WoW Lost 800k Subscribers, down to 10.3M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 800,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 300k subscribers announced last quarter and 600k loss from the quarter before that. This brings us to 1.7 million subscribers lost in the last 3 quarters. Some things they made note of on the call:

  • Most of the subscriptions were lost in China.
  • There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December.
  • The decreased profit came from all of the games in development and no launches occurring.
  • There will be at least two major releases next year.

Just saying. WoW's not in that bad of a state.
WoW still has the same amount of subscribers as around patch 2.3.3 or 2.4. No problems yet.

Well this sub drop isn't even funny. Lots of people at Blizz lost their jobs this last week because of layoffs. When you lose that much income, you start chopping heads off. Unfortunately it's not the heads at the top making the decisions. China is confusing though, they just got Cata.

You should stop taking rumours as facts...especially when Blues confirmed they're only rumours.

Not confusing for me - at least not if you follow the sterotype.

Blizz just launched a legal way for you to buy gold (Guardian Cub) - suddenly the chinese aren't interested anymore? :P

Seems the farmers are out of work...

Blizzard has about 100+ open positions. Check their jobs page, and stop spreading shit.

Blizz is not going to discuss the firing or not firing of any employees why should they it would be disrespectful and not in there interest.

My thoughts exactly. Less subscribers, and yet nothing was really lost.

Its a rough month for games in general with BF being released only a mere 2 weeks ago and MW3 going live today. Add Fifa12 to that list and a stale wow and subs are bound to drop. Alot of people will play that for a while, but they will return once 4.3 goes active and numbers will rise again. Its no biggy. And as some other people pointed out; numbers dropping is a good thing. Blizzard wants those subs back, thats more content in a faster pace as a result.

What use is your parents basement when WoW doesn't exist anymore right? What to do? Find a job. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WORK SCARY!!!
If you played wow for years just because you didnt have a job, or if you couldnt quit a game you'd been bored of until you got a job, you're an unfortunate loser.

China is unsubbing to WoW cause they don't like having pandas fighting in their game.

Pandas in WoW would probably increase Chinese subs.
