interest, that much is clear. But you are lumping in 'blizzard' as a whole when its pretty obvious the only reason theres no blizzcon this year is because there isnt any wow news. but that would require a fair assessment of the situation on your part which you don't seem to be keen on doing

disagreed. i think you specifically are a great example of someone who wants them to fail. you revel in their failures and invent things to complain about when they succeed. you mentioned in the past you're an asmongold fan, and i think we need to look no further than his community to see this type of behavior be commonplace

even if we go with your assumption that Blizzard is apparently worthless (?) , you do know that the deal also included Activision and King, right?

Have you considered finding a healthy hobby instead of... this?

I suspect this is part of the direction change with MS and skeptical that it will make a return in future years. If anything you'd think this would be a prime Blizzcon year aligning close to TWW release and an opportunity to market and build hype for that. So if they don't see the value this year, I'm not sure how the math will make sense in a between-release year. Microsoft needs to handle this a lot better than they do most things, because otherwise they could very quickly turn Blizzard into just another dev/publisher.

I wonder if there's still people that are in denial about the vast majority of people that go to Blizzcon, do it for WoW news.

Like, nobody who goes there gives a shit about their other franchises. Maybe a very small amount of people. The biggest and loudest cheers from the audience are always when they show something WoW related.

Well if they don't have something massive to announce, why bother.

Makes total sense to skip the off years. Those were always the lame duck BlizzCons, unless some other game happened to line up in between the WoW expansion cycle that drove most of the hype.

Conventions are kind of outdated now anyway. Very 2010s. Just do it all online.

I am looking forward to see how these "global in-person" events for the 30th anniversary are going to play out. Maybe its something in the same vein as the Diablo 4 promo stuff like the Tattoo sessions they had in various cities worldwide.
