Patch 4.2 - Firelands Raid Preview
Yesterday you had a sneak peek at the Firelands Daily Area, it's time to take a look at the only thing you all want to see: the Firelands Raid instance!

Just like the daily area, it's a little hard to gather a lot of information about it because the instance isn't even supposed to be in this PTR patch but hopefully the couple of screenshots/maps below will be enough while you wait a few more months (you could probably count in weeks, Patch 4.2 won't be far behind Patch 4.1) before you see it on live realms.


Firelands Raid - Encounters
According to the Blizzcon 2010 Raids & Dungeons Panel, the Firelands raid will have 7 bosses. We already know 3 of them from achievement icones:


  • Fandral Staghelm, former Archdruid of Darnassus.
  • Alysra, the green drake in charge of transporting Fandral to a safe location at the end of the Hyjal questlines in Cataclysm. (Note: Just because there's an icon related to Alysra doesn't mean it's really a boss, in the case of Valithria Dreamwalker the goal of the encounter was to save her)
  • Ragnaros the Firelord, that one isn't really a surprise, right? And he's so pretty now!

Disclaimer - These screenshots are from an early beta of the zone and are not representative of what you will be able to experience on live servers. Live servers will have a polished zone with monsters, tons of decorative elements, etc ... Anything that moves is basically not on these screenshots.







PvP Video - Reckful 3
If you ever watched PvP videos you probably know who Reckful is, Reckful 3 was released yesterday and I strongly suggest that you watch it, even if you don't like PvP that much in the first place.





Blizzard Retrospective Video
If you didn't watch the Blizzard retrospective video posted on the official site yesterday because you didn't have time or didn't feel like watching it, it is now available on Youtube. I think a lot of people didn't realize it's a huge 48 minutes documentary and if you ever played a Blizzard game, you'll like it.

    Oh I know some people do, but Boub was recommending it to everyone, even if they don't like PVP... I didn't find it that interesting though...

    I was at least expecting some kind of explanation or something CRAZY so that anyone would understand, but it just seems like an ordinary PVP video with music (which, honestly, I had to mute - although I did check around to see if there was any explaining/stuff)...

    /shrug

    The Firelands Raid looks amazing though ^^ Reminds me of Oblivion though...

    Well, probably it's because many people don't see all the things he does. He is an amazing rogue no doubt but all the things he got going makes it very hard to see everything that is going on. Watch his control movie where he explains in detail how he plays and then I believe you will enjoy his new movie alot more.

    Yeah, I think it's a safe bet that this Aranae is probably a spider-like boss. Guess fire elementals can take many forms.

    Fire Maexxna perhaps? I wonder if it'll be like the magma spider Phantom from Devil May Cry.

    Well, OBVIOUSLY we would have turned into a boss, one way or another. Ysera already mentioned in Hyjal that Fandral's change of location during the invasion of the Twilight Hammer Clan up there not the wisest decision was.
    So really, no one should be surprised if he would have breaken loose and end up as a boss.

    Watched it for about 30s and then terminated the application. BTW, I wouldn't call the background noise "music" in the first place :S

    I love the Blizzard Retrospect Video. It's great to see the guys behind the curtains. And listen to their stories. They put so much of their life and love in the game, I wonder how they feel when nothing returns but QQ.

    So... I'm guessing the raid layout is something like this:

    Sulfuron Keep: Entrance
    Sulfuron Keep Courtyard: Boss 1
    Mortal's Demise: Boss 2
    Aranae's Lair, Shatterstone, Flamebreach, Anthricyst plateau: Boss 3-6 (optional order)
    The Molten Fields: Ragnaros spawns here when all are dead.

    Judging by the layout of the Firelands raid, I seriously hope we're going to be able to use ground mounts here.

    If there was going to be another raid with Firelands, I'm pretty sure Boub would have found out by now, he's really good at figuring that stuff out and letting everyone know. Also, every raid tier doesn't have to have 13 bosses, T9 only had 5.
    IF that raid isn't in the game files yet, nothing can be datamined.

    And mind I remind you: 5 Bosses for T9 was bad. B A D. I hope they never do something like this again.

    1) Firelands looks awesome. Especially this wicked-looking spidery ceiling, I can't wait to wipe underneath it

    2) The Reckful video was extremely uninteresting for me. But then, I've never played a rogue, and I don't play that much PvP. Still find it strange that it would be posted on the front page as "news"... but I guess Reckful and Boub are "buddies" or something.

    3) The Blizz Retrospective video was interesting in a super nerdy kind of way The Samwise Didier pictures from the 90's made my day ^^

    WOW, a number of people always manage to find something to QQ. No one forces you to watch something you don't like. PVP is a part of this game, it is nice for the site to link some pvp videos from time to time.

    I never read comics sections / Blizzard art releases or watch mmo report from this site. But I understand there are tons of ppls love them.

    why all the dragons are looks like the same? over 20 dragons in whole WOW are the clons of each other... not enough fantasy, not enough fantasy. game designers are empty for a new ideas.

    I like sometimes look some PVP videos, but that one are insanely boring. Maybe guys have great skills in pvp, but very very low on making video.
