Update - Added today's blue posts (well, blue post) at the end of the post.

Zalazane's Fall and Operation Gnomeregan now on live servers
The first part of the Cataclysm prologue just started on live servers. Alliance player will find the Operation Gnomeregan event in Dun Morogh and Horde players should go to Durotar for Zalazane's fall. See the quest links below for more information.

Important - The events are fairly short and entertaining, I really suggest that you go play them on live servers instead of checking the screenshots.

This is a very fun questline, it's not too long and it's a pretty nice introduction to what will happen in Cataclysm! For more details on the quests please read:

You shouldn't need to farm a lot of gear before stepping into one. Keep in mind that feedback is going to be all over the place in a beta. Some players are heading into dungeons they know nothing about and getting frustrated when someone can't immediately explain the boss mechanics to them. Some just have no sense in investment since this isn't their "real" character (such irony). Some of the bosses are overtuned and some of the class abilities are undertuned at this stage. Because Uldum and Twilight don't have quest rewards yet, there are also some folks who are just really undergeared. Half your glyphs probably don't work. The new enchants aren't readily available. And so it goes. That sort of thing will all get ironed out over the next several weeks.

You shouldn't have huge mana problems in a normal dungeon. Your middle heal should get you through most of it just fine. You'll have to use more of your emergency heals in the heroics and raids, and you'll also be expected to gear up a little more for the heroics and raids. In Burning Crusade, players went and finished the Shadowmoon quest lines or got their reps to Exalted or maxed out their trade skills in order to have the best gear available for the heroics and raids. That is our model for Cataclysm. (Source)

Blizz does most things for a reason, Blizzcon being pushed back til October? Well it wouldn't be very exciting if they had Blizzcon and said Cata will launch in... 3 months. No I expect Blizzcon will be something along the lines of an announcement that the launch of the pre-cata patch is imminent, and retail launch maybe one month later.

Oh pleeease, give me a break kid.

They're not forcing you to repeatedly kill one single mob for a week straight before you're *allowed* to enter a dungeon (or be revered like the old model to run heroic versions). They're bringing back the model that should have been implemented at the BEGINNING of WoTLK, which is run dungeons and finish quest chains, then run heroics until you're finally geared out for raids. It's called progression, and for those of you who were babied by the accessibility of WoTLK, toughen up. I'm sure Blizzard will implement badge loot that jumps tiers of content just like last time, you just have to wait until the next patch release (when they'll probably nerf heroics, anyway).

Besides, what so few of you WoTLK new-comers realize, is how easily CC will negate any difficulty increase. I personally run with a prot warrior, a warlock, boomkin and either myself healing on my paladin, or myself dpsing on my mage while another friend runs his priest, shadow or disc, respectively. That's fear/seduce, cyclone/roots, stun/sheep and when it calls for it, shackle. If we have any problems whatsoever, it'll be due to our warrior going ape shit thinking he can AoE tank everything like he did last expansion (a problem I can see happening in the RDF very early on).

    Ok.

    1) People are not used to "quest chains" anymore. In Cata, every zone is a big single quest chain. So by finishing a zone, you have probably got yourself to honored/revered. Just sayin'. Unlocking dailies and you are nearly at 80% of your work.
    2) Tol Barad rep gives you epic trinkets and starter blue weapons. This means from 80 to 85 you should Join tol barad and try to get yourself to complete as most dailies as you can.
    3) Heroics will grant you starter equipments for raids
    4) Remember about professions and starter epics
    5) Dont forget about Emblmem also.

It will be fairly easier, but a little bit harder and "calculated" than in WOTLK. I will actually feel like a journey

patch 3.9/4.0 will be by the end of this month

i wouldn't judge this by the state of beta because:

    1. internal builds are numerous and way ahead

    2. they still have 4+ weeks to polish things for cata release once patch 3.9/4.0 comes out

I read it as "Zalazane's Fail"

Tom Chilton said "3.9 or whatever that patch is numerically designated". And yet World of Raids summary of that interview stated "Patch 3.9 will be the pre-release patch." My guess based on what has happened so far and by Tom Chilton's statement is that we will not have a 3.9 patch and that 4.0 will be the big patch that we are used to seeing before an expansion.
I thought they had said they wanted to roll out Cataclysm talents/gear changes right before Cataclysm or did that change?

Anyone remember how long it was between the dark portal event and BC release?

Right around a month if I remember correctly.

Training and planting spy frogs..? What am I, 6 years old? If this is a prologue for Cata maybe it's time for me to move on after 3 years. The game has become increasingly silly and childish. At least we didn't have to kiss the frogs. This time.

You know, you don't sound very mature for someone who is trying to act like it.

This isn't the prologue for Cataclysm. If you followed this site at all, you would certainly know that this is just the first set of events.

And I'd suggest actually completing the event, if you have a character over level 75.

Really? That sounds a hell of a lot like Blizzard's model for Wrath heroics...

Watch out for those cannons they hit really hard. Anyhow the Operation Gnomeregan was fun, but the payoff was a bit lacking especially compared to Zalazane's.

Back to grinding rep so we can get into 5 mans to grind those too.

I'll just cancel until mid next year when the massive nerfs come to everything because the WotLK player base quits over the illusion of challenge added by pointless tedium.

The two events, while nice, werent as good as the events leading up to bc and wrath.

I liked the world pvp farming EPL when wrath was coming out

thought the over cloaks would be AS intended by now... not the shitty grey item cloaks from PTR... but you know OVER cloaks, that were promised to go on top of your chosen cloak.

hopefully the next patch (Where we get the new trees to play with before cata) will.. have something decent... probably not.

    hurry up cata !
