  • New character models retain the iconic features, but refine them as necessary. The models also have a more consistent style.
  • Undead have bones sticking out, but they don't look great. The new version refined it. (They unveiled the progress on the Undead Male model)
  • The team looked at the existing model and decided what they wanted to maintain and what needed to be exaggerated.
  • They went 956 to 5,408 polygons on the Gnomes. 130 to 196 bones. Texture resolution was 2 to 5x higher depending on the area of the body.
  • The old Dwarf male has 1,160 polygons and was mirrored on both sides. The new model is 7,821 polygons and has higher texture resolutions. The face doesn't have to be symmetrical anymore.
  • Dwarf female is underway and has a basic model.
  • Tauren male is also underway and has a basic model done.
  • Facial hair is animated using bones.
  • Capes are now animated using bones to flow more naturally.
  • Gnome female pigtails are now animated.
  • Concept art helps to determine the feel of the zone, while Zone maps help to determine what is taking place in each part of the zone.
  • Vertex shading is used to make things look much nicer without having to create even more new textures.
  • Lighting is also a big part of adding atmosphere to zones.
  • The Iron Horde make several different tanks, but not a unique mailbox.
  • When it rains, the NPC working on trade skills will go inside and get out of the rain.
  • There are 572 candle models in game, with 42 belonging to the Kobolds.
  • Worgen and Goblin won't be getting new models right away. The team will take a look at those models after all of the other ones are done.
  • The female Troll model is in process right now.
  • The website will show off the new models and provide release date guidance as progress is made on the remaining ones.
  • Ear and hair clipping is a little bit better with the new models.

    I am REALLY happy with all the model updates so far! The undead look super cool there, tauren and dwarfs actually look hairy now, and dat fem gnome face. xD Love it!

    Holy purple guacamole that undead model is amazing. I am utterly impressed.
    They've done a splendid job in capturing the essence of the old models, yet boosting them to incredible new standards. That undead male though, sports a rather different look than its original, which is risky. However, they couldn't have done a better job in making a real 'undead' model.

    Whoah, worgen and goblins might get an update aswell. That's after all the classic and bc races are done though.

    And that's exactly my problem with them. They look creepy and in no way cool. I just don't know if I want to play such an undead. I like the models of the other races but as an undead I'm rather disappointed seing those pics. And seriously...the mouth of the male undead looks like it's some 80 year old grandmother. I just don't want to play a male undead with a female face(especially the last one with the black leather in the face...really...cut the face from the skull and you got a woman with yellow eyes)!

    *faint*...if they can improve on the female worgen + the movement and cast/melee animations of the worgen, I'mma be happy! Goblins are quite good but their eyes are a bit too dead compared to Pandaren and beyond.

    Lol'd...you must have a very different view on what "creepy" stands for. I can't say I recognize anything you described in your post. That undead male looks absolutely fantastic. I'm sure they'll get properly glowing eyes as well.

    Indeed! They specifically said they want to bring all the models up to Pandaren-level.

    I love the new models...so much more detail. But I hate the female gnome one. My gnome rogue will be going from looking a little fierce to plain dumb As I use that face with all my 6 gnomes this makes me feel quite strange. For the same reason I quit Daoc a when they changed everything. l was so afraid not to like the updated models but they did a good job ... except for the one l got used to for the last 8 years. The expreesions is just not right. Does not make me want to continue playing though the rest sounds awesome so far

    Well, I would assume that what they've showed is just one of several options for faces. Although I agree that some of the old female gnome faces look great and the new model is a bit weird in comparison.

    I never play Undead but they look so f*cking cool, I might actually consider playing one. Matter of taste I guess.

    and on the subject at hand : Wow, those new models. They all look awesome. I still don't get how people can be against new models and think it's a waste of time investing resources into them.
    Very curious about humans and night elves now.

    Love the new undead models. cant wait for them to go live.

    on a side note, michael jackson is now in the game and undeads dance has been replaced with the thriller zombie dance.

    I prefer my "black holes". I didn't sport a helmet up untill pandaria cause I liked the face that much. Not sure if I will EVER hide my helmet again if the face of my char should look like in those pictures...

    Ok, I guess I'll have to be the one to ask. But why is there a picture of hot dogs on a grill?

    New models are great etc etc.. I want to know why there is a pic of hot dogs on a grill.....

    gnome male missing a bit, maybe bigger eyes a bit dunno.
    but i like female gnomes they seem nice.
    tauren male so far really bad.
    dwarf & undead male pretty good.
    dwarf female something not right their eyer remind me of female pandas somehow.

    hope they wont mess up my female night elves!
