Statistics: Class Balance Follow Up
You asked for it, so here is the class balance at each of the different Valor Points achievement levels. Keep in mind that the higher we raise the bar, the smaller and nosier the sample becomes. The data from 50,000 Valor Points is unlikely to provide any statistically useful insight. Let me know if there are other things you would like to see in the future.

Sample Sizes
  • Any: 6,200,000
  • 5k: 1,800,000
  • 25k: 254,000
  • 50k: 1,200

Computers - Setup of the Month (by chaud)
Each month or every 2 months, depending on the hardware evolutions, the lovely chaud will work on a couple of hardware setups for those of you who are thinking of upgrading their computer!

Check back later this week for a list of Black Friday sales!

If you have been looking to purchase a new hard drive recently, you might have noticed that prices have tripled from what they were just a month or two ago. This is due to the recent floods in Thailand, which affected all of the major hard drive manufacturers and their suppliers. It is going to be 6-12 months before prices come back down closer to their previous levels, as some of the factories still have several feet of water inside.

Now is a good time to buy a SSD, as the next generation is a good while away and the current prices are fairly flat. AMD's Bulldozer arrived to universally negative reviews, citing excessive power usage and heat output and very poor single threaded performance. They are working on another stepping which may help the problem slightly, but don't expect any significantly improvements on the design until the middle of 2012 with the arrival of Piledriver. New AMD GPUs are rumored to be coming in Q1 2012 if you are thinking about upgrading.

Make sure to keep your AMD and Nvidia drivers up to date.

Don't hesitate to post any feedback in the comments of that news post, and don't forget to visit the Computer Forum for any extra questions!

I don't know what some people do during bossfights but I'm certainly not looking at how pretty or unique a bossmodel is.
So Deathwing chooses a Tauren to fight for him. And everyone expect him to be a Taurus Epicus? DW is also digging in that faceless stuff. So ofcourse there are more like Zon'ozzz and Yor'sahj.

Look at yourself, your friends, parents, family etc. You all have the same 'model'. God/evolution (or whatever you believe in) you so lazy!

Thanks for the Dragon Soul Raid boss guide. How about the three 5-man dungeons? Hope there's a guide too

Thank you for the great survey on class representation, in various levels of character involvement in the game. Rogues will get improved now. Still rogues and locks are so few. Used to be dark but ultra good dps. Now they re less dark, but also less of dps kings. No wonder that they vanshed/got banished from wow.

If I could pay money for items, levels and anything else. I would come back to WoW.I would HAPPILY put down say $5 for a level.

    Boub,

It's of my opinion that you should stop letting people who know minor things about computers pick the Narwhal and Unicorn setup's. They are not offering the best parts, and with the amount of casual gamers who read mmo champ, they may be made to believe that they are buying the best on the market. Specifically, I want to call out the PSU that is being recommended. While the Corsair has some good power supplies, they are not Gold or Platinum standard, and are just basic "certified" PSU's. The benefit of buying Gold\Plat PSU's is that eventually, you make up the money over time due to the considerable amount of power saving it does.

@Archidamos and maybe someone else; Yes, there are not so many rogues and warlocks around nowadays, but you also have to remember that in, lets say a guild focusing on 10-man raids, there will usually only be one of the pure dps classes while there's a higher chance there's two paladins, druids and maybe even priests, etc - so I'd say it is "natural" that there are less people playing classes such as rogue and warlock as their main, and thus less of those classes will have a high amount of valor points.

Turn off hyper threading and see your wow fps jump why? because wow can only use 2 cores weather they are physical or threaded. Meaning wow will use 1 physical core at 50% and one theoretical core at 50% when you turn off hyper threading wow will use 2 physical cores at 100%. Unfortunately that is how wow is programmed atm
It is a $600 CPU that is a waste for 99.99% of people. It will not be included until there is a cheaper version.

Since this expansion seems to slowly come to an end one thing is worth mentioning:

    Amount of bosses:

    TBC: 11(Kara)+6(ZA)+2(Gruul)+1(Mag)+4(TK)+6(SSC)+5(MH)+9(BT)+6(SWP) = 50 bosses
    WotLK: 15(Naxx)+1(OS)+1(EoE)+14(Uldu)+5(ToC)+1(Ony)+12(ICC)+1(RS) = 50 bosses + 4(VoA)
    Cata: (4)5(BoT)+6(BWD)+2(Tot4W)+7(FL)+8(Dragon Soul) = 28+2(BH)

Anyone else feels being screwed ?
I find disturbing not only number of the encounters but also or maybe in the first pleace, the poor design of encounters. TBH, can't remember being bored in TBC, a little in WotLK, but i'm really fed up with Cata ...

Pretty much this; TBC has both quality and quantity when it came to the raids. With Cata, you'd think they'd at least have quality, if not quantity; but alas, we've seen neither. Bring on MoP I say; if only to forget this expansion ever happened.

Difference between Cata bosses and BC? Cata bosses have more than 2 mechanics.

If ur sane person I'd say boss mechanics matter 99.9...% boss model in other hand.. it doesnt really matter that much.

Something else worth mentioning is that Blizzard is trying to cut the life cycle of the expansions by 6 months, so there isn't as much time to squeeze more bosss in. Also as others have noted, the mechanics of the fights now are far more complex then they were in BC, which requires not only more development time, but more testing time as well. So boring mechanics, or more bosses? Often in life you find that there will be trade-offs, where you have to give a little to get.

Not sure about the quality part. Also, this expansion is coming to an end almost 6-7 months faster than BC, so wouldn't there naturally be less content?

I can appreciate everything computer based and while I know how much time and effort it is to spec out certain builds etc, why are all of the links to amazon.com and not newegg? I prefer the feedback and the lower prices on newegg.

15(Naxx) and Ony were not new bosses. Felt more like Blizz didn't had money for new bosses and just took already existant. Not much modifications were made in Naxx to consider it new content.

Anyone else notice....The sample size for 50k+ valor points was only 1,200 people out of 6 million for any valor.Already 4,400+ people on MMO champ have claimed to have earned more than 50k valorDo the math. Either some people are lying or think they are far more hardcore that they really are.

The Conclave, Alakir, Alysrazor and Rhyolith encounters are more interesting than a lot of the TBC bosses. Don't know if you've done Ragnaros heroic and Sinestra... but it's far more interesting than most of the TBC end bosses. Nefarian (normal and heroic) is imo about the same as Lady Vashj. Cho'gall is meh.

I'm sorry to bring it up again, but it's all nostalgia (but I agree some TBC bosses were very epic). Also, don't praise MoP as the savior of WoW. You might get disappointed (same happened with cata during wotlk).

I hope those charts are yet another proof that druids and paladins are an abomination with current game design. All classes should be able to dps, tank and heal. This aint Vanilla anymore. Blizzard, do it!
