WoW Lost 800k Subscribers, down to 10.3M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 800,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 300k subscribers announced last quarter and 600k loss from the quarter before that. This brings us to 1.7 million subscribers lost in the last 3 quarters. Some things they made note of on the call:

  • Most of the subscriptions were lost in China.
  • There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December.
  • The decreased profit came from all of the games in development and no launches occurring.
  • There will be at least two major releases next year.

    Well WoW *could* end early, though I honestly doubt that. No real worries for Blizzard though. They should just take my money now for HotS and D3. I'm bored as fuck and there is little on the horizon that seems interesting to me. About the only other game I know of coming out that seems like it could be fun is Skyrim. I also feel so much better lawls from venting, fuck WoW is a fun game but I should not have to bend over backwards to have fun.

    Well, here in France it's more like 41,5$ for 24/7 internet so :/

    MoP will focus on the 12-20 year old players. Average age of WoW players is 28. So there is a 10 years younger bracket they have not fully monetized.

    they say it was in china, i call it bs. imo and i say IMO (may be wrong) the losses were from other countries except china, and blizz made all the one year payment diablo/beta MOP thing cause they already had these results in, and they knew they are gonna get f*** in the money department if they dont do smthin about it even if its just a litle loss, because lets face it they just cant aford to lose that one dollar, i mean who would pay for their new car they just bought this week? i sinceraly hope blizz shapes up and actualy puts smthin into wow worthwhile that most of the population can enjoy for long periods of time else more and more people are gonna keep quiting.

    yes, basic net is pretty cheap, even cheaper with packs with TV/Telephony/Net in one package.

    My provider rates:

    Cable;
    10EUR = 1024/512 Kbit/s
    15EUR = 6/1 Mbit/s
    20EUR = 13/1.5 Mbit/s
    30EUR = 20/2 Mbit/s
    40EUR = 28/2.5 Mbit/s
    50EUR = 50/5 Mbit/s
    60EUR = 120/10 Mbit/s

    Optics;
    20/20 Mbit/s= 30EUR
    50/50 Mbit/s = 40EUR
    100/100 Mbit/s = 50EUR

    Packs;
    150+ TV channels
    50/5 Mbit/s
    5 Telephone numbers
    Free calls in most local networks

    65EUR

    After the announcement of MoP, I want nothing more than WoW to burn to the ground. I welcome these numbers.

    Though I want Blizzard to survive, 'cause Diablo looks awesome... at least until they release the xpac for it in a couple years adding a new panda/kitten/other bullshit childish animal class that doesn't kill demons (because killing is wrong), but turns them into stuffed animals, and instead of looting gold (GREED IS WRONG) all recently teddy-bearified demons will drop candy as the new currency.

    anyone noticed their account got frozen and didn't take payments after they opted in for the year contract?

    At least 2 new major releases next year. So Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2: HTS. Mists in 2013 or late 2012? So we possibly have another 9-12 months of killing Deathwing. I'm going to be a sad panda

    Your reasoning is super cool, cause everyone knows Panda bears are held as pets by the majority of people. They are not really bears, they are more like plush animals you buy in a store. Or maybe it is, that they are one of the most ferocious bears to walk this planets surface, right next to polar bears.

    But lets ignore the fact, and enjoy the game with so ferocious gnome warriors who tank dragons 100 times the size of themselves. They are acceptable tho, cause they have pink pig tails - I see now.

    You people who want WoW to die are sick and shouldnt be browsing this website, you bring nothing but hate, on a lighter note im looking forward to MOP. Also yes WoW will continue to lose subs, its past its peak but it will survive and still reign as MMO king for years to come.

    Not surprised by the subscriber loss. You've got Cataclysm which was too much of a leap in difficulty from WotLK, the world economy is deep in the bucket... It's not just a bunch of people who ragequit.

    More likely D3 and MoP next year. SC2 expac will be pushed because it doesn't have any sustained revenue built into it. It's only profit on units moved. If WoW has a prayer MoP has to be next year and no later than July.

    Fail Blizzard lol. Funny to see suck a drop when 4.3 isn't even over. Half my guild is quitting after we've killed Deathwing.

    The Replica armor change made me think of something I'd totally forgotten about: Does the item's required level afftect transmogrification? I was totally looking forward to my level 1 bank alt finally running around in a full set of soulforge gear...but if the level req. kills it, I'll be sad :-(I know the level req. was added because of twinks...had they released them as they were, twinking would've gotten ridiculous. I have nothing against this change, unless it affects transmogrification!

    I am one of those investors. I do find it funny how people think 10.3 million people playing wow (and remember, they ONLY count those subscriptions with creditcards as active) as 'WoW is dying'. That is still well over 10 times as many people that have an active subscription on Rift and more than all the other Pay2Play mmo's out there combined, currently.
