11.1 Raid Renown Feature Preview and Context

Hey folks, wanted to make a quick update concerning how the Raid Renown has changed per your feedback & some internal conversations:

  • In hopes of not burying the lede, the Puzzling Cartel Chip previously present at Ranks 17 & 19 on the track that allowed for purchase of Raid Items directly have been removed. However, it’s noteworthy that this feature isn’t intended to be gone from the Undermined Update entirely, just that they’re moving away from the 11.1 Raid Renown track. More details to come, so hang tight and we’ll have more to say on what’s becoming of them soon!
  • ‘Fixer-Upper’ Repair Stations previously present at Rank 5 have been removed. While this is the sort of thing that could end up being perfectly reasonable for certain raid layouts, much of Liberation of Undermine is already outdoors and mountable - not to mention the Rewards Card allowing you quick access to the Incontinental even when no engineers or repair mounts are available. Overall it just didn’t feel that satisfying, so they’re removed for now.
  • Raid Skip has been moved to Rank 5 (was Rank 8), now requires Mug’Zee to have been defeated on that difficulty (was any difficulty). We’ve heard a lot of feedback in both directions here - that 7 weeks would be too long for certain guilds that normally clear higher difficulties quicker, and the possible risks it could pose to late-stage Mythic Progression. As a result, we’re simply pushing this up sooner and making it a more traditional style of Raid Skip unlock/quest that you’re used to, with the tradeoff being you’re only required to kill Mug’Zee once per difficulty rather than multiple times. This is the sort of thing we could see evolving into something more robust one day, but for Raid Renown’s debut it feels safer and more appropriate to make it as close to the live raiding experience as possible rather than risk too much disruption at once.
  • Lastly, taking the Rank 8 and Rank 17 spots as a result of some of the previous rewards shuffling are two mounts - the Thunderdrum Misfire & the Darkfuse Chompactor. A reminder that this Renown will still be available with all of its rewards redeemable even after 11.1 is over, so non-raiders and collectors won’t have to lose out on the chance to collect cosmetics found within it just because they didn’t raid during the season.

Thanks for all of the feedback and discussion over the last few weeks, and we’ll see you in the Undermine!

They better not lock it behind raiding. A lot of people who dont want or cant raid, but can do everything else like M+ only enjoyers (myself).

If Season 2 appears to have another trinket situation like Spymasters, then they better let everyone get access to it and not require everyone to either PUG or buy HC boosts.

I don't mind gatekeeping it a while, but it better be avaliable after XYZ-amount of weeks or month~.

I mean going off what they said (However, it’s noteworthy that this feature isn’t intended to be gone from the Undermined Update entirely, just that they’re moving away from the 11.1 Raid Renown track) I would say that it's not going to be locked behind raiding.

Moving this to around the time when Hall of Fame closes would be nice.
A bit worried this will require a 12 weeks of bear asses now that it's off from the Raid Renown. Here's to hoping lessons have been learned.

I find it pretty funny that Blizzard removed a feature (raid reputations) and then they add it back in and people pat them on the back for having such a novel idea.

Are they patting them on the back for having a novel idea or for bringing them back? Because they’ve been gone a long while… they could have just not brought them back at all

At the risk of sounding a bit snarky, Blizz has a pretty sizable track record of removing things in the name of them being bad/dated/etc. only to reintroduce them again later as something good/new/etc. X and Y features are considered an issue and removed, which creates a problems where X and Y feature are eventually reimplemented in some way with the obligatory blue post 'back-patting themselves'. Chalk it up to forgetting lessons of the past, forgetting the feature/system they're removing was a solution to something else, or any number of reasons.

In some cases it's not necessarily a net negative/neutral that a feature gets removed and reimplimented, as a feature that gets iterated upon over the years can lose its purpose or become a bigger problem than the solution it's trying to fix. I'm sure everyone can think of a system or design choice that started out great or with good intentions, only to evolve into a monster over time because of all the changes made that stray from its original purpose.

Hopefully it's not but this doesn't mean that. This just means they realized having to wait until weeks 17 and 19 for dinars was stupid as fuck. It could still end up locked behind raid, but hopefully not.

The mounts being deep on the renown track makes sense, mounts are evergreen after all, but getting gear on weeks 17 and 19 of the season is so beyond absurd with so little time left for that gear to matter. It was good to get it off the renown track even if they do still lock it behind raiding. Hopefully they allow a way for M+ and Delve players to get it though.

Except this one is most likely going to be the opposite. But sure. Retail bad.

I'll collect bear asses or DRIVE or whatever if it means we can get [OP Raid Trinket] in the first two months rather than after 4.

Add Fixer Upper but give it a full exalted rep discount and that'd be plenty useful!
