All Races Available in Patch 5.0.4

This includes the enigmatic pandaren, who will become available for play when Mists of Pandaria is released on Tuesday, September 25. We want the entire World of Warcraft community to be able to embrace their inner goblin, blood elf, worgen, draenei, or pandaren from the moment they step foot into the world of Azeroth.

Now, the only hard part will be choosing a name. Who will you be next?

Just to be clear on the announcement, we're making it possible for people to create a character of any race, regardless of what expansions you've purchased. So if you only have the original game (which now has The Burning Crusade included), when patch 5.0.4 hits you'll be able to create goblin and worgen characters as well. And, once Mists of Pandaria is released, you'll be able to create pandaren characters, regardless of whether or not you own Mists of Pandaria.

So it says all races, what about though all classes? Just because Pandaren become available for play regardless if you have MoP or not, does this include the new monk class?
No, you'll need to upgrade your World of Warcraft license to Mists of Pandaria in order to unlock the monk class. The same is true for leveling from 85-90 and gaining access to the continent of Pandaria.

The 11th character slot only comes if you buy MoP, so September 25th will be the earliest you can access it.

Pandaren will be available to all players, but only after MoP releases on September 25th. All the other races are available to all players on August 28th. Until then, no Pandaren for you.

Does this mean on the 25th sept when MoP is released, if you haven't bought MoP you would roll a panda and be playing on the turtle panda starter zone? Or do we have to roll in the other starter zones?

You're not really a common name around here, but may I reserve this post to bring up again in about 6 months? I'm looking forward to seeing how opinions change once the MMO world gets their hands on GW2.

On topic, this is a very fun idea. Good for them.

I'm sure the 85-90 experience is just a small part of why someone would buy the expansion.

    >.< Ewww lol. On topic, this is awesome because it means my youngest son's account can still join us to play even though I couldn't quite get his copy of MoP yet (already got 3 coming on release).

That would be cool but will never happen. You can't have a Paladin eating it's victims.

I don't think that will work, because the pandas have new, high polygon models. Putting their hairstyles on the old models would look really weird.

MoP will have instanced cross-realm zones. It helps to populate low-pop zones, but it works the other way around too: makes crowded zones less populated

It is pretty good news for new starters. The buy in price is ridiculous if you want access to all races, cannot see why its not all classes I guess they think the monk will be that big a draw. The whole 85-90 content and new end game should be enough to sell the expansion on its own.

If Blizzard were really worried about GW2 I bet it would be all races/all classes as of 5.0

Interesting, I never would have thought they'd do something like this. Not that it affects most of us, but to new players, that's a very nice addition.
