Update - Added Press Conference Video and fixed "Whack-a-Gnome" ... Apparently, that's "Whack-a-Gnoll" .... Too bad. The guy who gave me that info will be quickly fired!

Also, Transmogrification will have a lot of restrictions when it's first released, check out this blue thread for more information (I'll get everything on the front page soon)

Patch 4.3 Press Conference Video
The entire video of the press conference is finally online! Watch it on own3D in HD. The World of Warcraft stuff starts around 19:00

Patch 4.3 Interviews - Updated
Interviews keep hitting the web and we now know a few more things thanks to the interviews on Kotaku, Gamona.de, and Buffed.de!

New Raid
  • Deathwing raid will be the final raid of the expansion.
  • You will even get to ride on Deathwing's back during the fight, apparently to take him down over multiple phases.
  • The project for an Abyssal Maw is gone for the moment, the storyline wasn't convincing enough/fitting.

5-Man Instances
  • 3 new 5-man instances will be added in this patch.
  • One of the instance will be in the Caverns of Time, for the War of the Ancients

Transmogrifier (Preview below)
  • The Transmogrifier NPC, which will let you change the appearance of any armor piece on you, while retaining the stats of your current gear. (= T12 stats, but with the Tier 2 look!)
  • Players won't be able to change the appearance of their armor into another armor type or class armor set, and you might have to own the armor before you can use it to swap the appearance of your existing armor.

Void Storage
  • The Void Storage is a new type of bank where players will be able to store their old armors in order to free up space in their regular bank.
  • It will hold 100-150 items. Anything stored there will lose all gems and enchantments.

Raid Finder
  • The Raid Finder will be introduced in Patch 4.3, it will work like the Dungeon Finder.

Darkmoon Faire
  • There will be a new Darkmoon Faire island with a bunch of new activities such as "Whack-a-Gnome" "Whack-a-Gnoll" (Sorry gnomes!)

Patch 4.3 Preview - Transmogrification
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
You’ve been asking for it, and we were listening. In patch 4.3 you’ll be able to customize the appearance of your weapons and armor like never before.

The Ethereals, emerging from the nether, will bring with them a new technology they call Transmogrification. They’re heading to the capital cities of Azeroth to set up shop and to offer adventurers a unique service -- copying the appearance of one magical item onto another. They only ask for a modest gold donation to recoup their costs.

Visiting a Transmogrifier will present players with a new interface that will allow them to change the appearance of an item while retaining its original stats. This means that you can raid in your paladin tier 12 Immolation set, but look like you’re wearing Lightbringer, while priests can bring Benediction back -- at least in spirit. Hunters can once again roam the jungles of Stranglethorn Vale in their tier 2 Dragonstalker set. You could even slip into the saucy tailored Black Mageweave set for that matter. You know, with the thigh highs, and the little gloves, and the cute little… ahem.

Placing an item into the Transmogrifier interface will offer a preview of how the item will appear once the change is applied. However, not all item pairings are compatible with Transmogrification. In general, only items that have stats can be used in the transmogrification process. You must also be able to wear both items when using this service. Ethereals don’t have much in the way of ethics, but allowing someone to appear as if they’re equipping unusable items crosses the line. Similarly, they won’t allow you to change weapon or armor types. Sneaky death knights can’t make that breastplate look like a cloth robe, and you can’t make a one-handed axe look like a two-handed axe, or transform a sword’s appearance into that of a mace. Guns, bows, and crossbows will be the exception to this rule. You will finally be able to retain your dwarf’s racial gun bonus while appearing with all the splendor and elegance of a bow wielder (or at least the relative silence of one).

Placing items into the Transmogrify interface will increase the gold cost of the process, and clicking the Transmogrify button (assuming you have the necessary funds) will put the appearance change into effect. The process can be reversed by clicking the undo icon on each item, and then hitting the Transmogrify button once more to save the changes. Any item that’s transmogrified will have text indicating it’s been altered by the process for all to see, similar to the item tooltip callout for reforged items.

Transmogrification encourages players to hold onto items with sentimental or aesthetic value, and the Ethereals anticipate that personal bag and bank space will be at a premium now that everyone will be hoarding their frilly pantaloons and leather jerkins. In anticipation of this new demand for additional storage space, they’ll be introducing a unique Void Storage service. What’s Void Storage, you ask? We’ll provide more details soon.

We’re looking forward to seeing how players choose to customize their character’s appearance, and hope you’re as excited as we are for the arrival of patch 4.3 and the Transmogrification feature. Do you have a favorite set or weapon that you’ll be bringing back? Let us know in the comments below.

I guess its how you look at it:

    BC
    Levels: 10
    Dungeons: 16
    Raid Bosses: 51

    Wrath
    Levels: 10
    Dungeons: 16
    Raid Bosses: 45

    Cata
    Levels: 5
Dungeons: 11 (2 of which are old content redone) so 9, add the 3 new ones and total of 12
    Raid Bosses: 22

As the numbers show the content is far far behind previous expacs, unless you think the last raid instance will have 23 bosses...

Well this all sounds nice plz blizz dont like add cool shit in then make it just boreing like old teir sets are boreing...ive already had them all and raided in them. Like go all thway if you gonna add in cool features what ppl want is to copy their like world holiday stuff (santa hats, pumkin on face.....all the actually crazy cool stuff.....legendaries) all of that stuff wont be able to be copies so like WOOT i can either wear this NEW skined t12 stuff or i can go back to wearing the gear i wore 3 years ago....let us use gear we never could use before cuz they had like LULZ value and not actual stat value. Really just let use wear santa hats or like cooking hats in raid without being punshied would be nice.

What you forgot to add: they revamped the whole game from zero to 60, sure its not raid bosses but its content. I did my lore master with the cata expansion and it was awesome levelling through all the old zones. For the amount of work that went into the 0-60 experience i would say this was the biggest expansion ever

Am I the only paladin who will wear RECOLORED T2 set instead of standard one? :>Also, this may slightly change the game in battlegrounds/arenas, people can no longer look at someone and say what gear=resi they have.

As you so ably pointed out, 0-60 was a revamp, not an expansion. Look the two words up and hopefully you will be able to understand that they are completely different things. This was an expansion pack not a revamp pack... so only actual expansion of content is what we are talking about. I guess in your world you think because they changed the color of the raptor eggs you have to collect in the Barrens from purple to red that counts as expanded content... unfortunately I do not.

I think that's the fastest expansion right here.

Something good will come out of this, if everyone in raid use t1/2 gear, you will be able to raid 25m on 2Ghz, 1GB ram, 128mb GPU. Older configuration players might consider raiding now.

anyone know if itll be possible to change 1handers appeareance from a sword to lets say a fist weapon? These 2 babies http://www.wowhead.com/item=32945 http://www.wowhead.com/item=32946 with the current firelands heroic set would look simply A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

All this sounds like an April Fools joke, I mean, too good to be true. But, we will see.

Based on what we know right now it is unlikely, as they said that you can't change weapon types with exceptions of ranged weapons. Still they might allow something like that later. I can't see a problem with limiting it to a one handed weapon can only trade looks with another one handed weapon, regardless of type. Same with 2-handed weapons. So you could do what you are proposing, or make the dagger look like a sword. Or for 2-handers, make the 2h axe look like a polearm. Just keep the restriction that the gear you are pulling the appearance of is still something that your character can actually equip.

One thing I wish they would do is in the dungeon finder give us the option to go back and do old dungeons and lower lvl dungeons.

kewl ill change my cata staff to look like the staff of the sin'dorei from SWP and the fist weapons that a'lar drop in TK to replace my shammies current fists
  1. ChuckUFarley's Avatar
I heard from someone that they may not allow this on PVP gear. I hope that's not true, because all I wear is PVP gear, and I've been farming Bloodfang on my rogue and Valorous T7.5 on my shaman so that I can make my PVP gears look cool like the old sets.

I have been playing WoW a few weeks after its initial release, how long is that, six years ? And its always the same, people complaining complaining complaining, including myself you know - BUT - we still play it. We leave the game....and after a few weeks we return !!!! what is it with this game ? If its only just me, then its explainable since i am totally weird, but I have seen this happeneing to so many friends I made since the begining that now I am sure that there is something which I can't fathom in this game that make people return to it ? Already I recieved E mails from friends planning thier return - especially many vets who still have hard earned gear from Vanilla they want to raid with again - Yes Blizzard - Transmogrifying is an excellent idea and I dont agree that gears should be easily available for players - you will only get a sense of achievement if something is worked for rather then being given away or purchased. Yes I agree - if u want to have a certain piece of gear - work for it - make it mean something for you. Blizzard don't give them away like peanuts. I myslef would have to go back to some old dungeons to get some older sets which i already had many years ago - infact I have already went and I am actually enjoying myself re-visiting the old dungeons Good job Blizzard - but - one thing you HAVE TO DO imo, re-do the old avatars - they seriously need a re-make - and pls do it sooner rather then later. Thanks

Don't forget that this is also the 1st expansion to only have 5 lvls in it so I guess it only has half the instances because their arnt as many lvls.
(Plus the needed revamp) Im still expecting the next exp. by mid to late summer next year.

    World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Half the levels, half the content, same time frame, same price. Sounds like a great deal to me!

Hmm...I dont know how much I like that fact that if I would for example take the Skullstealer Greataxe wich I have at the moment, and try to mog it into Ashkandi, I wouldnt be able to do that. I kinda hope they will make the same exception there as with guns/bows/crossbows.
