So Long, and Thanks for All the Spectral Fish
Ghostcrawler confirmed the news on the official forums.

We just came off of a great BlizzCon. We had so many different games to talk about, and we were thrilled at the reception of Warlords of Draenor. It was great to meet or reconnect with so many of you. I love BlizzCon dearly, which makes it so hard to tell you that this will be my last one, or at least my last one up on stage. An opportunity has come my way, and I have made the very tough decision to move on from Blizzard.

I wanted to thank all of you for being a part of this grand quest. I have said a hundred times that having passionate gamers, including the angry ones, is a far better place to be than having a community that doesn’t care. You all care. Like us, you want the game to be the best that it can be. So I ask you to keep on providing your feedback. I promise (and I rarely promise!) that the developers care very much about what you have to say.

I’ll be out there, and I can’t imagine it will be that hard to find me.

Hugs,
Ghostcrawler

P.S. No, you can’t have a pony. Or a moose. Or a mantis shrimp. Or a tardigrade. Or a crab. Keep trying though.

P.P.S. I play a Holy Priest.

Maybe now the game will be balanced and they can reverse all the stupid decisions theyre making with WoD (squish, flying, gear). It is funny how he dropped what he plays though. I wonder where he is going, hopefully not to any other game I like.

That was just one from my own personal experience (yes I am a shadow priest). But the game was better before greg street f'd it over homogenizing everything.
you obviously don't remember class stacking in sun well then. 5 shaman heals and 10 locks and sun well was a breeze.

GC isn't the evil dictator responsible for all the things you dislike, he is one part of the whole development team, seriously quit pinning everything on him.

While he is just one part of the whole and the team will survive without him, IMHO he was a high functioning part, his depart is definitely a loss.

He is the LEAD of said team. Do you know what a lead developer does? I do. They have to make sure everyone is doing their job and they have to ok certain changes. So he is responsible for a good portion of the things wrong with this game. >.>

I really really REALLY hope whoever gets his job next royally fucks up everything in a quest to make classes feel more unique. Either that or chooses to really make classes more streamlined and people beg for the Ghost Crawler days again. Either way, Ghost Crawler wasn't that bad of a guy. Knowing he plays a holy priest makes me feel better too. The only poor decision he's ever made based on his main is the fact that he kept chakra in. Clearly he liked it while the rest of us didn't. Mages are just broken in terms of scaling period lol. They're too good.

So we should "bring the class not the player"?

    Most appropriate response, ever.
Maybe some day you will get a clue about life. Leave alone iterative game design and balance.

It probably won't be in this lifetime i guess.

He has stated it many times. Blizzard makes decisions by consensus, nothing goes live without the whole team agreeing on it. His role as lead is probably more like that of a coordinator who keeps track of various departments to make sure everything syncs up.

Blizzard isn't like say Apple, where things are driven by the vision of a few and everyone else falls in line.

Its already that way? My guild brought a warlock back in ToT during progression the the guy with three dogs boss because it made the fight so much easier. There is already tons of "bring the class not the player". Melee make things more difficulty. Dark Shamans with too many melee = gl!

OT: I hope he does well in his new job. Itll be interested to see what kind of things happen to WoW under the management of a new lead designer. If it will be better or worse has yet to be seen.

    Ding-dong, the witch is dead.

As much as I am happy to see him finally gone, the damage he has done to the game is too big. Six years of lazy, incompetent decision have left a huge dent, made the community toxic more than ever and left a deep sitting rot in the design core. The new guy would need to do a very hard and very consequential decisions, which none will do. Most probably it will be just a puppet under the direct control of producers and managers who put Ghostcrawler in charge and let him do his dirty work.

Yes, WoW community will one day look back at Ghostcrawler and miss him, as someone dying miss the days he had all his legs and arms broken, his skull shattered along a nice portion of diarrhea and fever, but was "alive".

I would argue those are exceptions that "slipped through the cracks" rather than being intentional.

In vanilla/BC it was worse. Want to raid? It's bring a Shaman for lust/hero or bust.

Thank you so, so much for your time and effort! I don't play anymore however thanks in part to Greg Street's efforts I was able to have years of fruitful, enjoyable gaming.

All the best to him and his family in his future endeavours. With a mind like his, anything is possible!

I don't want any of those things, anyway. I just want flight back. Can we have that? It's make us happier.

He is leaving Blizzard? Wow I might just play WoD then.

I suspect he foresaw the iceberg before the sinking of the titanic and is switching ships. Smart move.

Yeah. Like that time when pure DPS classes happened to be restricted to only one role having a huge disadvantage to all those hybrid classes... or wait a minute, it's actually how it is right now.
When he decided that every spec of hybrid classes should be "competitive" even to classes that has no choice of role he basically made pure DPS classes unimportant raid spot fillers because you want to have as much hybrids as possible to have more ways to get preferable types of DPS, tanking or healing for certain encounters.

Or should I mention his brilliant philosophy of raid designs when in normals and most of HCs tanks can slack alongside with healers but DPS are the ones under constant pressure because of "tightly tuned" DPS requirements.

So no. Not going to miss him.

Hopefully whoever takes over learns from this. GC was the most vocal, so he became the face and spokesperson for a lot of people. This also made him an easy target and the vitriol sent his way would've taken some thick skin to endure.

I personally didn't like him, but at least he left on his own terms and didn't do a Tseric.
