WoW Lost 800k Subscribers, down to 10.3M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 800,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 300k subscribers announced last quarter and 600k loss from the quarter before that. This brings us to 1.7 million subscribers lost in the last 3 quarters. Some things they made note of on the call:

  • Most of the subscriptions were lost in China.
  • There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December.
  • The decreased profit came from all of the games in development and no launches occurring.
  • There will be at least two major releases next year.

"everything has become so basic, so dumbed down."
    What what was that?

"Wah wah wah my ears are popping and there's no way to console me Wah! Maybe I'm teething, Maybe I'm hungry, who knows? I'm a baby! "
    Sorry thats all I heard.

Good riddance. Can only cross my fingers they "dumb things down"/aka push out more absolute awesome and get rid of another 9% worth of whining feet dragging foot stomping complainers.

Still dont get it. Unsub. Go away why stick around? Why even think about wow or how its doing? Why do you care? Go play some other game.
I quit wow back in vanilla, was terrible. Know what I didnt do for years? Hang around on forums and troll people still enjoying it. I left, let it mend came back, know what? Best thing ever this is so much better this is nuts. This game was a steaming pile of crap and they actually polished off into years of content for me and everyone who came back with me.
You unsub and your here its to annoy someone else plain and simple, or to try to sway someone else's opinion who is still having a good time=trolling or misery loves company twist.
4.1 this 4.3 that. no raids not enough content my shoes hurt my feet waaaaaaaaaaaah daddy carry me waaaaaaaah o m g .

I just want to make 1 thing clear. All the people that are complaining here about wow and are saying that it is dying etc. are people that have quitted the game but still care much for it. I too have quit the game a couple of months ago and I too still care much for it. I do not agree with the path Blizzard has taken so I chose to quit since I had no sence of fun in it anymore. What I'm trying to say is that there are a lot of people still on the forums simply because they still care for the game and hope it is going to get better. They try to flame the game in order to get Blizzards attention. I hope it's working because I would like to return to WoW which was my home for 5 years, but with the announcement of MoP I fear for the worst.

They lose subs simply because the game is not as fun as it used to be.

How many times is there going to be an excuse for blizz losing subs, " well it's slow, the sky is blue, a penguin in antartica dies, so our subs are effected" No this game is garbage now. This game is a washed down version of what it used to be, everything has become so basic, so dumbed down.
    +1

Fanboys will be fanboys... the same ones posting months ago about how the 300k was no biggie and didn't mean anything, posted the same crap when they lost 600k more 3 months later... now they have lost another 800k and they spout the same stuff.... the misplaced loyalty would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

    1st quarter: -300k
    2nd quarter: -600k
    3rd quarter: -800k

Not sure how else you can look at that... the trend is not only do they continue to loose subs but that number is growing exponentially every quarter.

Can anyone see the relation between those facts? He is a cancer. There should be a law to keep himself 30 feet away from any videogame company.
Thank god, i thought i was alone here. Yes he needs to get out of the gaming industry. Why the hell did they keep promoting him? They should have fired him and blacklisted him from all gaming companies. Everything he touches turns to shit.

That was practically a Warlock Q and A today. Not a single question answered for Arms warriors; and the other war answers were obvious shit that didnt need to be said. I guess when you have a dev making your class overpowered and keeping it there you get answers to your questions since that dev will actually go about making your class better. I hope WoW loses 5 million more subs next quarter so these biased morons are fired and they can get some people in who actually give a shit about class balance, and not just pointless dev talks and playing favorites.

I am also glad to know more people know about the issue. It seems though that only the people playing the game since the beggining are aware of the disease named tom chilton.
The moment he took the rank of lead developer I knew things would go downhill fast. And that was what happened. If people dont like Ghostcrawler, they should remember it was Kalgan (tom chilton) that put him doing class balance. Chilton is the one to be blaimed for the issues with the game right now.

I think the only game that would even get close to that is the sims, sad as it is

    ---------- Post added 2011-11-09 at 10:19 AM ----------

Just as a comparison to how well wow is still doing:

    http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

The top game for concurrent users on steam at the moment is COD3 with a peak of 66000 concurrent users playing at the same time. This is a game that is not even very old...

    Hows this http://www.mmocrunch.com/2011/10/30/...counts-banned/

9.2 million accounts banned 7 million paying acounts not counting all the other playing for free. I wish wow would ban all their botters that would prob be around 2 million if not more and wow would lose more than that i bet if they had the BALLZ to ban like runescape.

You have not done your research and should not be talking until you do so. Most of the people that quit, quit because the pandas LITERALLY look like they were copy and pasted from Kung Fu Panda. Anyone who disagrees either has no eyeballs or is blinded by the sheer fact that they're having their two favorite things put into a single game. I have never seen a single panda in WoW for one. And for two, the "lore behind them" and the course of this new expansion is boring and does not interest a lot of people. I for one quit because I do not find Asian culture interesting at all. I do not enjoy seeing fat pandas with their fat shaking while running around on my screen. If the pandas looked more realistic (had a savage looking face or you could see their ruffled hair) and we weren't playing in Kung Fu Panda, I would more than likely continue playing. I would not be surprised if a lot of people unsubscribed as soon as deathwing falls for their guild. They could've done the same theme of an expansion with Ogres and Ethereals or any other race that is already in the game that wasn't laughed at when it was first introduced. Like I said before Blizzcon, I think they're trying to split up the community and have the kids playing WoW while the adults play Diablo 3 since they're coming out around the same time. Before you open your mouth again, do your research and find out what is really going on behind the scenes.

P.S. Yes I still browse these forums even though I don't play WoW anymore. There's more than just WoW on these forums for one. And for two, I like to laugh at all the people who think MoP is going to be the best expansion yet.

As you know most games lose subscribers when they are 7 years old. That's an industry standard, 7 years old syndrome. There is nothing wrong about the game, it's the elitists that leave. Everything is fine, it's just that games that gain subscriptions for 6.5 years start losing it on the 7th. It's a fact, that's how things work.

Cool, what substantiating proof do you have or text book quotes?

Logic permits a loss of sustainability after several years. But show the model under which you are working.

Aside from the RPG and the one time you saw a Pandaren in WC3, tell me when have you ever heard of this race? Considering the VAST majority of people have never played the Warcraft RPG, I'm going to bet you don't even remember the Pandaren class in WC3 (I totally forgot about it, my brother in law, and a couple of my RL friends as well). I also have never read about them in any of the WoW novels that I read.

Pet battle mini-game and the Pandaren race is a CLEAR ploy to gain more subscriptions from the Asian markets and the teenager crowd. I didn't buy World of Warcraft to play pokemon and sure as hell didn't buy it to see a fat panda runnign around making silly Bruce Lee sounds while balancing on one leg preparing to perform a bicycle kick.

Take a look at the MoP trailer on Youtube, you will see a 50% divide in regards to 'thumbs up' and 'thumbs down'. Compare that to WotLK and Cata which have a 99.9999% 'thumbs up' rate.

It's obvious that MoP has already created a HUGE rift in the player base and I guarantee you that next quarter you will see much more than 800k subscriptions lost. Stop being a Blizzard zealot and try to get out of the state of denial you, and many others are currently in.

Q3 numbers would not include that information - Q3 is July, August, September. Bear in mind that there's usually a dip in playerbase over the summer.

Q4 - October, November, December, will have that info, and it'll look like a whole huge turnaround for them. XD

    have you heard of sarcasm

i'm trying to say that a sudden decline in subs, considerable increase in unhappy voices means something changed drastically with the game. the old age effect does not hit suddenly at 7 years, if anything it would come gradually.

what we experienced is a game that's 6 years old still growing and glowing, and on the 7th year it takes a huge blow. and people say it's because of the age.

such effects don't impact immediately, they happen gradually. which is not the case in WoW. And "derp the game is old naaoow" comments are ridiculous.

Yes not silly. It makes him look like an absolute tool.
He also says "I have never seen any pandas in wow"...
Warcraft 3? The basis for our entire mmo? OH GEE how the f did you miss that?
Throw in the fact that THEY LOST THESE NUMBERS BEFORE PANDAS WERE OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED.
Which if he himself had done any research in this very thread he would have seen that.
Makes him seem like number 1 asshat of this entire thread.

Your opinion on something that has nothing to do with you anymore means NOTHING.
    Uphold my stance.
Any post that says "I quit wow because" and posts in anything wow related should just be perma banned.
Your opinion is invalid go away.
