Battle.net Desktop Client
The new Battle.net desktop client has been tested internally for some time now. It appears that testing is nearly here, as the Battle.net support site has been updated with related help articles.

Currently only a Windows version has appeared for testing, but by the looks of the jobs page, a OS X version is in development as well. Unfortunately we are only able to see the offline mode for now, but there are a lot of features in the mockups.

Keep in mind this is not an official preview, and many, many, many things will change before release.

  • This replaces the launcher for all Blizzard games, and works similar to the current launchers, with background updates, repair tool, and more.
  • Chat with Battle.net friends across every Battle.net enabled game.
  • News - You can see all of the news from the various Battle.net game sites in the client.
  • Store - NYI?
  • Forums - NYI?
  • Profiles - NYI?

Too many companies trying to copy Steam..
Hopefuly you can still run the games without this client, unlike EA's Origin.

You already have to sign in each time to play each game so why not sign in once and be done.

Whats the difference signing in WoW or SC2 now than what they are making with the new client... I do not understand your logic...

Been waiting for a long time to be able to talk to my bnet friends without being in-game or without an active subscription.

Well, this might be the proverbial straw if I am forced to use this piece of shit launcher. More bloatware steam/origin type garbage.

Personally, i think this is a Blizzard Update, not a WoW update. "The big unannounced feature will have a cool impact on the game and is something they have been talking about for a long time." from this I read that the feature will be something to do with WoW itself and I am still thinking it will be an Item Journal - possiby including tabards. I dont really see that talking to bnet freinds cross game is a big feature, more of a convinient one.

No you have to think twice before you write what you think. It's Single Sign-On (SSO). Once logged into the launcher you just click 'Play WoW' or 'Play SC2' and you are in the game without logging into the specific game itself no more.

appearing offline is refering to invisible mode, not offline.

i guess the desktop client is the unannounced 5.4 feature

Not that that would be a surprise. Solution for faction imbalances on realms incoming by 2020, the problem exists only for several years so far.

have been waiting for that tool for about 3 years now ...
it would be nice if it really has a b.net chat attached to it, so you can check with your friends and see who's online before starting a game.

After Origin it was only a matter of time before this happened. Technology happens. As long as it is not the monumental EA failure, i'll be fine with it. The closer to steam it is, the happier i'll be.

Battle.net client has nothing to do with 5.4 / WoW, it's about all their games. Also it has already been announced before so no it's not the unannounced feature.

While the chat function is nice, it's going to suck rather much when we're at the point you need to run 5-10 clients just to play your favourite games.

This seems like the perfect place to implement a proper voice service so we no longer need teamspeak/mumble/vent. It exists outside of the game, so if the game crashes, you dont lose voice.

Why does it say in one of those Mockup pictures about the Desktop Battle.net "Add Game Time" for Starcraft II?...
Mockup or not, Starcraft II Should still be a F2P Game

You honestly think that something the battle.net team has been working on is going to be the secret thing the wow dev team was talking about? You must not know how these things work.
