2.7 Million copies of MoP sold, WoW passes 10M Subscribers
Blizzard just published the sales numbers for Mists of Pandaria and it looks like our favorite game is back over the 10M subscribers mark. For reference, the sales number for the previous expansions were:

  • The Burning Crusade - 2.4M First Day, 3.5M First Month
  • Wrath of the Lich King - 2.8M First Day, 4M First Month
  • Cataclysm - 3.3M First Day, 4.7M First Month

During the first week of launch, prior to the release in China on October 2, the expansion had already sold through approximately 2.7 million copies and the game’s global player base passed 10 million subscribers, with growth across all major regions.*

“With Mists of Pandaria, we set out to expand on the sense of fun and discovery that’s always been at the heart of World of Warcraft -- in addition to adding a huge variety of new content and features to the game,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “It’s been gratifying to see the results of all of the work we put into this expansion and to hear all of the positive feedback from players so far.”

The World of Warcraft development team is already hard at work on the first major post-launch content update. Further details, including features and release timing, will be provided in the weeks ahead.

Find it funny how still people believe (not including trolls) that thats a bad number.
Guess people just don't have a clue.
The start seems like its gonna be my favourite expansion since TBC, so now we just wait and see how fast they can bump the content out or will they once again fail us with slow patching.

I don't play WoW, yet I still come on this website. I don't play my Xbox, but I still like to keep updated on Xbox news.

    What's the problem?

But... all the hype convinced me that WoW will be dead next week! It can't be!

That is pretty normal. For example cataclysm sold about 4.7 millions copies in the first month while around that time the subscriptions peaked at around 12 millions.

Yes for children with no lives. No working adults can squeeze in 12 hours A WEEK.

Peak was in WotLK and started to decline around the time between ICC and Cata.

Ugh! But that's exactly the reason. It sold less than Cata because people don't trust Blizz enought in order to buy another expansion day 1. Do you really think everyone keep up with MoP vids and gameplay vids?

If MoP does better than Cata the next expansion will get more sells.

Well sure, but everyone was praising it so much, i would have thought all the positiveness of the WoW players would have landed a lot better.

Down below 8million within 6months, my prediction. Can't wait to quote this in six months time.

lol you misread what he said, 12 hours to level in total from 80 - 85.

Anyways it's because around 60% of the subs in is China which don't by expansions.

yeah, but it's not surprising because MoP got so much hate and Cata was just bad, many didn't even bother with MoP. But the cool thing is that they are now seeing the positive feedback and are coming back. I have 5 friends back from GW2 already. It's a great x-pac, and soon more people will notice. The numbers are fantastic, considering the hate and bad press. And this doesn't even include the chinese and korean players. I'm sure the numbers will be even better by the end of the month.

Everyone? You mean 2.7M people. Not everyone goes to WoW forums and fansites. Heck most people I've met in WoW don't even know what MMO-Champion is...

It sold less in a week than Cata did in a day and those 10M subs will surely drop when a lot of the people with the annual pass can cancel their sub.

Stating the amount of subs is so pointless it's crazy especially when thinking about friends I've got complaining about dead realms, makes you wonder how many of the subs are actually still playing...
