It would be more credible if she elaborated on what apocalyptic threat she and the Jailer might have been referring to. I wouldn't jeopardize my civilization based on some evil cackling villain suddenly saying "actually I am not bad! I am trying to save us all! Just trust me!"

Is this your own inference? That they are the same thing? I'm not seeing that stated or implied and want to be sure I'm not missing it because that would be important.
And Blizzard still chose Haranir over Ethereals as the expansions new race.
Did you watch the video? They bend the knee to Xal. Why would they join us right now?
I’m not opposed to Ethereals at some point, especially as we have now established connections more openly with them from TWW; but this video is not the one to bring up discussions as why we should have Ethereals as a playable race.

I don't think whatever THAT is is set in stone. Blizzard has proven with the whole Shadowlands story ("all those cool things? it was ME all along!") that they don't plan that far ahead.

I can't help but notice how child-Xal had a symbol around her neck that is VERY reminiscent of the Hallowfall Arathi's symbolism. Which makes me wonder if Xal is from alternate timeline Arathi or from the Arathi that the expedition left behind, and which ended up losing to the Void. Would also explain why she insisted an Elf replacement body...

In the same expansion that had Blood Elves join the horde their leader Prince Kael'thas goes mad and also does a bunch of crazy sht.
Also in WotlK, Death Knights break away from the Lich Kings influence and go their own way with new leadership.

Which is fine, but as I stated, this video doesn’t have anything to lend any credibility to Ethereals joining us, so it’s not really something to discuss in the way you did.
Had they resisted her or showcase another group against her then sure, but this is a video about them joining up with her.
I was just saying that Ethereals have more of a lore based reason to be the new race for Midnight than Haranir do. How they get there is another story. That Ethereals went from having a influence in TWW and now having a good tie to the events in Midnight.
Edit: I could say that not all Ethereals agree with the decision that their leader made and want to help fight against the Void and help free their friends and family from the poor choice that was made under extreme circumstances.

There'd have to be some timey-wimey stuff to explain how she's old enough to have been around for the Black Empire. Or something like, she retroactively considers the part of the Void that would eventually consume her / that she merged with to have always been her.
Either way, I wonder if it plays into how she seems more independent than the rest of the void. Like, even as a force of nature, Dimensius appeared to be sentient - yet we don't really see individuality in the Void the way we do with Xal, it's more something associated with the Shadow aspect of Void, like the Old Gods. Maybe there's a connection there. Like the Old Gods are Void + Death and Xal is Void + ... Life? Light?
Still so many questions and this only raises more without answering any. What was she trying to do with the Old Gods, how did she become leader of the Void / is she leader of the Void or just a faction of it, does she represent a shift in the Void's endgoal of consuming everything and then itself, etc, etc...
I don't imagine we get answers to all this before she's defeated.

The Arathi distinctly don't consider themselves elves, and she has round ears as a mortal. The planet likely just had sun/light-worship and a circle with lines coming out of it is a typical sun symbol.
That doesn't mean it can't change or some things are left vague. Even Metzen himself has alluded to this reality, where things are set nearly as much as we've been lead to believe. Pretty much everyone that was involved with Shadowlands is likely still working on this trilogy, and the largest change between now and then is that Blizz realizes they need to at least placate to players better than they had been up until that point. Sure, there have been some changes that were desperately needed in the game, but everyone should keep in mind it took scandals, plummeting player counts, and large player backlash to get Blizz to budge on even minor issues that should've been addressed years and years prior. Developers who need a major crisis to do something decent tend to not be great at following through once they feel like they've left the crisis behind them.

I mean she was also getting around when the Black Empire was a thing which, unless I'm misremembering the timeline, means she's well over one hundred thousand years old.
I feel like her having any ties to the Arathi are... unlikely.
