A new Starcraft made by Microsoft Blizzard with no RTS devs from the past sounds horrible to me

It'll be a generic 7/10 Starcraft-like game that's sterile and flaccid like everything Microsoft puts out

I don't think people realize that when they're asking for it.

I can't see how a SC RTS game would be commercially viable in this day and age.

I have to think that whatever they're doing with SC, it must either be 1. some kind of remodeling of an old game, be it a mobile port, HD remaster, whatever; or 2. a SC game that isn't an RTS.

And look, Thrall black plate now actually look black, if only it was like this in the game and not alliance coded.

RTS are doing fine, the AGE games show that, and starcraft supposedly have a big fanbase, they would be viable IF blizzard don't aim to make billions and think that if not achieving that is a failure

I mean, literally no one has even put out an RTS worthy of any remembrance since SC2. Sure there are some that are fun for a playthrough and a bit of MP, but nothing with mass appeal like Starcraft and Warcraft had. I don't think anyone in Gen Z has even played a great RTS cause there just haven't been any nor has anyone really tried (there is Stormgate, the gameplay is decent, but it's been horribly managed and probably going to fail because a lot of terrible leadership decisions)

If they did it right. A super sharp SC3 with hit the right tone and combat. I think it would find an sizable audience. I'd be one of them. I love the Blizzard RTS games, but the RTS team that made the great ones is gone.

There was a lot of talk around when MS bought Blizzard that Phil really wanted them to make another Starcraft RTS, so I don't think it's off the table by any means, but I find the probability of that being great if made super low.

There were also rumors they were licensing the IP out to other studios. It could be anything with the IP and it could be multiple things.

The IP seems ripe for a Helldivers or Battlefield type game. I wouldn't be opposed to a Mass Effect or open space looter shooter either.

I don't think it'd be enough of an audience to warrant the investment. They would have to make back a LOT of money - I just can't see that happening anymore. RTS is a niche genre now. Not something a big-budget AAA game is likely to ever be financially successful enough in. Something like EoE4 sold what, 4 million copies or thereabouts? That may well not be enough for a Blizzard title like SC3. Even at a $70 premium price that's a mere $280m revenue, let alone profit. Not even close to what they'd be likely to spend on development and marketing, to say nothing of ongoing costs for infrastructure etc. And it'd be hard to see a much bigger audience, given how entrenched EoE is and how much of the market it's eaten in the years since big houses stopped making RTS.

I could well be wrong, of course. Blizzard knows this better than any of us. They have the numbers, and entire teams just doing projections. But I honestly can't see it happening in this day and age, not unless there's some groundbreaking twist to it. Maybe a combination game that's a single-player AARPG and a multiplayer RTS or something, idk. Something unexpected. But just an RTS? No way no how.

That's more likely imo. Looter shooter, RPG shooter, military shooter... those are all possibilities, as are hybrid variations. Much more viable market, particularly with the established MS Halo-type crowd on board.

A game inspired by Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2, but in either the Warcraft or Starcraft universes?

Taking short-sighted to a whole new level

Interesting they show Lilith, a character teased and then dropped in some hours of campaign story. What a shame.
