WoW Lost 800k Subscribers, down to 10.3M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 800,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 300k subscribers announced last quarter and 600k loss from the quarter before that. This brings us to 1.7 million subscribers lost in the last 3 quarters. Some things they made note of on the call:

  • Most of the subscriptions were lost in China.
  • There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December.
  • The decreased profit came from all of the games in development and no launches occurring.
  • There will be at least two major releases next year.

The game became so accessible with the dungeon finder that you can rush all the content in 2-3 evenings, thus it got very boring over the time and the slow pace at which blizzard are adding new content.... Just look at how much time it takes them to release 4.3, I activated my account a couple of months ago after I heard about 4.3 features, but this waiting... I cancelled it again, and now what they will launch 4.3 several days before swtor releases, guess what I will be playing then, everything is soooo slow when it comes to blizzard...

You will still be classed as active, as you are still able to log in and play - you are just informing them of your intention to cancel (and you can change this if you wish).

Once your game time is up, then you'll be showing on the cancelled pile.

    ......I think

For me it is getting to the point of the new content being fun for like a month of two then getting the nerf hammer hard and still out classing older content. Then you have the new dungoens making anything pre 4.3 obsolete. It just takes away from alot of the fun of it all. Honestly right now in wow unless you raid heriocs, there is not much left that is worthwhile to do, even farming....

Cata has a lot more to offer in terms of difficulty than Wrath did and yet still people leave, the game is old and Blizzard didnt really change anything this expansion, archeology is a freaking joke, tol barad was a total mess, dailies grinding over and over and over......... And no the LFG system didnt kill WoW either, nobody knows how the game would look if it wasnt implemented (me neither). Stop claiming that x y z is responsible when in reality you guys dont know jack ****..................yes...........flying mounts also cost 1,7 players to quit now stop whining!
Had to quote this for being one of the few posts I found that wasnt full of insanity. People need to learn to not only question blizzard and the people around them but they need to start questioning their own thoughts because people are wrong all the time including me this is part of being a human. Stop taking your own crazy thoughts more serious than other people's crazyness!
What I am interested is a lot more data to interpret for example how many new subscribers come compared to people leaving over a long period of time and during what times most people leave etc. THEN when you actually have a lot more data it would start to make sense to interpret it. Currently all we know for sure is that subscriptions are going down especially in china and everything else is mostly personal obsessions shaping your reality.

Nothing huge or unique has happened in WoW for a long time.I quit 3 months back and the upcoming expansion doesn't look interesting to me.WoW is finally dead to me Looking forward to SW TOR & GW2 though. Even Tera for giggles.

I remember when wow had only 4-6 mil subs... Then, with tbc and wotlk it bursttttt in a moment to 11 mil subs. Then, months later, even year or two, it was max 12,5 mil... Now, they've lost almost 1 mil subs in such a short time... It may look to you this is nothing special of a loss, but trust me, it is a big deal. In the next 6 months / 1 year, i assume wow will have under 10 mil subs.

I agree that every type of gamer is quitting, they're just bored with it all. Especially for me the game isn't like it used to be (vanilla). I actually preferred it back then even with less features, but I'm one of the few, Blizzard changes for the majority (or so it seems).

    10.3 mil / 11.1 mil x 100% = 92.79%

So blizz has managed to keep over 90% of its subs which is great for a game that been there for 7 years now

also the other 7.21% is bout the number of people that also bich and QQ about everything...hmmm....lol

And for the most subscribers - that internet farm game in china has more than 25 milions active players EVERY DAY... just google it and youll see...

Yes, although I see WoW on the decline from now on, although another gain for MoP. After SW TOR & GW2 it will decline a bit more as well.

I know for a fact no MMO will ever keep my interest as long as WoW did though (5 years), although I think SW TOR will definitely keep my interest more than any MMO to date with the exception of WoW. Also, GW2 is F2P so I think some gamers will play a sub based MMO as well as GW2...I don't speak for all, I said 'some'.

They will beat their own sub loss record pretty soon with "pandaland meets pokemon" xpac. Wait and see.

It's going to be a Q4 loss with the release of SW:TOR and possibly GW2 only being combatted by 4.3, but a gain on Q2 2012 because of MoP.
