IRVINE, Calif., Oct 04, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that World of Warcraft(R): Cataclysm(TM), the highly anticipated third expansion for the world's most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game*, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for Windows(R) XP/Windows Vista(R)/Windows(R) 7 and Macintosh(R) at a suggested retail price of $39.99 and will also be offered as a digital download from the Blizzard Store. A special Collector's Edition packed with bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores for a suggested retail price of $79.99.

"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It's not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers, we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."

The first two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade(R) and Wrath of the Lich King(R), each shattered PC game sales records upon their release.* In Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now been reshaped by the devastation and filled with new adventures. In an effort to survive the planet-shattering cataclysm, two new playable races — worgen and goblins — will join the struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. As players journey to the new level cap of 85, they'll discover newly revealed locations, acquire new levels of power, and come face to face with Deathwing in a battle to determine the fate of the world.

The beta test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is currently underway. Visit the official Battle.net(R) website at http://www.battle.net to set up a Battle.net account and sign up for a chance to participate. If you cancel now you can save $30 on the expansion and not participate in the live beta.
30 ? First of all it's 39,99 Dollars for you , and for us 34,99 Euro.

And in my case it would be 69,99 euro since I only order Collector edition ^^

Regardless of what it costs, you'd theoretically save 30 dollars by not playing WoW for the next two months, which was his point. When 4.0 hits, balance is going to be completely screwed, and without any new content and without the new race/class combos, there's really nothing to amuse people after they spend a few days getting their spec and glyphs set. Hence the reference to paying for open beta.

there's probably actually thousands of people that have cancelled their subscriptions until Cataclysm, so Blizzard IS actually taking a noticeable hit. might not still be a huge deal, but definitely noticeable. And I'm sure they'd much rather have kept all those subscriptions and should be learning a lesson from this.

And there are "probably" actually thousands who have joined since those people quit (assuming there are any statistics to support such a statement). I understand the motivation for people to leave temporarily (and, don't kid yourself, it is temporarily), but the pain Blizzard is feeling from losses in the thousands (especially offset by newcomers) is comparable to a papercut.

Blizzard knows their fans want the next expansion. As creators of the work, they are just as excited to show it to us. They also know they need to take their time and release a polished, finished product.

What new players? Last new player i saw was 7 months ago and he quit.

My server is a ghost town finding pugs has been a pain. And my healing que is now taking well over a minute (used to be less than 30 sec). Honestly beta right now if full of bugs and most beta testers don't think a Dec 7 release is a good thing. They are pushing this date cause activision wants it so and blizz wants a holiday bonus.

Wow Blizzard's legal statement about the launch date is longer than the Press Release about the Launch date itself.

For the person who was trying to pass Ruby Sanctum off as content it reminds me of what's said in the last few secs of this video.

They need better milestone management at that company. They're far too slow, and their content is never "done when it's done", there's always lots of bugs/glitches/crashes/etc. We need to expect more for our money these days, not less.
What makes my head spin, is the fact that you post on a forum about WOW at all. Go find a girlfriend, get an education, work out, do something usefull with your time. Complaining about a game that you obviously hate and wont play is the most self hating thing i can think of.

Well let's hope the Collector's Edition which will probably have a vanity pet doesn't include the faff around we had to do for TBC pet. I never got mine because I didn't want to pay to send my receipt off to France for an item that SHOULD have been included within the pack! Sort this out Blizzard else I ain't buying one.

I also have to say that 4 of my friends had also bought Collector's Editions of both the original and TBC, and none of them will be buying Cataclysm Collector's Edition (that's even if they decide to buy Cataclysm full stop) because of your poor Customer Services. Why should we have had to pay for posting and arrangements for something you did wrong?

I hope you learned your lesson.

Here's a little something I made for Cataclysm:

Remember, remember the Seventh of December,
    The Expansion Chaos and Disaster,
    There is no zone
    Where the Twilight Hammer
    Should ever be shown.
    Deathwing, Deathwing, t'was his intent
To leave the citizens of Azeroth in lament.
From the Elemental plane he has awoken
    To scar the land and leave it broken;
By the hand of the lands best
He shall be slain and laid to rest.
Holla boys, Holla boys, let our defenses stand.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, adventurers save the land!
And what should we do with him? Destroy him!

Wall-o-text incoming. It's not that good, so don't bother. TL;DR - No release date would make everyone happy. No one is forcing us to play if you don't like it anymore.

If you're still posting on a WoW fan site and keeping up with WoW news, you don't be gone for long if you quit. I love how people want to announce to everyone that they're quitting the game. They claim Blizzard has been ruining the game for years and they're money hungry, having their strings pulled by Activision. Yet you continue to care about the game, enough to check this website daily. Playing a game that you apparently hate, or reading every piece of news that comes out about it makes no sense. At least be rational and say that you don't like the direction the game is taking, but you'll see how cata works out.

No matter when they release this expansion, people will complain. Most WoW players (that post on forums anyway) are very negative. You find the worst in everything they do. Admit that you'll never be satisfied. It's not Vanilla anymore, get off your pedestal...we get it, you are original players. Either they release it "too early" based on what you're seeing on a beta. The amount of bugs can be stomped out in two months. The beta client is likely a couple builds behind what they have internally. If they pushed the game into next year, you'd complain "omg, another 3 months of icc! wtf blizz", like you're forced to play the game or run ICC again. Either way, Blizzard is the evil big company that's out to screw everyone.

They don't care if you have finals, they don't care if it's too close to the holidays for you. You're buying it regardless. Don't assume that every company gives a long holiday break and that the offices will be empty if there's an issue. The worst type of complainers are the ones that do it for no reason. We post on WoW forums...the majority of us are buying Cataclysm no matter what we say.

If you don't enjoy the game, simply quit. No one is forcing you to stay. I had to take a break for over a year in order to enjoy the game again. Nothing wrong with that. If you've killed LK, why grind ICC for 8 more weeks? Take a break. Playing content you no longer enjoy is insane. Doing something you're not enjoying just because you want to play this game. There's some amazing looking games coming out before Dec 7th.

I'm not talking crap about anyone. I just don't understand all the negativity, when the solution is so simple.
