WoW Lost 800k Subscribers, down to 10.3M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 800,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 300k subscribers announced last quarter and 600k loss from the quarter before that. This brings us to 1.7 million subscribers lost in the last 3 quarters. Some things they made note of on the call:

  • Most of the subscriptions were lost in China.
  • There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December.
  • The decreased profit came from all of the games in development and no launches occurring.
  • There will be at least two major releases next year.

On a serious note, I would love to see how they are coming up with all these numbers.

You do understand that gold farmer accounts are US & EU based right? Probably not...

If they had Chinese accounts they wouldn't be able to sell anything to US/EU.

Feedback on WoW on a non-Blizzard site? Yeah sounds legit.

Send them an e-mail or a rabid ferret in a box if you really want, but coming here on MMO champ complaining won't produce anything. Even if there are 100k active users here (throwing random numbers) still it's only a small fraction of WoW players and not the total.

Probably you whiners are too busy with your doomsday prophecies and nerdrage moments to realize that:
    - you are just a vocal minority (most WoW players don't even know what MMOchamp is)
    - coming here is useless

The result you're producing is only to ruin the people's day. Which is impressive if you're a troll - so you're not giving any feedback in any case.

But no I'm sure you're right.
Though to be fair, for someone playing it's a win either way, as bored players are just as destructive to the ingame environment as pink-gogglers.

"There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December" - I think that gonna be a decrease this December cause Star Wars online, the feedback of SWTOR sounds great atm...and ppl was getting bored too with WoW, we want something new.

That's awesome. Now I can rezz those movement-impaired, overgeared yet underperforming raid members from even further away, as if it would make a difference...

Sorry not buying their just Chinese gold farmers. I've seen too many people on my server quit before I unsubscribed. But it's a nice story to try to calm the masses.

What about the Diablo 3 contract ? In my personal opinion, they will gain subs. Are the major release are related to WoW or Blizzard product in general ?

I think if people think Blizzard are surprised by this they're fools. The MMO market is actually becoming competitive, until now Blizzard have had no challenge

The only reason why I still play, for now, is that I'm waiting on transmog and MoP. In the meantime I'm playing the AH and making some good money for all the alts I have to take care of.

You do realize that you only have to pay a 1 month sub fee to play, right?

that logic is all wrong. more than 1.7 mil left, probably a lot more. it has always been countered by gaining subscriptions. this has been on a decline, such that the upkeep is too high to gain subscribers. blizzard gains subscriptions that would fling other games into wild popularity, and shrugs off subscriptions that would cause any other company to close down shop and declare bankruptcy.

as for myself, i think if you tried to round up all the vanilla players on any old server you'd find it difficult to fill even a 25 man guild. i have one lone friend left from those days on one of the oldest servers around. regardless, whether this game had 2-3 million subs or 12 million, i never actually felt my own experience of the game change, at all. it changes by my will, not by the number of people leaving.

As long as it's profitable WoW won't die. Even if it's going to end up being easy for kindergarten kids BUT STILL bring profit it won't die. If it stops to bring profit - boom, headshot.

People have to see that, not everyone is leaving to play something else. I have a friend that is leaving because he got bored yes, but he's not planning on playing anything else yet. He just wants to chill and take some time off of mmos.

The thing is that many players lose interest with the slow releases and the biggest problem I think its that the new players have to pay like 100 euros or more to start for Classic , BC , WoTLK , Cataclysm and next year MoP this will be alot of cash to start one game. And what it will be after 10 years with 10 expansions you should have to pay like 300-400 euros to start playing lol .

The game is free to start...

They probably had no good methods to farm in Cataclysm, and thus they quit. Stupid gold farmers
