Legion Professions

UI Changes

Legion updated the professions UI to make it easier to use and provider more information.
The profession UI now usually tells you where to get recipes that you haven't learned yet.

Crafting

You can start crafting Legion recipes with skill level 1 in a profession.
There is no limit on the number of crafted pieces you can equip.
Legion recipes currently have three ranks, with each rank crafting the target item using less materials or providing more of the crafted item.
Gathering professions also have three ranks of their perk. For example, miners have perks that allow them to find more from a node or rare materials in a node.

Quests

Each profession has quests that help to add story and flavor to the profession.
There are profession world quests that require you to have skill level 100 in that profession to be able to see them.
Many profession patterns are learned from non-repeatable quests. You can re-learn these patterns after switching professions with a book sold by vendors for 1000.

Gathering

Multiple people can gather from the same node for a few seconds, so no more stealing nodes.
Skinning doesn't work like this. It has always been a little different, as you can make your own nodes and you can gather from nodes other people created.

Obliterum

Obliterum is not Bind on Pickup.
Obliterum (and 2 x Blood of Sargeras) is used to upgrade the item level of crafted items.
Obliterum is created by destroying crafted Legion items.
Items give a number of Obliterum Ash based on the specific item.
You can unlock the Dalaran forge needed to make Obliterum starting with the quest Fire!, a cart that is on fire in the professions area of Dalaran.
Crafted relics can be turned into Obliterum, pretty much anything crafted can, including flasks and enchants.
Crafted relics cannot be upgraded, as Obliterum is used for upgrading armor.

Blood of Sargeras

Blood of Sargeras is needed to craft many higher end items, as well as upgrade the item level of crafted items.
Gatherers can find Blood of Sargeras in nodes out in the world.
Crafters will have world quests that are more likely to give them Blood.
Dungeon bosses will drop Blood of Sargeras.
Enchanters have a chance to get Blood of Sargeras when disenchanting items.
Blood of Sargeras can be found in some treasures.
The Boon of the Bloodhunter shoulder enchant will also help to gather more Blood of Sargeras.
The Bloodfishing Fishing Artifact trait allows you to fish up Blood of Sargeras.

Alchemy

Alchemists start with the Get Your Mix On quest
Crafting Spirit Cauldron requires skill level 800.
Boon of the Harvester is useful, as it can provide additional herbs.
The Alchemist Stone trinket (Infernal Alchemist Stone) has three ranks.
Legion Wild Transmutes have a chance to give you a Transmutagen, which is needed for Transmute: Blood of Sargeras and Transmute: Meat to Pet.

Archaeology

Dig sites aren't as big as they have been in previous expansions.
There is now visual feedback when you are standing on top of the item.
No more surveying with the green light many times, just run around near your current location once you hit green.
There are less random projects per race in Legion. If you just want to do all of the solves, it will be much faster than it has been in the past.
Rare solves aren't randomly given to you in Legion. Instead they are part of an ongoing story quest.
Every two weeks you will see a quest appear from your Archaeology trainer in Dalaran, sending you off into the world to complete a quest line that rewards what would have been the rare solve.
Spirit of Eche'ro is a rare solve.
Completing eight rare solves rewards This Side Up and unlocks one of the Artifact appearances.

Blacksmithing

Blacksmiths start with Strange New Ores
The Leystone and Demonsteel sets are new in Legion.
Leystone Hoofplates and Demonsteel Stirrups are handy crafts that give you mount speed and let you interact while mounted.
Crafting the Blacksmithing Mount requires skill level 800, unlike most other crafts.
Boon of the Salvager is helpful, as it provides additional ore.

Cooking

Chefs start with Too Many Cooks. Nomi has returned!
You should be able to get all 6 recipes for A Good Recipe List by questing through the Legion zones.
Once the kitchen is unlocked, Nomi will allow you to place work orders that convert meat or fish into Badly Burnt Food and occasionally recipes.
Crispy Bacon is handy for extending the buff from other foods.
Boon of the Harvester or Boon of the Butcher is useful for extra fish and meat.

Enchanting

Enchanters start with Some Enchanted Evening
Legion added many different neck enchants.
Enchanters can make Tomes of Illusion that provide a set of weapon enchant appearances. These require a specific level of enchanting.
There are some handy enchants to speed up gathering.
Boon of the Manaseeker can provide extra enchanting reagents.
Enchanters can make the Leylight Brazier toy.
Enchanters can make three different pets.

Engineering

Engineers start with Aww Scrap!
Mecha-Bond Imprint Matrix allows hunters to tame mechanical pets.
Engineers will need to make Reaves Battery to summon their new helper.
There are many different modules for Reaves, allowing him to help you in combat, repair, resurrect, provide a teleport, and other fun things.
There are new goggles that can be crafted.
There are other helpful items like the Failure Detection Pylon that can be crafted.
Trigger is an Engineering pet.
Boon of the Salvager is helpful, as it provides additional ore.

First Aid

New bandages: Silkweave Splint, Silvery Salve, and Silkweave Bandage
You can heal wounded NPCs in the world with skills like Treat Burns. These quests generally give some Order Resources and First Aid skill.

The Fishing Artifact is meant for people that are really into fishing, so it requires some effort.
There are new coins to fish out of the Dalaran fountain.
The Conjurer Margoss faction rewards Brinedeep Bottom-Feeder, Sting Ray Pup, and some bobbers. Drowned Mana is needed to purchase these items.

Herbalism

Each higher rank of gathering for a herb type has a special perk. More materials, rare materials, mounting faster, and more perks.
Boon of the Harvester is useful, as it can provide additional herbs.

Inscription

Scribes start with Sign This.
Scribes craft the reagent needed to swap talents outside of a rest area.
While major glyphs are gone, scribes can still craft minor glyphs, including lots of new ones!
Scribes can also make Vantus Runes for each boss in Legion.
Scribes can craft Song Scrolls for the Sonic Environment Enhancer.
New Darkmoon cards were added.
There are also a few toys and a trinket that can be crafted.
Boon of the Harvester is useful, as it can provide additional herbs.

Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafters start with Facet-nating Friends.
Jewelcrafters can make +200 stat gems, unique equipped. There are also the normal rare and uncommon gems.
The JewelCraft toy allows you to play Bejeweled!
Mass prospecting is in!
There are item level 815 neck items with a unique effect for each class.
There are item level 815 rings.
Gem Chips are a flavor item, used for one craft and are otherwise something to vendor.
The color of the Gem Chip gives you information about the next color of the gem you will prospect, so you can prospect cheap stuff until you get the color you want, then swap to more expensive ore.
Boon of the Gemfinder is helpful, as it provides additional gems.

Leatherworking

Leatherworkers start with Skin Deep.
The Leatherworking mount (Elderhorn Riding Harness) requires 800 skill to craft.
Leatherworkers can make multiple leather and mail armor sets.
There are multiple pet related toys to craft, as well as Stonehide Leather Barding, which keeps you from being dazed.

Mining

Each higher rank of mining gives a chance to find more of the material or rare materials.
Boon of the Salvager is helpful, as it provides additional ore.

Skinning

Each higher rank of skinning gives a chance to find more of the material or rare materials.
Boon of the Butcher is useful for extra skins.

Tailoring

Tailors start with Sew It Begins.
Tailors can craft Silkweave and Imbued Silkweave armor sets.
Humanoids and humanoid like demons drop cloth in Legion.
Tailors will get more cloth drops, even though there isn't something that visually tells you this.
No bigger crafted bags are being added in this expansion.
The new bag is 24 slots: Silkweave Satchel
Tailors can make clothes chests that temporarily allow raid members to change armor set appearances.
Enchant Shoulder - Boon of the Scavenger is helpful, as it provides additional cloth.
