When: July 30 – August 26
Where: Dalaran (hub), Dragonblight, Dustwallow Marsh, and Searing Gorge
Currency: Residual Memories – Half forgotten memories can be glimpsed in the light playing across this iridescent powder.
Levels: 10-70

Players with and without The War Within™ will be able to take part in this event for its duration.

Confronting Memories

Players who have reached level 70 will receive an introductory quest and then will be directed to visit Dalaran to start. Players under level 70 will be immediately directed to Dalaran.

The event occurs in two stages and cycles between three zones, changing zones every hour. Portals in Dalaran will be available to take you directly to the event staging area and a return portal is available in each of the event zones so that players can quickly return to Dalaran and head into the next occurrence of the event. When the event is active in a zone, the portal will have an additional golden glow to indicate that it is active.

Stage 1

Defeat the radiant echoes causing havoc in the zone. Random events that are active within the zone can be seen on the map (M). Event locations throughout the stages are marked by a multicolor globe. Once enough memories have been defeated, a zone boss will spawn.

Stage 2

You’ll be able to undertake a quest in each zone during the event that will ask for you to defeat one of the event bosses as follows:

  • Only Darkness: Remembered Lich King Slain (Dragonblight)
  • Broken Masquerade: Remembered Onyxia Slain (Dustwallow Marsh)
  • Champion of the Waterlords: Remembered Firelord Slain (Searing Gorge)

Once the boss is defeated by players the event will return to stage 1, spawning new memories to fight.

Rewards

Players will be able to accumulate Residual Memories to use to purchase items from various vendors in each of the zones. You can keep track of how much Residual Memories you’ve collected by opening Character Info (Hotkey- C) and the currency tab under the War Within dropdown.

  • Dalaran: Remembrancer Amuul in Chamber of the Guardian
  • Dragonblight: Echo of the Silver Hand at Wyrmrest Temple
  • Dustwallow Marsh: Forgotten Hero at Tabetha’s Farm
  • Searing Gorge: Memory of a Duke in the Iron Summit

Players who purchase the Lifeless Stone Ring will be able to collect memories throughout the three event zones to combine into essences and infuse it with power creating the Band of Radiant Echoes (item level 227) heirloom ring.

  • Essence of the Eastern Kingdoms
  • Essence of Kalimdor
  • Essence of Northrend

Gear will begin at item level 480 with some room for upgrades. Here’s what you can look forward to:

The pace of doing Objectives vary too much.

The ones where you kill a target elite/boss are done very quickly... where as ones like the Lumber in Dragonflight is 1% per log turn in, which is excruciatingly slow to do.

So doing the "Memories Remaining" progress to spawn the Zone boss it'd be best to focus on them Target objectives whenever they're up.

The rewards pile up fast now with the content loop allowing the boss to respawn a couple of times. Got most of the gear I was after the first two days, and the rest, plus mount, plus heirloom ring today after the reset.

    Wait, I remember you!

Am I blind or have the mounts been removed from the vendor?

    Edit: Dalaran vendor only.

Ah finally, you can just camp the boss spot, just don't forget to change zones every hour.

Ah, in fact the quickest and easiest way to farm the memories is just having a char parked on different servers on the boss spot, and just logging through them looking for a shard where the boss will spawn soon.

And another edit: The item and cache you get from the boss kill directly seems to still be char dependent, so if you're after transmogs you should use different chars for each boss.

Indeed, finished collecting everything a lot quicker than I anticipated.
Only needing to buy one mount to get both, and the pets being unique. And a couple of lucky weapons drops, I collected everything with 40k to spare.

Though, I find it slightly annoying that you need to equip the gear you buy, to collect the appearance, shouldn't.
And also, a Plate character can equip all armor types to finish the appearance collection, while a cloth character can't, this all seems like some kind of oversight, wasn't this supposed to be a thing of the past?

Mog will unlock once you obtain a soulbound item, or once you equip/vendor a BoE/BoW item.
Cloth charecter just needs to buy the things, then vendor them and it will unlock.
better to actually use them on alts though cause then you can use them in the catalyst to also unlock tier gear appearences.

Have you seen the "Memories of Stranglethorn" one in Searing Gorge? I arrived there when the event started. And we were still one page away when Ragnaros was summoned/spawned.

"Memories of Stranglethorn" is very accurate. Ages to farm pages.

I stick to the same 2-3 per zone every time. Usually kill normal/elite mobs for a progress bar, or a very easy spam click one.
    For example:
    South Shore.
    Lazy Peons.
    Oh Noes, the Tadpoles.
    Deviate…
    Swamp Spider Eyes.
Things like the above. I try to stay away from the ‘Memories of’ elites, as they tend to take a while, and I can usually be done with 1.5-2 of the other ones before people kill them.
I definitely avoid some of them, like the weapon one at the Emerald Dragon area in DB, or the Webbed Crusaders, and especially the Green Hills one.
Some just take way too long,
