Cross-Realm Dungeon Feature Coming Soon

Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

'Fanboys' aren't asleep -- remember the outcry regarding RealID and the forums overhaul? How Blizzard originally wanted to show people's real names on the forums every time they posted? The outcry for that was so loud that national media outlets were picking up on the story, and Blizzard backed down after a few days.

Also look at the outpouring of dissent so far in the comments, and this story only being posted minutes ago. Yeah. NO ONE is asleep here.

I was interested till like others I noticed the "premium" bit... meh, as cool as it would be to group with my sister (since she's one of few people I know on other servers who still plays) it's not something I'd pay extra for, WoW has been enough of a money drain for me over the past 6ish years.

For years people have been saying that the only thing that will destroy WOW is Blizzard themselves, and with all of this hands out for money little gimmicks it's exactly heading that way. Yeah I bet being able to send BOA's to other realms will require a fee to.

if you can pay for that premium service you might aswell just pay for a realm transfer and in the long run it may even be cheaper...

I don't have a problem with most premium services or the Blizzard store. But, I unfortunately can't get behind this one. This one should be free. Not like all these complaints on MMOC will actually affect Blizzard's profit. It's fun to read them though.

I have a question for all those who are jumping ship and saying that this is the end of Blizzard and all that.

    1) How is this being a paid service in any way going to effect your day to day gameplay from how it was before?

    2) "So I can play with my real life friends.... But I have to pay....." This is not a new concept, it's a concept which has been around for years now, it's called a Paid Character Transfer. If you want to play with your friends free of ALL costs, reroll.

    3) This is not a primary service (It's not the normal LFD tool which they are charging for, nor is it the Auction House, or Guild Chat as a "Premium service", but secondary features, which do not effect the course of your day to day gameplay, only enhance it. They are not butchering the game removing services that were there before, and inhibit normal gameplay to add a "premium" service to it, no, these are features you would not otherwise notice were there if you didn't know about them, and or purely cosmetic (like pets, and mounts).

    Really?
Being able to group with friends on other servers isnt possible, you know whats possible?
    Reroll.
But people dont want to do that.
So people server transfer, for a fee.

Creating this as a free service would be fucking stupid.
Only 1 player needs to have this sub, which is likely to cost close to nothing just like the remote AH etc.
And then you can play with people you are not supposed to play with, since well, they are on an completely other server!

    You dont like it?
    Sure, dont use it.
Server transfer or reroll instead, wanna bet which is more time-money effective?
    Thought so.
You're trying hard, but I guess the majority is with me on this matter. And btw, if you still didnt get the massive amount of defense of the community, you'll probably realize when Blizzard starts to bomb us with more premium features in 5-6 months, instead of, you know, releasing content for what we paid already.

How about logging into your EU account and actually post on battle.net forums instead of letting the tears flow on mmo-champion where not a single Blizzard Employee notices the rivers of Babylon

We chose to go with the subscription-based model instead of that approach. We've taken the approach that we want players to feel like it's a level playing field once they're in WoW. Outside resources don't play into it -- no gold buying, etc. We take a hard line stance against it. What you get out of microtransactions is kind of the same thing and I think our player base would feel betrayed by it. I think that's something else you have to decide on up-front instead of implementing later.

I'm feeling betrayed about every other month these days.
