Statistics: Dragon Soul and Firelands
Patch 4.2 brought us Firelands over six months ago, and in that time roughly 12% of our sample of level 85 characters completed Normal difficulty Firelands. Patch 4.3 was released just one and a half months ago, during the holiday, and already 30% of the sample has killed Deathwing in any difficulty while only 4% has killed Deathwing on Normal or Heroic.

Keep in mind this sample includes many alt characters and many players have multiple characters, so there is no way to know for sure if more people are raiding. However, we do know that more characters are raiding now than raided during Firelands.

This time around, the overall sample is around 6 million characters and the active character sample is around 4.4 million. If you are interested in these type of statistics or want to see other information, let us know in the comments!

First we take a look at the overall population, including every level 85 character that has been active since Patch 4.3 went live. Only 4% of the population managed to do Normal difficulty Dragon Soul so far, and 34% completed it on LFR or higher difficulty.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Normal difficulty Deathwing achievement. The holiday caused a slight slowdown in the past few weeks, but people started earning it constantly on the first week.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Raid Finder or greater difficulty Deathwing achievement. You can see the weekly growth starts out high and is now rapidly decreasing, as everyone and their alts are have easily completed the raid.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Normal difficulty Firelands completion achievement. You can see where the Hotfix took effect and greatly increased the amount of kills, which are now leveling off as players don't have a reason to go back.

Now we narrow our sample to just characters who have killed Deathwing on Raid Finder or greater difficulty. For this sample, 13% of characters have done it on Normal or Heroic difficulty, and 87% of characters did it on Raid Finder difficulty.

Yes. I can confirm that we are fixing that issue in 4.3.2.

You will see the note on it in the next update to the 4.3.2 PTR patch notes. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

WoW No Longer Compatible with Windows 2000
In preparation for the upcoming release of Mists of Pandaria, updates to World of Warcraft will no longer support Microsoft Windows 2000. Microsoft ceased support for this version of their operating system in 2010. Players still using Windows 2000 are encouraged to upgrade prior to the release of Mists of Pandaria. They should have done a statistic on accounts instead of characters, I have 9 lvl 85's and only two of them have done LFR DS.

And all but maybe one should count as active, not sure what they count as active tho. But I play them all from time to time.

Well, that's the sound of the LFR being a resounding success

The lack of any other better game to play - I must underline this statemant ! There is still no other Game that have so much Content, great Community and Support than World of Warcraft. In my opinion the game is very balanced, but tends to become more and more popular.

Shows how few people are actually playing wow tbh. 1.2 million -characters- completed LFR. You complete LFR by joining it basically. A lot less than a million completed it if you deduct all the alts. Pretty low for a once '12 million players' mmo.

Because every single person who plays WoW is level 85, has the gear level required to join the LFR and is interested in doing so, right? Personally I'm level 85 and have the gear level, I just haven't gotten around to it yet because I've been busy with other aspects of the game since 4.3. Really, this argument is completely backwards. The simple fact that so many people have completed the LFR compared to how many used to complete normalmode raids means that it did exactly what it set out to do and thus is a resounding success.

Surprised to see that the poll assumes that every visitor still plays wow.

WoW was never ever 12 million players. It was 12 million Subscriptions™. 6 million+ of which were in Asia, about 3-4 million in EU and about 2 million in NA. Count in the 20% drop in subs since Cataclysm released and you only have a ~1.4 million active Subscriptions in NA right now.

Only a matter of time since to me it feels like Blizz has just plain stopped trying since the Lich King died.

I know a few who havent done LFR or wouldnt have done LFR if i didnt ask them to join me to kill some time or even refuse to do it. Some people wants to kill DW first on normal to have the epic feel of killing the boss normally without faceroll and i dont blame them as LFR is truly a faceroll and fun to kill some time with guildies.

If you have not done Raid Finder yet, you really should. It is really fun, I do it on three characters every week. Love it.

A lot of people still find *and will contunue to find* LFR a challenge. Many people will be having their first ever raiding experience via LFR. I am glad jerks like you stay away from LFR, with your social ineptitude and impatience.

Instead of hating on LFR being so easy, try better to exercise your tolerance and appreciate that LFR is for players beneath your godly (sic) epic raiding experience; LFR represents the first 'M' of MMO, massively, in that it enables (better than ever) the majority to gain raiding experience. Now you can take it or leave it; treat it as a tool for welfare epics and help others whom could benefit from your experience, or run Normals and Heroic DS.

Only 34% of level 85 completed LFR or higher difficulty? o_O That's an unexpected result considering you can get a iLvL high enough to get in in a week or two.

In my server, the last week several top guilds have just disbanded and their most skill players quit game. My guild also has lost several players and probably disband and quit game because there are no posibility to recruit more people (at least good ones). It's sad

I agree that LFR was a resound success for blizzard. Success in that their goal was reached (and then some). What annoys me it that that goal has in effect lessered my enjoyment of the game. LFR has made pug-raids and guild-alt raids rare-er, which combined with the 10-25raid ID lock means less opportunity to raid current content for me.

LFR is (usually) fun, but it's not raiding any more than Rebecca Black is a pop singer.
    And this

For me LFR was a good reason to to back to long forgotten alts. Got my resto druid in DS this week and I'm now working on level 85 with a rogue which sat at level 16 for 5 years.

It seems the charts indicate that normal DS is easier than normal firelands for the first month. Quite a large grain of salt however would be needed for LFR DS as it has a much higher chance of players bringing in more of their alts. Yes there are those who do not want to run LFR though would that really balance out the many altohalics and other alts that players have leveled up to deal with the accelerated rate of content burn in Cata? Along with LFR being designed for those who havent raided before it shows that possibly not even half of the population wants to even raid, whats scewing this data though is the inactive accounts that are viewable on the armory still.

What I would like to see is a comparison of those who made it about three to four bosses in FL and DS which is about where PuGs was at the time and than the second to the last boss lots of PuGs and even a number of guilds got stuck at for a long time, particularly before the nerf. The earlier firelands charts did show a large discrepancy between the Rag kills and partial clears which shows that there is a larger portion of those who do raid yet havent been able to beat the last boss. I would like to see the comparison of those who have stepped into Firelands normal to those who have stepped into DS normal while not killing Rag or DW.

Once again I'm quite surprised by how few people consider PvP as a major factor in the game.

i cant understand how people continue to play wow for his pvp .-. searching balanced pvp since tbc i think is trolling btw if swto has more ppl online should be a reason.

swtor is pretty fun, IF u play for real lore, where u can make a little difference on the story in galaxy, thats what u cant do in wow, in every expansion..
