Midnight Preview: A First Look at the Void-Themed Devourer Spec
Join Jedith for an overview of Devourer, the new Void-themed Demon Hunter spec arriving with the Midnight pre-expansion patch.
No one is ever happy. Blizzard could, at Midnight, give eveyone a 4th spec, and people would still complain. I been wanting a clothy necromancer in wow for the longest. Definitely wouldn't complain if they put it as a 4th spec for warlock or something.
He's absolutely right. Once again, Blizzard is giving us things we didn't ask for. I think a bard class would have been more interesting, especially now that Sylvanas has a new bard spec

I'm still waiting for the hero classes I like...
You and Cynical have never really been bastions of good takes though. So I'm going to wait until another person can claim the sky is blue.
Please, Blizzard, make the list bigger. I know you can do it.
I think Survival is cool as hell and has fit with what they originally intended Hunter to be in vanilla. They just fucking sucked with the implementation. I had been wanting survival to be melee since 1.07 vanilla revamped the hunter tree getting rid of the melee focus entirely. I loved that shit in vanilla. But that said, I did not want a rotation where I had to micromanage a buff to do good damage. From the moment Legion launched and revamped Survival and I saw the awful awful Mongoose Bite and its various talents focus, I knew this was gonna play like ass. And it did. Reminded me of how Windwalker once was, another spec I hated. I always envisioned Survival to be warrior like but with a pet, bleeds, and traps. Simple and fun. But alas.
I do agree with you on the other specs though. I'm still amazed they didn't give DH a new form though for this spec. It looks hella cheap just having them as demons but with fel coloring now. But I guess Blizz is having their artists work on housing only now which is also why allied races still have no new customization since they launched a decade ago.

Bro you unironically just listed my favorite specs. Well you missed Outlaw Rogue and WW monk.

Nobody asked for a Bard class either, what's your point lmao. Blizzard shouldn't just add content/races/classes based on player feedback anyways.

Well, some folks DO ask for a Bard class, but as far as I followed the feedback, even more think it is stupid.
But I totally agree on the statement that devs should not (at least not always and in every case) add content based on feedback. I mean...feedback worked out for them with caving in and addin Classic for example.
I will definitely create a Void Eld Devourer, though this mix of melee / mid-range already sounds and looks a bit awkward. Already on my current DH, this leaping back has lead to awkward situations.

Yeah ofc player feedback is important and they should follow through on it, however they should also have the creative freedom to just add stuff to their game.
Usually the most popular class ideas are not original, but they are just classes from other games (like Bard) or something that kinda exists in the game as a subset of an existing class (like Necromancer). So if Blizzard would always just add what most people wished for (= basically "traditional" fantasy rpg classes), we'd never see anything truly unique or new like Evokers (Dractyr "controversies" aside, that's legit a very fun and unique class overall). Maybe even Shamans would never exist.
I have played this new Void Devourer specialization for over 25+ hours in the beta. Played Demon Hunter as a main character since the day they released and even did early Alpha testing for Demon Hunters, specifically Tanking/Vengeance. Void Devourer Spec is probably the worst spec in the game right behind the specializations from the Evoker class. It's that bad.
Void Devourer Spec is watered down garbage with no real life to it. It's designed to work with a Controller for Xbox console children. I can come up with about 3 better ways for this class to work more cleanly with a range/melee hybrid in mind.
12+ years ago this Void Devourer Spec would have never passed their internal testing. Evoker & Walmart Void Demon hunter is the best they can do? They have over 3 decades of Lore & characters to do some really cool stuff with and this is what they chose?
This is really showing the limitations & lacking skillset the current WoW team has. They really need to bring back the Sexist Degen's & the boob milk stealers to fix the game Blizzard. Stop all this Woke DEI grooming furry slop. Focus back on what made Warcraft awesome. The current team & leadership are clueless about what made WoW great to begin with. This expansion shows it yet again.

Let's be fair here man, that would be something to complain about. Necromancer deserves to be a full blown class, not a warlock skin. There are tons of cool ideas that could be incorporated into that class and I've wanted it to be added since Vanilla. I chose a warlock back then because it was the closest I could get to Necromancy.

Thats the only thing i like about the spec tbh. Gameplay sucks, but its basically the class skin we always hoped for. Yeah its just for one spec and tied to seperate gameplay, balancing etc. But at its core the reskinning of demonhunter spells is pretty dope.

You speak truth. That is why I play warlock as well. I wanted some kind of magickal class that gets as close as possible to a cloth necromancer. Warlock was the closest fit. But I really wish Blizzard would get off their lazy ass and make it happen. Would be the happiest day for me to see a full on cloth Necromancer in the game and not some DK knock off of it.

Been wanting a true cloth based, minion army, cult of the damned or scholomance like necromancer, something like that since Vanilla. And I would compromise it as a 4th spec for either mage warlock or even a Death Knight

These are the worst specs in the game, and the ones I hate the most... I keep waiting for things I like... but they never arrive... On top of that, we have a fake Warden armor, and without a chakram!... And everyone can use it! When it's something exclusive to Night Elves... Pathetic.
Cannot say I enjoyed Devourer in the beta. Such a blue balls spec; half the pulls you get just close to your collapsing star as the pull ends and you have to hope you rush to the next group before meta falls off and you waste all those fragments. I feel the rotation only really works well on bosses. Also too squishy.
