WoW Stable at 10.2 Million Subscribers
Activision Blizzard's press release states that World of Warcraft is still at 10.2 million subscribers as of 3/31/12. This is the same amount of subscribers from Q4 2011. A few other interesting points:

  • Battle.Net has 10 million users.
  • 1.2 million people bought the Annual Pass.
  • 2 million people played the Diablo 3 open beta.
  • Pre-orders for Diablo 3 have set a new record for Blizzard. This number includes units pre-ordered as part of the Annual Pass promotion, as well as retail and digital pre-orders.
  • Blizzard renewed their license with NetEase for the distribution of World of Warcraft in mainland China, and it will continue for an additional three years following the expiration of the current license agreement.

GW2? It doesn't have a subscription fee, people still can play WoW, or even both. Seeing it as a direct threat is silly.
Oh I totally agree, I will be subcribed to wow still, but you can't deny Blizzard is losing it's touch.

This is why they have 3 levels of difficulty on the raids. Me personally I don't see any point to the Normal or Hard. I am not looking for some challenge in a game I play to relax. I am looking to relax. I get that on LFR.

The way I see it Guild wars 2 will have a big impact on the mmorpg genre.
2 million people raid. So only those 2 million are concerned with the length of a raid.

    1.2 million took the AP

So I guess we know the core base that will play WOW no matter what, 7 Million

Seriously, I trust my 2 brothers more than random people on this one.

I have very high standards, I'm also realistic and won't bark up the wrong tree when I want something.
You do not have high standards. I just realized, why am I trying to explain opinion to a clouded fanboy?

    Good day.

    1. That'd mean that MoP beta would be the longest lasting beta to date.
    2. They've stated time and again that they will get expansions out faster, they won't let there be another ICC.
    3. We're ways into the beta now.

GW2 will not have a big impact on the mmorpg genre, it will just be another game that some people love, others don't care about. Rift was said to be the next big thing, SWTOR as well, Tera is right now, GW2 has been hailed as the future of mmorpg and yet far from everyone coming from the BWE are smittened. GW2 is a nice game, if they optimize it properly it'll be even better, but it competes on another level and perhaps even fills another niche. No doubt it'll be THE game to a ton of people, but what's to say that THE game for them used to be another mmorpg even?

I would wait until GW2 is at least 1 year old before I would say that it had a big impact on anything really.

I do, and you're not explaining an opinion, you're trying to enforce it . Otherwise you wouldn't storm off in a rage after having used Ad hominem argumentation AND trying to tell a stranger what he/she wants and not.

Also you need to be a boy to be a fanboy. Good day!

You still have to agree to play WoW to do the SoR. If you hate WoW, you'd just cancel all over again before paying that fee. This is because people like where we're headed.

And I've rarely felt so satisfied.

Game is not stable based on live servers. It is based on things that have NOTHING to do with what is going on ingame and that is a disgrace for any game. It shows how bad things are at BLizzard when they have to give out stuff and wave carrots to keep ppl paying for a game that will be out of fresh content for 8-12 months.

I was specifically talkin bout heroic encounters. But good for you, I like to play games for a challenge, if I wanna relax.... Then I'll go fuckin relax far away from a computer, jesus you people are boring.

I find most of the announced changes quite refreshing, for some of those I've been waiting for quite a while. It's actually enough for me to subscribe again.

I thought this at first as well and was skeptical. read the whole article and figures and you'll find that WoW has 10.2M subscriptions. 200K + of them are people who have multiple games on the same battlenet account.

I deny it. My 2 brothers, both with this game since the first day of release, denies it and they oughta know.

Wether or not the game is bad or Blizzard's losing their touch, is subjective.

You got to be joking. It childish and stupid from start to finish. Zero innovation in questing. Zero innovation in gameplay. There is NOTHING new when it comes to the core of WOW in MOP. It is horrendously bad on so many fronts.

    yo brothers don't know shiiiit.

Everything about this thread is subjective, other then the fact blizzard hasn't gained any subs even when they threw free expansions, game time, and level 80s at us.
  1. Vinho's Avatar
I bet we will see an increase in subs the closer we get to MoP release date

Jesus you are really angry. Seriously, this explains your attitude. I too play games for fun and relaxation, and within that comes challenge whilst having fun. If I want ONLY challenge, then I get that away from the computer in the form of sports, competitions (dog sports) and work/studies.
