Xbox x Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Rockstar Energy Drink Promotion Rewards
Xbox is teaming up with Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Rockstar Energy Drink for a special promotion running from November 4, 2024, through January 31, 2025. By purchasing specially marked products and redeeming codes at DoritosDewRockstar.com, players can collect points to obtain special in-game content for titles like Diablo IV and World of Warcraft.

As previously showcased, Mountain Dew is reintroducing Game Fuel with two flavors: the returning Citrus Cherry and a new Citrus Blackberry flavor, honoring the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft. Look out for themed bottles featuring Thrall and Xal'atath, available in stores along with Doritos and Rockstar products, each featuring popular Xbox game titles.

Often it requires you to send in mail to participate, sometimes with very specific requirements (like the size of the letter etc.) but this varies.

There's many reasons why these kinds of sweepstakes are usually limited by country. Not because it wouldn't be possible to run elsewhere, but simply because the more countries are involved, the more complicated things get; and it's often just not worth it for companies to go through all the hassle of checking various laws, retaining experts in those laws to make sure everything is in order, deal with any litigation from various countries that might arise, etc.

Keep in mind that while "the EU" is a thing that exists and has its regulations, member nations also have their own regulations. So it's not nearly as easy as it sounds to just hold a sweepstakes "in the EU" because that's a ton of countries with distinct laws to consider.
There isn't a no purchase necessary since this isn't a sweepstakes. It is a giveaway where you use points earned to purchase items. Looks like the EU follows the same rules for that though, so no idea other than PepsiCo not wanting to set it up for the EU.

Pretty sure it is. Accumulating points is not something that makes this not a sweepstakes. In fact, the "Pepsi Stuff" promotional campaign from the 1990s (which involved collecting "Pepsi Points" to trade in for various things from a whole catalog of stuff) is one of the textbook examples of a sweepstakes appearing in various educational literature.

Sweepstakes requires there to be a chance to win the prize. The Pepsi Stuff promotion which is what I think you are talking about did have sweepstakes you could use your points to enter, but using the points to purchase the tshirts or other items such as the Jet which had a documentary about it, isn't a sweepstakes. It might be different how they are considered in the EU, but this video does a pretty good job of explaining it for the US.

There's loads of promotions I've seen here [Ireland] after purchases to claim a code for whatever.

Big example, them McDonald's Monopoly one.

    These are my feelings:

    - I am pleased for the US people who already consume Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Rockstar Energy Drink while playing WoW, because they will enjoy some extra cosmetics in their remaining (shortened) lifespan.
    - I am devastated for the US people who don't consume these products and feel the need to consume them now to get these cosmetics. Please sort out your priorities in life at your earliest convenience, if you wish.
    - I am terrified for the EU people who are experiencing FOMO as they would like to consume unhealthy products that are scientifically proven to shorten their lifespan, to get some cosmetics that they will never use in a videogame, but they can't. Please appreciate the fact that for once, frontiers are making your life better.
    - I am proud of those who, regardless of nationality, don't care to consume something they aren't already consuming to gain access to cosmetics that they will never use. If the world was made only of people like you, it would be an incredibly better world.

The McDonald's Monopoly promotion usually has a way to get peel tabs to be able to enter their promotions without purchasing anything. Sometimes by mailing a postcard with specific info or a code that is available for everyone to use on the website to enter.

Your point are eloquently put and 100% correct, as it the sentiment behind them.

HOWEVER, if this promotion would have been avaliable in the EU I would buy this crap, use the code and just throw the product away. That is always an option you know, consumption of this vile poison is not a requirment for the code redemption....

You do realize the product doesn't actually need to be consumed to gain the rewards, correct?

we do not have to drink it. we could buy it and give the drinks away.

But for me its more, that blizz is "giving" away several unique ( relatively easy) to get items. to 1 market. A market they do this more often for.

if you put most metrics per country you can find its around the same players for north america( inculiding mexico) vs china vs eu.
And if this was the first time. And only 1 thing...i would not mind. but this is the zillionth time.

Just like giving american comic con people items etc they can get.
    But gamescon germany gets squat.

Buisness wise...america is not the biggest player base.
