  • The Special Effects supervisor plays World of Warcraft and is level 90.
  • Marketing hasn't started yet, so there isn't a ton to reveal yet.
  • Jones liked the script, but it was very Alliance centric. He thought it would be better to make it about both sides and the original Warcraft.
  • Jones turned down other films because he was really passionate about working on Warcraft.
  • While working on Golden Compass, the special effects supervisor got up at 2 in the morning to do runs with his guild.
  • Real actors will be used for the Orcs.
  • Avatar meets Game of Thrones as far as complexity of visual effects with live action, advanced special effects, and motion capture on set.
  • There is a lot of Warcraft lore, so they had to pick a certain amount of the lore for this movie.
  • The team has to figure out which characters to shine the spotlight on.
  • There is concept art for Draenor, Dalaran, Ironforge, Stormwind
  • Making environments for the game has a lot of restrictions, but in the movie you can expand on the environment with less restriction and make it more grand / cinematic.
  • Many locations in the film will be on built sets, like the Lion's Pride Inn.
  • The most famous character in World of Warcraft is the actual world itself.
  • Wardrobe and Costume design is being done by someone that has worked on Avatar.
  • The team is looking at details as small as the bark on the trees in Elwynn Forest.
  • People who don't know the world and people who are hardcore players will both enjoy the film.
  • The story is Orcs vs Humans. Lothar and Durotan.
  • Durotan represents the highest ideal of the Orcs. He believes in his people and his future.
  • Both want to do the right thing for their people.
  • The games weren't the best way to tell this story originally, so the movie will be a great opportunity to tell the story in an even more epic way.
  • Someone has to win and someone has to lose, but everyone loses at least a little bit.
  • The style of this war movie will be similar to Gladiator, gritty.
  • WoW doesn't have scabbards, so where swords will go has to be worked out.
  • There are no plans for an art book for the movie, but it is a possibility.
  • Lots of the cast has been picked out.
  • The first movie has to be done right, then they can think about doing more.
  • The majority of the movie takes place in the Eastern Kingdoms.
  • The lore of this time doesn't have many female characters, but the producers are pushing for including some female characters.
  • We will see a preview sometime next year, maybe at Blizzcon.
  • Metzen would like to do a TV series one day. When they originally decided to do a movie, Game of Thrones didn't exist on TV yet, so most similar stories were told in movies. If everything goes well, maybe a studio will want to do a TV show.
  • The Lord of the Rings movies inspired Jones to want to do this movie. He wants to match or beat them at making an awesome movie.
  • Someone is working on the Orcish language for the movie.
  • The movie will be PG13, but the PG13 rating is shifting. Batman movies are PG13.

So how did Comic Con get a teaser if they said they didn't start filming yet or anything? How did they get a preview if they claim there isn't one yet?

A R-rated Warcraft movie would bomb so fucking hard.

PG-13 is perfect for this type of movie.

Wow, Jones sure comes across as ambitious. Match or beat LOTR? He must be joking, right? Moon was a good film, and source code was okay. He simply does not have the experience that Jackson had before undertaking such a monolithic enterprise like LoTR, though. Not to mention the miracle workers that were WETA and WETA digital.

I'm sure these guys know what it is they're doing, and seeing as it's all one big collab, there'll obviously be no shortage of knowledge or passion.... but yeah. Threw me off a bit with that statement.

you dont have to have him doing nothing...it foreshadows thrall in a way. and they might have durotan as the intro to the movie. stop thinking of ways to make a bad movie, think about ways they can make it good

"Someone is working on the Orcish language for the movie."

This is cool, just like Avatar where they created language for Na'vi.

They never said Lothar vs Durotan, he just mentioned these 2 names as some of the main cast.

If anything, the story will be shown from 2 view points.

They have already cast their actors. Filming starts January 2014.

It means they obviously care enough to want to make it good, and not just a quick buck...

What are you talking about? Source Code and Moon aren't on the level of Frighteners and Braindead? I was so weirded out when I heard Peter Jackson was going to make the LotR movies because I knew of him from weird low budget gore movies like Braindead and Bad Taste. What you're voicing is the least of my concerns.

Wait are you actually for real? You do realise that Peter Jackson had done just a few Gorefest B-Movies before LOTR right? How he even fucking convinced those studio execs (Thank fuck he did though) to let him do LOTR is insane.

Who knows what the movie is going to bring, perhaps it'll be another typical shitty Video Game movie, but honestly Duncan Jones is ok, he could quite possibly pull out a master piece like LOTR (Although I really do doubt it, LOTR was perfect & that's kinda hard to match).

Also to anyone talking about the whole "Comic-Con got a Teaser & Blizzcon didn't" ... Well that's because there's lots of Trailers that are specific to Comic-Con ... Why would they show it at Blizzcon if it was a specific agreement made in regards to the whole Comic-Con stuff to ONLY show the Teaser at Comic-Con? Who knows, maybe there was a Teaser, maybe there wasn't ... But why the fuck would they lie about?

Finally the whole "But this breaks lore" ... This is literally just people going, "M-Muh Lore!" It's a random, one-off movie... They are not ret-conning anything, this movie is not going to be any official cannon, this movie is not trying to change anything... They are merely taking interesting (at least to the writers) characters & throwing them into a story that works best for a Movie. That is all.

It was a "mood piece," in other words a test shoot to establish the look and feel of the movie, likely for the benefit of executives and producers. They explained that back when they showed it at Comic Con.

Filming doesn't start until January, so obviously they haven't shot any actual scenes from the script yet.

Comic Con does this exclusive shit all the time. They're most likely locked up in contract and can't legally release the teaer to the public.

Excuse me, Heavenly Creatures? He was the producer for that film, and for those other films too. Don't think Mr.Jones has so much as attempted tackling that sort of subject matter. But this is not the point. The point is that apart from producing and directing, Jackson had full hand in writing the screenplays.

No, but the people we know who are working on this have a pretty good track record.

Director: Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code)
Screenplay: Duncan Jones, Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond)
Cinematographer: Simon Duggan (The Great Gatsby)
Editor: Paul Hirsch (Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, 'nuff said)
VFX Supervisor: Mark G. Soper (Golden Compass, Life of Pi)

    It's certainly in good hands.
