Eligibility

To participate, you must link your Twitch account by visiting https://account.battle.net/connections. If you have changed your password or made any changes to your Twitch or Battle.net account, you will have to relink your accounts. When you relink, there will be a 7-day cooldown before you can relink a new Twitch account. After you’ve claimed your rewards on Twitch, please make sure you’re logging into the Battle.net region you’d like to receive the drop(s) on, as the first region you log into will be where your items will be delivered. It can take up to 24 hours to receive your reward(s) in-game after claiming. Read our Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.

Woo, yeah, artificially inflating twitch viewership numbers in return for another cosmetic item!

Wonder why this behavior is even allowed; you'd think streamers would object to it since it makes them wonder how many of their viewers are "real" and how many people are putting on a muted stream in the background to get free items in-game.

Yes, I'm sure the streamers that get a bump in ad revenue due to this are cursing the gods on the fact they get paid more for people who aren't adding to toxic commentary. How vile.

Who would it be prevented by? Twitch getting ad revenue? The streamers getting views?
The only people losing in this are the people getting their feefees hurt.

Don't understand why people get mad about these. The only negative is if you don't wanna make a Twitch account for some reason.

The only people who "lose" in these promotions are advertisers who think they are getting a view on their ad when it plays in a muted and minimised stream. Otherwise, it's beneficial to Blizzard, to streamers, and to players.

I mean, you can choose to advocate for the advertisers, but don't expect people to rally around you in agreement.

Either leave it running on your phone in the background while you're doing whatever on it [you can dual speaker play off your phone with volume at 1% and you use Bluetooth], or use a browser extention aptly named Twitch Drop to automatically claim stuff with volume set to 1% and have that running in the background.

Notice setting volume to 0% doesn't give progress towards claims.

Or just mute the tab and leave twitch volume untouched.

Yes, it does. Stream credit will bug out sometimes, and watching multiple streams will break it (or using third party apps to watch) will stop credit -- which is stated in the Twitch terms -- but you absolutely can mute the stream itself for credit. I have done every single Twitch promotion I've ever done, for any game, this way.

If you're that worried, just mute the tab, but you absolutely can mute the stream itself. You don't need to do anything weird or run with 1% volume.

Because the only kind of interaction in a stream is "toxic commentary"

    yeah

If I was streaming and saw 1000 viewers, only to find out that 95% of them are people who aren't actually watching and just have a muted stream in the background for free items ingame, it'd be kind of insulting.

Kinda funny to see people vehemently defending this too
leave the multi billion dollar megacorp alone you evil forum posters with your evil opinions!

It'll be fine. If they don't interact and just leave it muted, the difference is that it's just a different number. That's it.

Whether that translates to actual conversation is moot. But at least it got people to open up twitch and go out and find someone to "watch".
